Beschreibung: Chitin nanofibers are prepared from the exoskeletons of shrimp by a simple mechanical treatment after a series of purification steps. The nanofibers have fine nanofibers networks with a uniform width of approximately 10 nm. Grinders and highpressure water jet systems are effective for disintegrating chitin into nanofibers. Acidic conditions are the key factor to facilitate mechanical fibrillation. Ultrafine fibers were successfully fabricated chitosan and fish skinextracted gelatin via electrospinning (ES). Important ES parameters, such as concentration of aqueous acid and fish gelatin solutions, and electric field intensity were examined to investigate the effects on the morphology of the gelatin nanofibers. Due to the poor mechanical properties of the fish gelatin membranes, composite nanofibers made of fish gelatin and poly(L-lactide)(PLLA) were produced with a novel solution. The introduction of PLLA remarkably improved the mechanical properties of the gelatin membranes. With a combination of good biocompatibility and mechanical properties, fish gelatin/PLGA blending non-woven mats are considered to be very promising in fish fillet coating application.. in this study, we fabricated a novel nanofibers composed of fish collagen (FC) and polycaprolactone (PCL) blends by using the electrospinning method. Nanofibers were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and it was revealed that the diameter of nanofibers decreases as FC content was increased in the FC/PCL composite nanofibers. Several modifications to the chitin NF surface are achieved, including acetylation, deacetylation and maleylation. The results of this study revealed that: 1 –It is possible to produce Nanofibers from chitosan and fish gelatin. 2 – Covering and coating of processed fish by nanofibers are applicable and increasing the possibility of shell life for the processed fish. 3 – Nanofibers which have been produced from chitosan and fish gelation not only is environmentally friendly but also it will be eatable while has been covered for fish fillets. biocompatible chitosan and gelatin made from fish, fresh fish fillets do not have the ability to cover and packaging, but is edible and used.

Beschreibung: Quality grading and nutrition value determination of fish are nowadays necessary for aquatic processing. The present study was conducted to investigate a new, applied and cheap method of fillet quality grading for common carp (Cyprinus carpio) using fish size, based on mathematical equations. For this reason, 61 specimens of cultured market size carp were used and after filleting, their moisture, lipid, protein, energy and ash content were measured. Then, the relationships between proximate composition components of fillet and fillet length were studied. Results showed that there is an inverse linear regression relationship between logarithm of moisture content and logarithm of fish length (P〈0.05). The results also showed that there is a positive linear regression relationship between logarithm of lipid and energy content and logarithm of fish length (P〈0.05). No significant relationship was found between logarithm of fillet protein and ash content and logarithm of fish length (P〉0.05). Regarding the relationship between proximate composition of cultured carp fillets and fillet length machine fish sorting based on fish length and grading of moisture, lipid and energy content is feasible. We also found it feasible to determine type of processing and proximate composition of the prepared common carp.

Beschreibung: Population growth (length-weight relationship), and reproductive potential (e.g. fecundity, and sex-ratio) of five important fish species (‘mola’: Amblypharyngodon mola, ‘puti’: Puntius sophore, ‘tengra’: Mystus vittatus, ‘shing’: Heteropneustes fossilis and ‘taki’: Channa punctatus) collected from two important fresh water bodies (namely Hilna beel and Beel Kumari beel) Rajshahi, Bangladesh, were studied. Population growth pattern by length-weight relationship (W=aLb ) for the species differed, and exhibited positive allometric growth (P. sophore in Hilna beel), isometric growth (A. mola and C. punctatus in Hilna beel) and negative allometric growth (M. vittatus & H. fossilis in Hilna beel and A. mola, P. sophore, M. vittatus, C. punctatus and H. fossilis in Beel Kumari beel). The results denoted that fecundity of mature females followed a non-linear relationship (F=aLb ) with total length and exhibited positive allometric growth (b〉3) with some exception (A. mola in Hilna beel and M. vittatus in Beel Kumari beel). Fecundity of mature females also increased with total body weight and ovary weight following a linear relationship (F=a+bW). Differences in values of sexratios with seasons for all species in this study may have resulted from different environmental factors as well as breeding seasons. The findings of this study would be useful in imposing adequate regulations for the conservation of these fascinating fishes in the fresh water bodies of Bangladesh.

Beschreibung: One of the compounds of crude oil is Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). This study was conducted in the toxicology laboratory of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Research Center, Bandar Abbas in Spring 2005. Four commercial fishes were exposed to Oppm and 12ppm dosages of crude oil in long-term bioassay examination. After 8 days, exposed fish were freezed and packed seprately and then sent them to IBB (Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics) of Tehran University for determination of PAHs accumulated in their muscle. PAHs measurment was done with GC-FID. In this research, the amount of each compound of PAHs and total PAHs in each dosage was calculated seprately for each species. The result of data analysis shows that the mean accumulation amounts of PAHs (SD± Y. ) in tissues of control Pseudorhombus elevates, Euryglossa orientalis, Siganus javus and S. sutor exposed to Oppm dosage of crude oil were 929.66±251ppb, 1009±-11.7ppb, 1131±-35.0ppb and 487.6±4.0ppb and mean accumulation amounts of PAHs (SDA:i ) in those exposed to 12ppm dosage of crude oil were 3843±13.52ppb, 4272±18.77ppb, 2911±3 5. 5ppb and 2309.6±11.3ppb respectively. According to t-test, we concluded that in all four species the accumulation of crude oil in their muscle tissues between two mentioned dosages were significantit difference (P〈0.05). On the other hand, the high amount of PAHs in the control fishes probebly is due to pollution of Persian Gulf.

Beschreibung: GnRHa injection could accelerate and synchronous ovulation and spawning in female rainbow trout, the mean time to ovulation was reduced from 19.6±2.45 groups 2 to 5, respectively (P≤ 0.05). Also cumulative spawning rate increased in hormonal groups; up to 8th day after first injection. The cumulative spawning rate was 47.0, 34.4, 90.0 and 56.3% in groups 2 to 5 respectively. Although, until this time none the females in control group were spawned. In the end of experimental period (day 26), this rate was completed in group 2 to 5, but only 50% of females in control group was spawned. The mean weight of stripped eggs, egg diameter and mean survival rate to the eyed stage did not show any significant difference between experimental groups (P〉0.05). Testosterone levels were increased from 9.21±4.11 at time 0 to 23.47±14.29 ng/ml at 24 h after first injection, and then reduced to the basal levels in all hormonal groups (except group 5) at 72 h after first injection (10.91±3.11ng/ml) (P≤0.05). There wasn’t observed any testosterone levels fluctuation in control group.

Beschreibung: Effects of stocking density on growth, food conversion ratio, specific growth rate, percentage of body weight increase in Huso huso were studied in two phases. Juveniles below one year old with an average weight of 92.09±1.72 grams and stocking densities of 1.6, 2.8 and 4 kg/m2 in 3 replicates for 100 days were reared as the phase one group. One year old Huso huso with an average weight of 918.13±21.87 grams and stocking densities of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 kg/m2 reared for 120 days in 2000 liter fiberglass tanks were the second phase. Results revealed negative impact of density on growth, percentage of body weight, and specific growth rate and food conversion ratio in both phases. In the first phase, lower stocking density (1.6 kg/m2) showed significant increase in growth rate (P〈0.05) as compared to 2.8 and 4 kg/m2 stocking densities resulting in 42.3% and 61 % growth rate respectively. Fish kept at 4 kg/m2 density showed malformed caudal fins and injured body due to higher tensions and contacts. In the second phase, the growth rate of fish decreased with increase in stocking density where fish with lower density (1.5 kg/m2) showed 7.2%, 15.6%, and 19.8% higher weight gain as compared to fish reared at 2.5, 3.5 and 4 kg/m2 stocking density. Analyses showed that with increase in stocking density, feeding area per fish decreases and tension between fish increases that leads to lower feeding efficiency. Based on the results, the recommended optimum stocking density for Huso huso individuals up to 90 grams is 1.5-2 kg/m2 and for fish individuals over 900 grams each the density should be kept at 2.5-3 kg/m2.

