Notes: Ca2+-containing porous gelatin-siloxane hybrids were prepared using sol-gel process, post-gelation soaking, and freeze-drying. The porosity and pore size of the hybrids could be well controlled by the freezing temperature and the pH value of the soaking solution. The pore characteristics were related to the structure change during the soaking treatment. A bone-like apatite layer was able to form in the Ca2+-containing porous gelatin-siloxane hybrids upon soaking in a stimulated body fluid. The porous gelatin-siloxane hybrids could release gentamicin sulfate which isan antibiotic drug in bone chemotherapy. Thus, those hybrid materials are proposed to find application as novel bioactive and biodegradable scaffolds in bone tissue engineering

Notes: In this study, pure aluminum reinforced with interconnected galvanized iron mesh and Ni particulates was synthesized using an innovative disintegrated melt deposition technique followed by hot extrusion. Microstructural characterization of composite samples showed uniform distribution of Ni and Al-Ni based intermetallic particulates in the matrix material, good interfacial integrity of aluminum matrix with iron mesh and Ni particulates and the presence of minimal porosity. Results ofthermal mechanical analysis indicate a decrease in the average coefficient of thermal expansion of the aluminum matrix with the use of hybrid reinforcements. Mechanical characterization also revealed that the coupled use of galvanized iron mesh and Ni particulates lead to an improvement in the hardness, dynamic modulus, 0.2% yield strength and UTS but ductility was adversely affected. An attempt is made to correlate the use of hybrid reinforcements with the improved properties exhibitedby the synthesized composites

Notes: The organic-inorganic hybrid compounds have attracted much attention for theirinteresting structures and various properties. In present work, we concentrated on the band structures of the hybrid compound (C4H9NH3)2GeI4 and tried to find out the relations between the geometry structure and the properties. The hybrid’s primitive cell was large and including too many atoms, so it was difficult to have a direct and clear analysis on the band structure. The hybrids’ DOSand PDOS were analyzed instead, as it was another effective way to analyze the band structure of the hybrid especially when the band structure was complicated. The model of (C4H9NH3)2GeI4 was set up, and the program based on the first principle had been employed to calculate its band structure. The difference of iodine’s PDOS caused by structure was also discussed

Notes: Ceramics, especially nitrides, oxides and carbides, offer advantages over conventionaltribological mating elements. Such solids usually are very stable chemically. However, underfriction conditions they become quite reactive. It is even possible to say that the friction and wearbehavior of ceramics might be more sensitive to the environment than friction and wear behavior ofmetals. Considering the present trend towards the incorporation of these ceramics in tribologicalapplications, the importance of a more comprehensive understanding of the ceramic surface physicsand chemistry cannot be overestimated. The primary aim of this paper is to present somephysicochemical factors that may influence the wear process of ceramics and account for somespecific tribological findings related to lubrication of these materials from the view-point of a betterunderstanding of their tribochemistry. Model of ceramic reaction with water, implying the effect oftriboelectron emission process, leads to the generation of acidic and basic active sites. The model ismostly focused on silicon nitride tribochemistry. It accounts well for the formation of specificsilicon compounds from silicon nitride lubricated with water and alcohols. The model is based onthe emission process of low-energy electrons during friction with generation of positively chargedsites (Si+) and free radicals (N●). Interaction of the emitted low-energy electrons with water oralcohol molecules (HOH, ROH) produces negative HO‾ or RO‾ ions, respectively and hydrogenradicals (H●). The described model provides a better understanding of silicon nitride tribochemistrythan previous ones. The same is due to other ceramics

Notes: In tests presented in the paper the authors made use of M.M. Chruščov’s conceptof determining linear wear intensity Ih in model systems operating under constant load in which thecontact stresses decrease in the effect of wear. They elaborated the mathematical model bindingvertical approach of samples in four ball apparatus equipped with the three rollers – cone couplewith rollers wear trace dimension. The model was verified in the special experiment obtaining avery good convergence of results of calculations and the experiment

Notes: Lubrication and cooling of a high speed grinding process in the grinding machine as in amechatronic system using technological liquids are analyzed in this paper. It is shown that in thecase of high grinding speed, technological liquids undergo an aeration process and due to this theirphysical properties change. Reynolds equation, which estimates the aeration liquid, is derived. It isshown, that the application of such an equation is proper only in the finishing of grinding.Experimental research is also presented in the paper, which shows the influence of technologicalliquids to the temperature field of the grinding machine and to its automatic control

Notes: The paper’s work examines opportunities of diagnostics of vibroinsulated mechanismsbased on the measurement of mechanical vibration. Vibration insulation systems distort thediagnostic signal therefore direct diagnostics of vibration of vibroinsulated mechanisms isimpossible. The work’s objective is to analyse the influence of vibration insulation systems on thediagnostics of such mechanisms and to identify the kinds of parameters on which this influencedepends.A stand for tests is made for the achievement of this objective; by using the stand the vibration of amechanism can be simultaneously measured both directly and via the vibration insulation system