Beschreibung: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impacts of diets supplemented with different lipid sources on growth performance, body composition, fatty acid profile, and hepatic antioxidant enzyme activity of juvenile black sea bream, Acanthopagrus schlegeli (initial mean weight, 1.1±0.02g). Four isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with either fish oil (FO), soybean oil (SO), linseed oil (LO) or a mixture of SO and LO (SO+LO). The results showed that survival, weight gain, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratios of black sea bream were not affected by dietary lipid sources (p〉0.05). Liver and muscle of fish fed the SO diet had high concentration of linoleic acid, while those of fish fed the LO diet were high in linolenic acid. Liver and muscle of fish fed the FO diet had significantly (p〈0.05) higher levels of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, compared to fishes fed the SO and LO diets. Superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase enzymes activities in liver of black sea bream were not influenced by dietary lipid sources. Our findings suggest that SO and/or LO can be used as a substitute for FO in black sea bream diets without adverse effects on growth performance and antioxidant enzyme activity, when the essential fatty acid requirements are present in diets for black sea bream.

Beschreibung: Rutilus frisii kutum, belonging to family Cyprinidae, was reared using mono-culture and poly-culture (combined with Chinese carps) methods. The culturing process were carried out in earthen ponds from 22 May to 23 October in 1992 and 1993. Physical and chemical factors, transparency of the water, sanitary control and growth of the fishes were surveyed monthly. Nitrate and phosphate fertilizer and animal manure (cow and chicken) were applied to facilitate the growth of phytoplanktons and benthoses. Fertilizer usage were regulated according to the results of hydrochemical analyses and the transparency of the water. The fishes were fed on artificial food, concentrated pellet specially made for Rutilus frisii kutum nutrition (KF). Their diet were calculated using the body weight percentage (biomass) as well as their appetite. The essential characteristics of the water including water temperature (15°c - 27.64°c), pH (6.9 - 8.74), dissolved oxygen (4.79 - 7.25 ppm) and trasparancy of the water (often varied between 20 - 30 cm) were measured in the first year. Mean weight of the young fishes in the ponds were 30 gr; after six months the fishes caught in mono-culture ponds had reached 177 gr. By poly-culture method fishes reached 185 gr, and their maximum weight were 300 gr. In the second year the ponds were stocked with young fishes weighing 7 gr. When the fishes in mono-culture and poly-culture ponds were caught, they had reached 168 gr and 192 gr, respectively. Their maximum weight were 250 gr.

Beschreibung: Heavy metals concentration (Cd, Pb, Cu, Ni) in muscle and gill tissue of the fish Barbus grypus was assessed in winter 2007. In total, 60 fish samples were taken from Arvand River and experiments were carried out on two fish tissues (muscle and gill) separated after biometrical measurements. Extraction of the heavy metals was performed using concentrated nitric acid and then A.A.S. was used for measurement of the heavy metals. Results showed 2.83, 16.42, 2.68, 0.77kg of heavy metals for gram dry weight of the fish for cadmium, lead, copper and nickel concentration in muscle tissue and 2.79, 9.03, 6.98, 1.39 in grill tissue. Metal levels in muscle tissue in this research were compared with standards values such as World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), based on which only lead and cadmium showed higher than standard levels. We found positive linear relationship between metal accumulation levels of cadmium and lead in muscle and gill tissue with total length and weight. There was a significant relationship between copper accumulation level in muscle tissue with weight but not so for the length. There was no significant relationship between copper accumulations level in the gill tissue with length and weight. There was significant relationship between nickel accumulation levels in the gill tissue and the total length and weight but not so for the muscle tissue.

Beschreibung: Fishes are a valuable source of dietary protein and minerals for seafood consumers and are also used in pharmaceutical products (Mozaffarian, 2009). Over the past several decades aquatic ecosystems have been extensively contaminated with pollutants released from domestic and industrial waste waters and other anthropogenic activities in Khuzestan, Iran. Heavy metals such as mercury are considered as one of the four most important pollutants of aquatic life because of their high toxicity and ability to bioaccumulate in tissue of aquatic organisms (Hajeb et al., 2009). The toxicity of Hg is highly dependent on its chemical form. Organic mercury compounds are more toxic than inorganic mercury salts which may bioaccumulate to levels that could increase health risks to seafood consumers (Syversen and Kaur, 2012). Since most mercury in fish tissue is present as methyl mercury (Me-Hg), it has been recommended that T-Hg in tissues can serve as a surrogate for MeHg (Kannan et al., 1998).

Beschreibung: Using glycerin as a solvent of hypophysis powder for inducing ovulation in Acipenser persicus was studied at Shahid Beheshti Sturgeon Fish Reproduction Complex and International Sturgeon Research Institute. The experiment was done using four treatments in five replications. In treatment one, the female fish were injected with glycerin, whereas in treatment two, physiologic serum was used for injection. The females in treatment three were given two injections of glycerin, while those of the treatment four received two injections of physiologic serum. The evaluated factors in the blood serum included 17- ß estradiol and 17- α hydroxy progesterone. The biometry factors were measured as well. The fish in treatment one showed higher frequency of fertilization, more concentration of estradiol and progesterone hormones compared to other treatments, although insignificantly. Treatment with one injection of physiologic serum caused the lowest amount of these factors. The fluidity of ovules in the glycerin treatments were more than physiologic-serum treatments. The ovulation time in the first treatment was shortest. A statistically significant sudden increase in progesterone was detected after hypophysis injection (P〈0.000). A high correlation between the temperature and the maturation time was observed (P=0.0001). The temperature showed a significant correlation with increase in progesterone level (P=0.005). The results indicated that glycerinated hypophysis is a more suitable substance for inducing ovulation than physiologic serum.

Beschreibung: Aquaculture is the most important part of Fisheries Organization duties in Iran. During several planning and developing programs, aquaculture productions had a considerable growth. Due to good potential, these productions were higher than the planed one. The North Alborz regions were investigated by four groups of experts. The regions which investigated were including 3 important provinces (e.g. Guillan, Mazandaran and Golestan). The area where investigated was 940 km along with coastal zone of Caspian Sea or 58678 km2 in total. Around 27% of aquaculture production came from this region. However, subdivision of fisheries can play important role in the economics in the region. The fisheries sub-sector has an important role in the economy of the region, and despite the great potential for agriculture and tourist industries in the North Alborz, there is a significant role in the prosperity of the fisheries activities. In the present study shows that Mazandaran and Guillan provinces has more potential in reservoirs and aquaculture production when compared with other provinces. Productions in Mazandaran either in reservoirs were less than Guillan province. Due to lee in reservoirs, Mazandaran had less investment when compared with Guillan province. The figures show that carrying capacity of aquaculture production for 3 provinces (Mazandaran, Guilan and Golestan) was higher than other provinces in the entire country. Due to, large land base, less investment, more interesting of farmers, no needs of complicated technology, farmer would be able to develop reservoirs as consequences to enhance productions. However, developing reservoirs and supporting of it's; can increase the contribution of warm water species in inland water.

All in all 60 alive fishes obtained from fishing boats and transferred to Aquaculture Department of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute (PGOSERI), but 50 of them died and only 10 fish survived. They divided in two groups and cultured in separated concrete tanks. Fished were fed with trush fish twice a day at a feeding rate of 4-5 percent of body weight. Culturing period last about 6 months. All the fishes gradualy died through the culturing period. Average of specific growth rate in group 1 and 2 were about 0/49 and 0/77 respectively. The weight gain for group 1 (WG) was %75 for 75 days of calturing time and % 142 for 190 days of culturing time while for group 2 it was %31 for 54 days of culturing time and % 75 for 190 days . Average weight of fishes belong to group 1 reached from 950(g) to 2150 (g) during 6 months, while group 2 reached from 872(g) to 1271/5 (g) in 3 months. Feed conversion rate (FCR) for group 1 and 2 were respectively about 6.9 and 6.8. With regard to cost of trash fish (about 2000 Rials per kilogram trash fish) the per unit feed cost of cobia production were 13613 and 13730 Iranian Rials per kilogram, respectively for group 1 and group 2. Results revealed that obtaining live individuals of cobia is very difficult and also cobia didn t grow well in concrete tanks but if we have better coopreration of local fishermen and also provide some Equipment such as cages in order to rear cobia in the sea , it is possible to achive more succes and obtaining better results .

Beschreibung: Based on an agreement between Jahad Nasr Hamzeh Company as "the employer" and the Iranian Fisheries Research Organization as "the executor", a project entitled “culture of Huso huso up to 10 kg" was conducted. A total of 600 Huso huso with the average weight of 5000 g were distributed in four 50 m2 circular concrete tanks (4 diameters) with the density of 25 kg/m2 . The experimental system was equipped with aeration. Dissolved oxygen concentration was maintained at 6-7 mg/l. Fish were fed experimental diets composed of 43% protein, 22 % lipids, 16.2% carbohydrates and 22 MJ/kg energy for 12 months. At the end of the first rearing phase (365 d), fish with the mean specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratios (FCR) of 0.27 and 2.91, respectively reached a weight of 9.06 kg. The highest growth parameters and the best FCR were recorded in spring and autumn. The mean body weight increase (BWI %), specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) in these seasons were estimated at (0.48, 0.36 % per day), (27.4, 20.13 % during the rearing period) and 1.85 and 1.74, respectively. Results obtained from this project revealed that Huso huso is a prospective candidate for intensive culture in concrete tanks and these results can be developed in many parts of the country.

Beschreibung: The Common carp is the most important culture fish in the word, that can be consider as domestic fish. The Common carp of Caspian Sea is one of the economic fish, that have some morphenological differences, resistance in salt water and better quality in meet with domestic once and for using this fish in culture system, it is necessary to establish genetically parameters especially the heritability for selection purpose. The present study have been started from 2007 and lasted 3 years. The breeders were collected from the Gomishan station in south-east of Caspian Sea by fisherman and stocked in S.Rajaei fish restocking center and propagate based on the routine propagation technique in this farm. For heritability estimation a factorial crosses by 7×7 fish were done. Therefore, the fingerlings of 49 crosses were achieved, that kept first separately fiberglass tank and then in pond separately. Weight and length of fish were choice for heritability estimation. The average weight of juvenile common carp in 3 sampling stage of 90, 180 and 360 days, were 5.9, 35.7 and 84.7 gram and length of 9.6, 14.7 and 19.2 cm respectively. The heritability estimation for weight was 0.26 and length 0.25. Selection response based on selection difference by collection the more average breeders among their progeny were 36.4 g that means by selection every generation, there is about 4 percent improving in fish weight.

Beschreibung: Limnological studies of the Zarrineh River have been performed in order to identify physicochemical and biological characteristics of this river. Water samples from 14 sites along the river length were examined monthly during a year. The results indicated the river was polluted by Saghez and Miandoab Cities sewage to the extent of poly saprob , the extent of pollution at other sites was within the limits of oligo saprob or meso saprob. The results also showed that all dissolved and mineral compositions in this river was safe for drinking but iron concentration and water hardness in the terminal sites near the Urmia Lake are higher than EPA standards for drinking . This can not, however, pose serious problem for warm water fish culture activities. Domestic sewage seem to be the most important pollution source to this river. Although the self-purification capacity of this river seem to be high but large number of polluting sites along the river exceed this capacity.

Beschreibung: Fish per capita consumption in the world is 18.8 kg. The value of fish consumption per capita in Iran has reported 9.1 kg. Comparing to the other countries the fish consumption in our country is very low. Therefore the government organizations are going to increase the fish consumption per capita. There are many ways for increasing the fish consumption that can be considered by the countries. Developing the fish production, producing the new fish products, good marketing and trading are the some of the ways. For the achievement to this objective, a comprehensive program should be planned. In seafood consumption the safety of the food is very important. This matter should also be considered by the consumers. Addition of using the fish as food, the aquatics organisms are very interested for producing the biological products. The road map for developing fish processing industries layout is designed for achieving to these proposes. The road map layout were included three chapters. Road map of fish processing, aquatics organism’s biological products, healthy and safety fishery products. The road map of the fish processing chapter is focused on dissolving the fish processing development problems. The road map of seafood healthy and safety products chapter is researched on identify the related problems and making some suggestions for removing the problems. The road map chaoter on aquatics biological products is subjected on preparing the program for producing the different biological products in pilot plan and industry scale.

The experiments were carried out in six different treatments with three replicates for 2 weeks. The feeding treatments during the first 10 days included: 1) Commercial diet, 2) A. Urmiana nauplii enriched with fish oil, 3) A. urmiana nauplii enriched with Sunflower oil, 4) A. urmiana nauplii enriched with Canola oil, 5) A. urmiana nauplii enriched with Soybean oil, 6) Newly hatched un-enriched A. urmiana nauplii. The highest concentrations of fatty acids in diet were oleic, palmitotic, linoleic, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and stearic acid, while in larvae tissue of trout in all treatments were oleic, linolenic, linoleic, stearic and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), respectively. The concentrations of eicosapentaenoic acid [20:5(n-3)] in contrast with docosahexaenoic acid [22:6(n-3)] in the Commercial diet were significantly reduced (P〈0.05). The highest concentrations of EPA was observed in nauplii enriched with fish oil in which statistically significant in comparison with the other treatments (P〈0.05). The DHA content in newly hatched non-enriched nauplii and nauplii enriched with vegetable oil were zero. The results showed that vegetable oil (Canola, Sunflower and Soybean) in comparison with fish oil give more suitable results and thus, the present study suggests that early life stage of larvae growth can be feed wih nauplii enriched with Canola oil.

Beschreibung: Microscopic structure of intestine of beluga was studied from hatching until releasing to sea. Larvae were fixed in bouin’s solution, dehydrated and embedded in paraffin wax. Sections of 5-7 μm thick were produced and stained according to standard histological techniques: Hematoxylin-Eosin ( HαE ) and Periodic Acid Schiff ( PAS ). One day old larvae possessed a primordial intestine, which is lined by a simple columnar ciliated epithelium. At 3 days after hatching, an oblique furrow of the digestive tube wall started to develop on the dorsal- posterior region of the yolk sac and divided the alimentary canal into two differentiated regions: the future stomach and intermediate intestine. At this time spiral valve started to differentiate. Granules of embryonic pigment accumulated in the spiral valve lumen forming the melanin plug. At 7 days after hatching intermediate gut and spiral gut were lined by a columnar ciliated epithelium. The terminal section of the digestive tract was differentiated into a short rectal duct lined with a cuboidal epithelium. The urinary bladder connected with rectum at this time. At 13 days after hatching the number of vacuoles filled with lipid increase in intermediate gut and spiral gut. Between 17-19 days post hatching beluga larvae have a period of mixed nutrition. At 25 days after hatching cells of intermediate gut showed long microvilli. At 36 days after hatching the number of goblet cells increased in spiral gut. At 43 days after hatching several intestine glands were visible in connective tissue of intermediate gut which was lined by a simple columnar ciliated epithelium. Between 57-75 days after hatching the number and size of mucosal folds increased in intestine. This information may be useful to improve rearing efficiency of beluga and the other sturgeons.

Beschreibung: Variation of hydrochemical conditions, with special reference to adequacy of waters as fish habitats, was traced based on selected hydrochemical parameters obtained during the studies conducted from February 2013 till February 2014 year. The results were compared with earlier studies. The sources of organic pollution were identified, and the effect of biogenic substances on the biomass, as well as the self-purification capability of the river, were assessed. The total suspension exceeded the requirements for waters which are habitats of both salmonid and cyprinid fishes. Compared to the previous years, the load of organic and inorganic matter in the waters of Wiśniówka River increased; this may have resulted from external inflow, neighbourhood of the hatchery but also, to a small extent, from internal supply. The high availability of nitrogen-(NNH_4 + ; N-NO_2 - , N-NO_3 - ) and phosphorus-(total phosphorus; P-PO_4 ^3- ) based biogenic (substances favoured the biomass production, thus contributing to the increase in organic matter load in the river.

Beschreibung: The present study explored the embryonic and larval development of an endangered fish species Nandus nandus and resolved larval growth performances with the dietary supplementation of different types of lipids. Fertilized eggs were collected from fiber glass tanks immediately after spontaneous spawning of N. nandus, which were fed with a 1% phospholipid (squid meal) supplemented diet for 3 months. Fertilized eggs were transparent, spherical, yellowish and sticky in nature. The first cleavages of eggs were observed 0.3±0.01 h post fertilization at 26oC water temperature. Hatching started around 18 h post - fertilization and newly hatched larvae were found to be 1.2±0.1 mm in length. First feeding started 64.0±0.30 h post hatching. After rearing for 10 days, they were divided into 4 groups and separately fed with only dry tubificid worms, 1% docosahexaenoic (DHA) supplemented with dry tubificid worm, 1% phospholipid supplemented with dry tubificid worm and live tubificid worms as treatment I, treatment II, treatment III and treatment IV, respectively. After 50 days of the trial, larvae of treatment II showed significantly (p〈0.01) higher growth performances in length: 3.18±0.13 cm, weight: 339.8 ± 36.94 mg and survival rate: 78±2 % which were comparable to that of treatment IV, which showed the highest (p〈0.01) length of 3.4±0.1 cm, weight of 406.6±27.99 mg and survival rate of 97±1 %. Larvae in treatment I showed the lowest growth performances in length: 2.73 ± 0.16 cm, weight: 259.8±29.97 mg and survival rate of 63±3 %. As this is the first record for the determination of embryonic and larval development of N. nandus with different lipid supplemented diets, it might be possible to save this endangered fish species by adopting this technology at field level.

Beschreibung: The aim of this study was to examine the adverse effects of zinc nanoparticles on hematological indices of trout and investigate the improvement of these indices after vitamin C treatments. This study assesses the protective role of vitamin C in fish exposed to ZnO NPs. Two concentrations of ZnO-NPs (40 and 80 mg L-1) and two doses of vitamin C (400 and 800 mg per kg of feed) were used to treat 162 specimens of Oncorhynchus mykiss. No mortality was observed during the test. After 5 and 10 days of exposure, hematological data were analyzed according to routine clinical methods. Statistical analysis showed significant changes in WBCs and RBC on day 10 (p〈0.05). Values for HT and MCH were significantly higher in treatment 2 (normal diet+40 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) and 9 (800 mg/kg Vit + 80 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs), and lower in treatment 3 (normal diet+80 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) in comparison with the control group (normal diet+0 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) (P〈0.05). No significant differences of MCV and MCHC were observed (p〉0.05), while significant increase in neutrophils and monocytes, and decrease in lymphocyte cells were recorded (p〈0.05). ZnO-NPs stimulated the immune system of O. mykiss, but this effect did not have any lethality on this species at 40 and 80 mg L-1. Vitamin C in different concentrations could help to prevent rainbow trout from the toxic effects of this nano metal.

Beschreibung: A 60-days growth trial was conducted in a flow-through culture system to examine the effects of different dietary vitamin C and iron levels on the growth, hematological and immunological parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fingerlings (with average initial weight of 5.12 ± 0.02 g). Three levels of vitamin C (150, 200 and 250 mg kg-1 diet) and iron (5, 7 and 9 mg kg-1 diet) (as ferrous sulfate) and their combination were used to prepare diets used in nine experimental treatments with three replicates. The results revealed that the supplementation of basal diet with vitamin C and iron significantly affected the final body weight (FBW), total length (TL), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and specific growth rate (SGR). Among the haematological parameters haematocrit and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were significantly influenced by vitamin C and iron. Results also showed that lysozyme and IgM concentrations significantly changed among dietary treatments. Based on the results of this study, it can be conclude that addition of vitamin C and iron to the basal diet of cultured rainbow trout will improve the growth rate and well-being of this fish.

Beschreibung: In this study changes in fatty acids profile during frozen storage at -18°C of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum), caught from the Persian Gulf (Bandar Abbas) were studied. Changes in saturated fatty acids (SFAs), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), EPA+DHA/C16, n-3 PUFA/n-6 PUFA (n-3/n-6) and polyunsaturated fatty acids /saturated fatty acids (PUFA/SFA) were investigated during a six- month storage at -18°C. Eighteen fatty acids were found in Cobia, with higher percentage of saturated fatty acids (46.07%), monounsaturated fatty acids (33.72%) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (15.44%). The MUFAs and PUFAs reduced from 33.72 to 26.26% and 15.44 to 10.78%, respectively. Palmitic acid (C16:0, 27.42% of total fatty acids) and stearic acid (C18:0, 12.62%) were the dominant saturated fatty acids. The major unsaturated fatty acids were determined as docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6n3, 5.76%), oleic acid (C18:1n9, 25.76%) and linoleic acid (C18:2n6, 4.38%). As a result of the frozen storage (up to 6 months), marked content decreases were found in fatty acid groups such as monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and n-3 polyunsaturated, as well as in the n-3/n-6 ratio and it means that the nutritional value of Cobia has decreased.

Beschreibung: This paper presents the results of a parasitological study on internal parasitic infections in saposhnikovi shad, Alosa saposchnikowii, from the southern part of the Caspian Sea. In this regard 30 fish were studied for abdominal cavity parasites in February 2014. Results showed all of the specimens were infected at least with one kind of parasite and there was no significant difference in parasitic infections between males and females. According to the results three kinds of parasites including one trematode (Pronoprymna ventricosa) and two kinds of nematodes (Anisakis simplex and Eustrongylides sp) were isolated from the abdominal cavity of the studied fish. 43.33 % of the specimens were infected with A. simplex, 96.66 % were infected with P. ventricosa and 16.66 % of the specimens were infected with Eustrongylides sp. Intensity of infection to A. simplex, P. ventricosa and Eustrongylides sp in saposhnikovi shad was calculated as, 3.46 ± 1.76, 131 ±16.78 and 2 ± 0.71, respectively. According to the results 33.33% intestine, 10% liver and 6.66% mesentery of specimens were infected with A. simplex, 26.66% stomach, 86.66% pyloric caeca and 66.66% intestine of studied fish were infected with P. ventricosa and Eustrongylides sp was isolated in 13.33% mesentery and 3.33% liver of the specimens. It seems this is the first record of A. simplex and Eustrongylides sp infection from saposhnikovi shad in Iran. These parasites are important because of their pathogenicity in fish and zoonotic risk in human health care.

Beschreibung: Heavy metal pollution dispersion simulation in rivers and predicting spatial and temporal variations of pollutants can be used to determine the precise place and to schedule water withdrawal time for drinking, agriculture, aquaculture and ecosystem studies. To study the movement of heavy metal pollution through Karoon flow model, MIKE 11 was employed fpr simulation of the flow model of Karoon River as well as heavy metal moving. The model was run for lead along the 214 km of Karoon River from Ahwaz to Darkhvein. The input data used for this model were river morphology parameters, statistical data of water flow and water contamination. The output of the model conformed to real data collected from different locations along the River. It was concluded that Karoon River water exploitation for fish culturing (e.g., salmon culture) should be at least 40 km far from Ahwaz (close to Bayoz City) from July to December and 20 km for the rest of the year.

Then two fragments of 171 and 362 bp from 5'-UTR and 3'-UTR regions of IGF-I gene were amplified, respectively. Genotyping of individuals by SSCP technique showed five banding patterns of A, B, C, D and E for 5'-UTR region with the frequencies of 29.2, 0.76, 16.92, 51.53 and 10% respectively in one year-old and three banding patterns of A, C and D with the frequency of 45, 10 and 45% for two year-old fish. Also three banding patterns (A, B and C) were seen for 3'-UTR region with the frequency of 62.3, 27.69 and 10.76% in one-year-old and 20, 60 and 20% in two year-old fish. The A banding pattern in 3'-UTR and D banding pattern in 5'-UTR sites were the most frequent pattern in the studied beluga population. The association analysis using SAS statistical software indicated no significant association between observed banding patterns and growth traits (body length, weight, and condition factor) in beluga. Considering the important role of IGF-I as a probable candidate gene affecting growth related traits, these marker sites should be studied more in larger sample sizes and also in other regions of the gene.

Beschreibung: Whereas it is well documented that the genus Acinetobacter is associated with antibiotic resistant bacteria and human clinical infections, there are very few studies to date that report it as an emerging new pathogen for fish. In the present study, Acinetobacter lwoffii was isolated from diseased rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) from Iranian farms, in the Khuzestan Province by both biochemical tests and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based methods and further confirmed as the causative agent by infectivity experiment. Uni or bilateral exophthalmia, blackening of the skin, abdominal distension, hemorrhages around the mouth cavity and eyes, basal fine, skin, gills and in internal organs were the main clinical signs in the affected fish. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA sequence of MD77 revealed a 99% homology with that of A. lwoffii (GenBank accession no.KR856323.1) form Iran. Histopathological changes of challenged rainbow trout including focal necrosis of liver cells (hepatocyte), pyknotic nucleus and karyolysis of hepatocyte, hyperemia, fatty acid composition change of liver, infiltration of inflammatory cells, sinusoidal dilatation and congestion. The drug resistance of isolates and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was examined and showed that A. lwoffii was multiresistant to 8 of the antimicrobial agents tested.

Beschreibung: The Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) is considered as an endemic sturgeon of the south part of the Caspian Sea and provides the highest Iranian caviar production. Due to overfishing, degradation of the rivers conditions of the natural reproductive habitats, the fish stocks is decreasing. The immature breeders do not response to hormonal therapy at the sturgeon hatcheries as most having PI (above 10) and large numbers of breeders caught and transported to the hatcheries were unable to reproduce. This study was attempted to find the effect of LHRHa implantation on oocytes maturation and spawning of Persian sturgeon. Broodstocks were caught from the southeast region of the Caspian Sea. The selected female broodstocks (PI〉10) ranged in size from 24.0 to 37.5 kg were implanted with LHRHa cholesterol pellets at concentrations of 0 μg/kg (control), and treatments of 10, 15 and 20 μg/ kg (in three replicates. The results from this study indicated that females treated with LHRHa hormone implantation at 10, 15, 20 µg per kg body weight reached final maturation. These results were observed for all fish from treatment numbers 2 (15 μg/ kg) and 3 (20 μg/kg), however only one fish reached final maturation in treatment 1(10 μg/ kg). The current implantation of LHRHa was able to enhance breeders with PI above 10 to final maturation which under normal condition at sturgeon’s hatcheries this is not possible. The results suggested that final maturation can be achieved that lead to high fertilization (78.33% ±13.87, 68.33% ±4.16 in treatment 2 and 3, respectively) and hatching rates (85.3% ±9.07, 68.33% ±7.64 in treatment 2 and 3, respectively) and also total larvae production. Thus, the information from this study is very useful for artificial propagation of not-fully-matured females of Persian sturgeon at Sturgeon hatcheries especially in Iran.

Beschreibung: Genetic diversity of six populations of bartail flathead (Platycephalus indicus Linnaeus, 1758) was investigated using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP). A total of 118 reproducible bands amplified with ten AFLP primer combinations were obtained from 42 fishes that were collected from six different locations in the northern part of the Persian Gulf. The percentage of polymorphic bands was 57.06%. Nei’s genetic diversity was 0.1808±0.2074 - 0.2164±0.1903, and Shannon’s index was 0.2675±0.2949 - 0.3280±0.2727. The results of AMOVA analysis indicated that 66% and 34% of the genetic variation occurred within and among the populations and gene flow was 0.6454. The estimated level of population differentiation as measured by average Fst value across all loci was 0.327. Analyses revealed significant genetic differentiation with low gene flow among the six locations, indicating at least six separate populations of bartail flathead in the northern part of the Persian Gulf.

Beschreibung: This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of various starvation and refeeding periods on growth, feed utilization and body composition in Asian sea bass (Lates calcarifer) with an average initial weight of 30.26±1.4 g (mean±SE). The fish were exposed to three different regimes: the control group fed twice daily to apparent satiation throughout the experiment (C), the first group starved for 4 days and refed for 16 days, this cycle was repeated two times (T1) and the second group starved for 8 days and refed for 32 days (T2). At the end of experiment, there were not any significant differences in growth and feeding performance among different treatments (p〉0.05). Daily feed intake was significantly higher in the deprived fish than in the control fish (p〈0.05). There were no differences in moisture, lipid, ash and nitrogen free extract (NFE) content of carcass at the end of different starvation and refeeding periods between the deprived and control fish (p〉0.05). Starvation had a significant effect on protein content on one sampling date during the experimental period; protein content in T2 on day 8 was significantly lower compared to the control (p〈0.05). Sea bass showed complete compensation indicating a high ability of the deprived fish to grow sufficiently to fully compensate for weight loss during starvation. The results suggested that the feeding schedule involving starvation-refeeding cycles could be a promising feed management option for the culture of this species.

Beschreibung: Zearalenone (ZEA) as mycoestrogen is found in human foods and animal feeds. Its estrogenic potency depends on its biotransformation fate. The hepatic biotransformation of ZEA in two species of sturgeon fish (Acipenser persicus and Huso huso) was investigated. ZEA was incubated with the hepatic microsomal and post-mitochondrial sub-fractions in the presence of NADPH and the metabolites were determined by means of HPLC. Moreover, the rate of glucuronidation for ZEA and its metabolites were estimated in the presence of uridine diphosphateglucuronic acid. b-zearalenol (b-ZOL) was found to be the major metabolite of ZEA by both sub-fractions. Enzymatic kinetics studies revealed that the maximum velocity (Vmax) in microsomal and post-mitochondrial fractions for b-ZOL production was found 5- and 7-folds in Huso huso and 8- and 12-folds in A. persicus higher than that for a-ZOL production, respectively. The H. huso hepatic post-mitochondrial fraction mainly glucurinated ZEA while in A. persicus, the metabolites and in particular b-ZOL were glucuronidated. Data suggest that the hepatic biotransformation of ZEA in studied sturgeons resulted in detoxification of ZEA as the main metabolite tends to be b-ZOL with weaker estrogenic property. Moreover, clear differences in glucuronidation profile are indicating interspecies variety in hepatic biotransformation of ZEA.

Beschreibung: The purpose of this study was to determine changes in hematological and plasma indices of Common Carp Cyprinus carpio with regard to age, sex and hormonal treatment. Sixty fish were used to assess the age factor. Also, 20 fish including female and male were assigned to determine blood indices with regard to sex and hormonal treatment. The pituitary gland extract was used as hormone for males and females. Red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), calcium, glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, protein and phosphorus showed significant differences among ages. However, hematocrit (HCT), lymphocyte and neutrophil did not show significant differences. Statistical analysis revealed that males had higher values of RBC, Ht, Hb, MCV, MCH, lymphocyte, neutrophil and cholesterol compared to females. Some hematology and plasma indices influenced both sexes before and after hormonal treatment. These results provide useful information for monitoring changes in the health status of fish.

From the order Pleuronectiformes ( ray-finned fishes), Psettodes erumei (Psettodidae), Pseudorhombus elevatus (Bothidae) and Brachirus orientalis (Soleidae) were selected for the survey. One hundred and forty eight fishes including 97 P. erumei, 43 P. elevatus and 8 B. orientalis were provided from two different regions of Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. From P. erumei, 4 species of nematodes, one cestode and one acanthocephal species are reported including: Philometra sp., Contracaecum sp., Pseudoterranova sp., Raphidascaris sp., Dasyrhynchus sp. (Trypanorhyncha) larvae and Serrasentis sagittifer. This is the first report of S. sagittifer in P. erumei from the Persian Gulf. P. elevatus had fewer species of parasites including one nematode, Contracaecum, one copepod, Heterochondria pillai and one digenea metacercaria Stephanostomum sp. Brachirus orientalis harbored one copepod and two digenea species, Allocreadium sp. and Lepocreadioides zebrini. Our research provides evidences that Indian spiny turbots have larger diversity of parasites than the deep flounders.

Beschreibung: Euglenophyte bloom is a common problem in most of the aquaculture ponds in Bangladesh. In the present study we conducted an experiment to control euglenophyte bloom for achieving better fish production using duckweed (Lemna minor) and lime. The experiment was carried out using four treatments, i.e., ponds were supplied with duckweed (T1), lime treatment (T2), both duckweed and lime (T3) and without supply of duckweed and lime (T4). Rohu, catla, mrigal, silver carp and silver barb were stocked and their gut contents were analyzed monthly. The ranges of water quality parameters were analyzed within the productive limit during the experimental period. The mean abundance of euglenophyte was significantly highest in T4 (17.62 ± 1.97 x 104 cells/L), followed by T2 (2.96 ± 0.20 x 104 cells/L), T1 (1.94 ± 0.35 x 104 cells/L) and T3 (1.53 ± 0.42 x 104 cells/L). Gut content analysis revealed that considerable amounts of euglenophyte were consumed by silver carp and silver barb, but not preferred by rohu, catla and mrigal. The gross yields of fish were 2133.37, 1967.76, 2816.52 and 1725.62 kg/ha/5 months in T1, T2, T3 and T4 respectively. The highest fish production in T3 and lowest fish production in T4 indicated the use of duckweed and lime is economically sustainable for controlling euglenophytes bloom, maintaining water quality and getting higher fish production.

The effect of black cumin oil on growth performance, feed content and fatty acid composition of rainbow trout was researched. The starting weight of fish in the experimental group was approximately 60 g, which increased to 215.21±4.12g, 217.32±3.14g, 235.12±2.9g, 240.21±6.5g, 260.14±4.7g, and 258.89±1.6g, respectively and the differences in growth between the groups were observed to be statistically significant (p〈0.05). Black cumin oil decreased the feed conversion rate of the fish. The addition of black cumin oil in the fish feed increased feed consumption and the daily feed consumed per fish for each group was as follows: 0.93g, 0.93g, 0.97g, 1.00g, 1.02g and 1.02g, respectively. At the end of the experiment the economic conversion rates of the fish ($ Kg-1 ) were between 1.58 and 1.67, while the economic benefit index was between 0.60 and 0.72. The study showed that protein efficiency rates and specific growth rates of the experimental groups had increased. The addition of black cumin oil to the feed increased the proportions of raw protein, oil and raw cinder in the trout and decreased the proportion of moisture, while also increasing the amounts of linoleic, oleic and stearic acids. In conclusion, the addition of 1.00% black cumin oil in feeds increases growth performance in fish and decreases production costs.

Beschreibung: The aim of this study was to screen potential probiotic bacteria against Aeromonas hydrophila and determine the effects of antagonistic bacteria and a commercial product containing lactic acid bacteria on the survival and growth of stage II Astacus leptodactylus juveniles. For this purpose, a total of 110 bacterial strains were isolated from adult, stage II crayfish juveniles and rearing water screened for antagonistic activities against A. hydrophila with well diffusion agar assay. Hafnia alvei strain from stage II crayfish juveniles displayed the inhibition zone (10mm) against A. hydrophila. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four treatments for 60 days: (I) crayfish fed with live food without probiotics (control group); (II) crayfish fed with live food enriched with lactic acid bacteria (0.015 gL-1); (III) crayfish fed with live food enriched with Hafnia alvei (106 CFU mL−1); (IV) crayfish fed with control diet and H. alvei added to rearing water (106 CFU mL−1). As a result of this study, lactic acid bacteria and Hafnia alvei applications did not positively affect growth and survival of stage II A. leptodactylus juveniles. In the future, studies on screening potential probiotic bacteria should be used in vitro and in vivo tests. In addition, it will be useful to investigate the lactic acid bacteria and Bacillus spp. from indigenous microflora of crayfish.

Beschreibung: The Kor River (Fars province) was divided into three parts and water and fish specimens were collected monthly and the concentrations of four heavy metals were determined using the Induction Coupled Plasma Method. As middle sampling zone was the main entrance and discharges of industries into the River, the concentrations of heavy metals in tissue of fish from this zone were significantly higher (p 〈 0.05) than those from the other two sampling zones, whereas no significant differences (p 〉 0.05) were detected between the two sexes and species. Maximum concentrations of lead, mercury and cadmium in fish tissues were higher than the permissible levels for human consumption. Significant changes in the concentrations of steroid hormones were also noticed between the middle and two other sampling zones. Also in middle sampling zone, pathological changes in blood cells, liver, and kidneys of fishes were significantly higher. So heavy metals exposure can effectively decrease estrogenic and androgenic secretion in fish. The results confirmed exposure of fishes to heavy metals not only disrupts reproductive hormones’ secretion, but also induces some pathological changes.

Beschreibung: The Sefidrud river has always been the natural spawning site for many anadromous fish species, including sturgeon, kutum, Vimba vimba pers a and Calcalburnus chalcoides. Many factors such as marine constructions, removing sand and fine sand and pollution have reduced the productivity of the river, which have caused a decline in the migration of the. fishes to the river. Our study revealed that, despite the environmental pressure on the river, some fishes still migrate to the Sefidrud river. Besides sturgeon, bony fishes, which are highly valued at the market also migrate to the Sefidrud river. The spawning of kutum in the Sefidrud river peaked in the second half of March, when water temperature reached 11°C. By a regulatory management of the catch, this river is able to conserve the biological productivity of the southern Caspian Sea.

Beschreibung: A parasitological survey was carried out during 1994-1996 in Mazandaran and Guilan Provinces (Caspian Sea). 159 samples from 17 different species were examined. Samples were collected from Tajan River, Anzali Lagoon and some fish farms. Immediately after caught live fish were transported to laboratory and kept in aquarium for further examination. During this study ten species of Myxosporean parasites were separated, identified and classified. This is the first report on infestation of inland fishes of Iran by these ten parasite species. Morphology of spores, development stages of plasmodia, tissue specifications and cyst production of these parasite species were investigated in the present study. Four of the Myxosporeans were identified as potential pathological hazards for three fish species. These are Myxobolus pavlovski for Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and Big Head (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis), M. bramae for Kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum). M.muelleri and M. ellipsoides for Cyprinids. The other six identified Myxoporid species are: Myxobolus pseudodispar, M. minutus, M. musculi, M. musayevi, M. samgoricus and Myxidium pfeifferi.

Beschreibung: Changes in diet during the recent years have caused a marked increase in consumption of saturated fatty acids and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) with a concomitant decrease in the intake of n-3 PUFAs. Increased fish consumption has been shown to be one of the best way to increase dietary intake of long-chain n-3 PUFAs such as eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid and more balanced n-6: n-3 ratios. Our objective in this research was to characterize fatty acid profile of 7 commonly consumed fish species with different prices, from Persian Gulf. Fishes were collected from local market of Bandar abbas. Fatty acid composition of samples was determined using gas chromatography. This analysis revealed that Pomadasys kakkam and Pseudorhombus elevates contained highest concentrations of n-3 PUFA, low saturated fatty acids (42.41%, 35%) and Pampus argennteus, as one of the most expensive among southern marine fishes contained lowest concentrations of n-3 PUFA, higher saturated fatty acids (6.72% , 42%).

Beschreibung: The LC50 of two anaesthetic agents, clove essence and MS222, on the cultivated fish species, Acipenser persicus, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Cyprinus curpio were estimated. 640 samples of above mentioned species were used exposing anaesthetic agents for 2 minutes. LC50 of clove essence and MS222 for sturgeon estimated 297 and 291 ppm, for common carp was 271 and 272 ppm; and for rainbow trout Was 199 and 207 pmm, respectively. Significant difference was found only between LC50 of MS222 in rainbow trout with LC50 of both agents in two other species. Also, the results showed that there is no significant difference on poisoning of two applied drugs in all above mentioned species; with comparing different species, rainbow trout had lower tolerance to both anesthetics.

Beschreibung: We sampled 139 specimen of Acipenser persicus and 103 Acipenser stellatus over the years 1998-1999 in five fishing zones of the southern Caspian Sea for heavy metal contamination assessment. Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry was used to determine contamination of the specimens with Zn, Cu, Cd, and Pb and cold vapor method for Hg. The mean age for A. persicus and A. stellatus was 17.6±2.6 years and 11.9±1.8 years, respectively. The mean concentrations of heavy metals assessed for dry weight of the muscle tissues and caviar in A. persicus were 26.9 and 65.9 µg/g for Zn, 1.8 and 4.2 µg/g for Cu, 0.61 and 0.111 µg/g for Pb and 0.61 and 0.005 µg/g for Cd. The wet weight concentration of Hg in the muscle tissue and caviar of the fish were 0.06 and 0.007 µg/g respectively. For A. stellatus we determined the mean concentration of heavy metals in dry weight of the muscle tissue and caviar to be 27.4 and 57.8 µg/g for Zn, 1.64 and 4.85 µg/g for Cu, 0.481 and 0.112 µg/g for Pb and 0.59 and 0.005 µg/g for Cd while the wet weight concentration of Hg were 0.05 and 0.008 µg/g. By international standards, the contamination of the muscle tissue and caviar samples with the heavy metals in the two sturgeon species are well below maximum allowable for human consumption.

Beschreibung: Sexual dimorphism is a phenomenon among some fish species such as the members of the genus Aphanius. Among species with sexual dimorphism, morphological analysis needs to be performed separately. Hence, this investigation was carried out to determine suitable sex of Aphanius dispar for morphological studies. A total 180 specimens (male and female) were collected from populations of Sarbaz, Mehran and Shour rivers. Digital picture of speciments were taken from their left sides and then 17 landmark points cover their body shape were determined and digitized using tpsDig2 software. The data after GPA, were analyzed using PCA, CVA and MANOVA. The results revealed that studied population can be differitiated based on their body shap but between male and female of the Shour and Mehran rivers did not found significant different ib their separate analysis. Sexual dimorphism in the head and trunk seems to be a general feature in A. dispar. Based on the results in A. dispar, males can be suggested as proper sex for morphometric studies.

Beschreibung: Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) represents one of the most economically important fish species in the Caspian Sea. In this study, growth and mortality parameters among population of common carp was investigated. Sampling was carried out weekly, using beach seine in the south of the Caspian Sea from October 2006 to September 2007. As a contribution to elaborating management programs for common carp, the age and growth of this species was calculated via scale, growth parameters and mortality rate by length frequency data obtained from commercial fishing and research beach seines. Ten age groups were recorded from 1+ to 10+ years old, being dominated by 4 and 5 year-old fish. The growth parameters based on scale reading data by length at age analysis were FL¥= 71.52cm and K = 0.16 per year for total population, FL¥= 70.54cm and K = 0.15 per year for males, and FL¥= 72.00 cm and K = 0.16 per year for females, whereas by length frequency analysis, these values were estimated as FL¥ equals 72.0, 69.3 and 73.0cm and K equals 0.18, 0.15 and 0.18 per year for total population, males and females, respectively. The total, natural and fishing mortality rates were 0.71, 0.29 and 0.42 per year, respectively.

Beschreibung: An area of major concern in fish hatcheries is the provision of a dependable, nutritionally complete, economical food source for the fish larvae. In hatcheries, fish are raised from the eggs to the juvenile stages, until they are suitable for transfer to ponds or cages. Microalgae feeds are currently used in relatively small amounts in aquaculture, mainly for the production of larvae and juvenile shell- and finfish, as well as for raising the zooplankton required for the feeding of juvenile aquatic animals. Microalgae are the most important phytoplankton used as larval food (Benemann, 1992; Granvil, 1995; Hertrampf and PiedadPascual, 2000; INVE, 2010).

Beschreibung: The objective of this study was to assess the bioaccumulation of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cr and Fe) in the muscles of five fish species (Sander lucioperca, Liza auratus, Alosa caspia, Cyprinus carpio and Liza saliens) from Gorgan Bay in the south-eastern Caspian Sea, in order to determine the value daily intake of heavy metals by consumption of fish and human health risk assessment. The concentration of metals was estimated using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometer. Potential health risk assessments based on estimated daily intake (EDI) values and target hazard quotient (THQ) indicated that the intakes of metals by consuming these fish species do not result in an appreciable hazard risk for the human body. The hazard index (HI) calculated was lower than 1 for all the species. However, the results indicate that the high concentrations of Pb (in the muscle of L. auratus) and Fe in all fish is alarming.

Beschreibung: Inositol is usually classified as an essential vitamin for most animals, and is recognised as a part of the B-complex vitamins. Among all other inositol isomer forms, myo-inositol possesses biological activity. It is found in the brain, skeletal, heart, and main reproductive tissues and exists as a structural component of phosphatidylinositol in biological cell membranes. Myo-inositol, also acts as a growth factor and affects the antioxidant capacity and oxidative status of cells. It is a major intracellular osmolyte that can be accumulated to protect cells from a variety of stresses and can also participate in transmembrane signal transfer. Myo-inositol is synthesised by various animal tissues and microorganisms in gut and fulfils the requirement for a few fish species. However, the supply of inositol by exogenous source (the diet) is required in most fish and shrimp for preventing deficiency signs such as inefficiency in digestion and food utilization, poor growth, fin erosion, dark skin colouration, and high accumulation of lipid in liver and muscle. The current paper aimed to provide a review on the published studies on the role of inositol in aquaculture.

Beschreibung: Ecological characteristics a Barbus grypus, B.sharpoyi, Capoeta trutta, Mugil abu, Tenualosa ilisha and Johnius belangerii, occurring in Zohre river were studied, among fresh water fishes, B.grypus showed versatility in its habitats, thus occurring frequently in the river. In contrast. B.sharpeyi, a stenohaline fish, was found only in a limited section of river reaching to the estuary. C.trutta even so being stenohaline, covered a wider range of the river in comparison with B.sharpeyi, thus showing more compatibility with varying phsico-chemical environments. Amongst anadormous fishes, Mugli abu covered a greater part of the river and it seems likely the fish spawns two times a year. The occurrence of this species shows a peak in summer and winter. On the contrary, T.ilisba occurs only on spring and summer in the river, evidently for spawning. Apparently, the preferred environment for the Spawing of the latter ought to be alkaline and have low salinity and high oxygen content accompanied by muddy bottom, slow water current and high depth. The J.belangerii showed the least occurrence and mainly caught in the estuary in Autumn.

Beschreibung: Abramis brama orientalis is a valuable fish species in the Caspian Sea. Its stock after has been faced with pronounced depletion since 1941. The release of millions of its fry have not been successful to restore its stock. A slim fluctuation were observed in its natural stocks during last seven years in the Iranian coastal areas. In comparison to 1992-1993, catch showed a 4.4 tons increment in 1998-99. No pronounced increase was observed considering release of 70.46 million fry during mentioned period. Young and immature fish provide main part of the catch while mature individuals provided a small part of it during 1978-1979. For most rate of catch comprised by young and immature fish and the number of brood-stock fish were very small amount in the catch as in the year of 1998-1999, 20.3% of catch formed by one year old fish and 37.3% by two years old. The average length, weight and age of bream in the years of 1998-99 calculated 22.5cm, 212.2gr and 2.4 years respectively. The depletion of the stock could be attributed to the following important cases, such as non-rational catch practicing, environmental, pollution, destruction of natural spawning grounds, the existence of predatory fish for example Pike and Sheatfish in fries unloading site, and lack of necessary arrangement relevant to artificial spawning. The rate of recruitment of Bream to fisheries calculated 4.6% in 1991 and 2.7% in 1992.

Beschreibung: We treated 150 specimens of Acipenser nudiventris with diazinon and used 30 individuals as control to assess the haematological effects of the pesticide and LC50(96h) for the fish. The acute toxicity test lasting 96 hours was conducted on juvenile Acipenser nudiventris kept in aerated stagnant water contaminated with diazinon. The LC50(96h) values of diazinon for Acipenser nudiventris juveniles was 4.6 mg/i. The experimental groups of fish showed statistically significant difference in their erythrocyte, haemoglobine, leukocyte and differential leukocyte count (P〈0.05). Acute toxicity effects of diazinon on the fish was recorded as lowered erythrocyte and lymphocyte count with a significant increase in developed neutrophile count (P〈0.05). It is suggested that the change in erythrocyte and leukocyte count may have been caused as a result of disruption of haematopoiesis and a decrease in non-specific immunity level of the fish.

The length infinity (L∞), growth coefficient (K) and the length at age zero (t0) of the fish measured as 57.8 cm, 0.3 per year and -0.003 respectively. The relationship between the length and weight of the fish was estimated as 0.0469 for “a” , 2.829 for "b" and 0.914 for the correlation coefficient. The average length of the fish in different months of the year calculated and a Tukey test showed that this was significantly different.

Beschreibung: During a protozoological study on the fishes of West-Azarbayejan province (Northwest of Iran) in 1998, three different protozoans were revealed. Myxobolus musayevi from Capoeta capoeta, Myxobolus dispar from Aspius aspius taeniatus and Goussia carpelli from Cyprinus carpio. Altogether 13 different fish specimen were examined. The fishes including: Aspius aspius taeniatus (2), Rutilus ruti/us (3), Capoeta cpoeta (2) and Cyprinus carpio (6). They were caugth from Aras and Mahabad Dams and transported alive to the laboratory where they were wieghted and measured. Then, they were examined for protozoan infections when their spinal cord was cut. Myxobolus musayevi had already reported from Capoeta capoeta from Taj an in Mazandaran province. This is the first record of Myxobolus dispar from Aspius aspius taeniatus from Iranian freshwaters. Goussia carpelli also had already recorded (unpublished) from the Cyprinus carpio from Sepeedroud River in Guilan province. In this study, three of C. carpio which were caught from Aras Dam had been infected by the oocyst of the Goussia carpelli in the mocus of the intestine.

Beschreibung: Infection with Diplostomum spathaceum parasite is studied in 660 fish specimens from Amirkalaieh wetland of Guilan Province. We collected samples of fish belonging to Esax litchis (78 pieces), Percalluviatilis (163 pieces), Tinca tinca (105 pieces), Cilurtts glanis (64 pieces), Carasshis ouratus 64 pieces, Bliccia bjuericlia (95 pieces) and Rutilus rutilus (91 pieces) since spring to winter 2001. We found the highest infection rate in Rutilus rutihis (63.33%) while the lowest was seen in gialiis (3.13%). The highest and lowest average infection severity were detected in Rutilus rutilus (13.49±10.82), and Tinca tinca .2±0.45), respectively. The highest parasite abundance was related to Rutilus rutihts (7.04±0.93), and the lowest abundance was observed in Tinca tinca (0.06±0.27). Parasite count range was most in Rutilus rutilus (1-49), and least in Tinca tinca (1-2). Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in species, age, sex and season as related to the infection with the parasite.

Beschreibung: Tinca tincta (Linnaeus. 1958) is a local fish of Anzali lagoon. Study on parasites of this fish was carried out in the college of natural resources of Tehran University. Among collected parasites, Asymphylodora tincae (Modeer.1790) is reported for the first time from Iran. Biometrical characters of the identified parasite have been explained and it was found that 18.75% of the fishes were infected to this parasite. There was not observed any infection in fishes smaller than 14.5 cm length, Meanwhile, the bigger fishes showed more infection and there was a direct relationship between percentage of infection and length of fish.

Beschreibung: Possibility of producing all-female rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) using neomale stock were investigated in Kelardasht hatchery. To do this, we compared the fertilization, hatching rate and growth parameters of progeny in the first year of culture. Histological studies of gonads showed that progenies produced by mating sex-reversed males and normal females were totally female. Eyed-stage egg, hatching and early survival rate in all--female population were 90:69 %, 97.36 %, 91.49 % and in mix sex population were 7024 %, 98.22 %, 90.73 %, respectively, showing no significant differences (P〉0.05). Lack of maturation in the first year cultured fish led to the identical growth parameters in mix sex and all-female groups (P〉0.05). Results showed that use of sex-reversed males can be one of the best and successful methods of producing all-female populations.

Beschreibung: Water hardness and turbidity are important parameters in zooplankton culture, especially for Cladoceran affecting growth and reproductive parameters of the plankton. Effects of water hardness and turbidity on growth and fecundity of the Cladoceran, Moina macrocopa, was investigated by culturing and feeding them on green algae Scenedesmus quadricauda. Experimental treatments for hardness were 0, 20, 40 and 80mg/I as CaCO3 and for turbidity were 0, 20, 40 and 80 NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit). Experiments were carried out in 500m1 flasks with initial density of 15 individuals per flask in randomized complete block design with three replicates. After 10 days, we found that M macrocopa, had the maximum population density (370.5-365.0 individuals per flask), maximum specific growth rate (SGR) (0.35/day), and the shortest population doubling time (Dt) (1.98 days) at 0 and 20mg/1 CaCO3, all with significant differences compared to other treatments (P〈0.05). In contrast, we observed the maximum population density (296-325.5 individuals per flask) at turbidities of 0 and 20 NTU, maximum SGR (0.33/day) and the shortest Dt (2.10 days) at turbidity of 0 NTU, with significant differences compared to other treatments (P〈0.05). The highest fecundity of Al macrocopa was obtained at 213mgil as CaCO3 and turbidity of 0 NTU which significantly differed with other treatments (P〈0.05). Overall, we showed that AI macrocopa in freshwater with hardness less than 20mg11 as CaCO3 and turbidity less than 20 NTU had better growth and fecundity performance. The species can be used to evaluate habitats where water hardness and turbidity is higher. Mass culture of the species based on its growth and reproduction under these optimal conditions could provide suitable zooplanktonic biomass for feeding of fish larvae.

Beschreibung: In order to study on feeding of O. ruber, sampling was carried out monthly from Nov. 96 to Aug. 97, stomach contents of 691 samples were examined of which, 67% were empty and 33% had feed residues. Index of being vacant was higher in males in comparison with females, this index reaches at maximum from Feb. to May for males and in Aug. and Jan. for females. Fish was found in 58% of the stomach, shrimp in 39% and fish and shrimp in 3% of them. During a year feeding intensity did not show a regular pattern and it was weak. Relative importance index for fish and shrimp was 63% and 37% respectively. The main food of immature fish was shrimp, which as they grow shrimp replaced by fish as the main food, so O. ruber is a carnivorous and hunter species.
