Description: One of the compounds of crude oil is Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). This study was conducted in the toxicology laboratory of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Research Center, Bandar Abbas in Spring 2005. Four commercial fishes were exposed to Oppm and 12ppm dosages of crude oil in long-term bioassay examination. After 8 days, exposed fish were freezed and packed seprately and then sent them to IBB (Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics) of Tehran University for determination of PAHs accumulated in their muscle. PAHs measurment was done with GC-FID. In this research, the amount of each compound of PAHs and total PAHs in each dosage was calculated seprately for each species. The result of data analysis shows that the mean accumulation amounts of PAHs (SD± Y. ) in tissues of control Pseudorhombus elevates, Euryglossa orientalis, Siganus javus and S. sutor exposed to Oppm dosage of crude oil were 929.66±251ppb, 1009±-11.7ppb, 1131±-35.0ppb and 487.6±4.0ppb and mean accumulation amounts of PAHs (SDA:i ) in those exposed to 12ppm dosage of crude oil were 3843±13.52ppb, 4272±18.77ppb, 2911±3 5. 5ppb and 2309.6±11.3ppb respectively. According to t-test, we concluded that in all four species the accumulation of crude oil in their muscle tissues between two mentioned dosages were significantit difference (P〈0.05). On the other hand, the high amount of PAHs in the control fishes probebly is due to pollution of Persian Gulf.

Description: This study was conducted to assay the effects of different levels of dietary vitamins C and E on growth indices in Acipenser ruthenus in International Sturgeon Research Institute. Nine diets were supplemented with a combination of 0, 100 and 400mg/kg food vitamin C and 0, 100 and 400mg/kg food vitamin E and were fed to sterlets in 2 replicates during 15 weeks. Two hundreds and seventy sterlets with the average weight of 350.92±14.28g were introduced to 18 tanks (each tank 15 fish). The fish were fed with 3% of body weight per day. The results showed that the highest and the lowest weight gain were in fish fed with diet containing 400mg/kg vitamin C and 0mg/kg vitamin E, respectively. The highest and the lowest Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) were measured in control and diet 100mg/kg vitamin C and 400mg/kg vitamin E. A significant difference was found in FCR between treatments. The lowest and the highest amounts of Growth Rate (GR), Specific Growth Rate (SGR), Body Weight Index (BWI), Food Efficiency (FE) and Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) were found in control and treatment 100mg/kg vitamin C and 400mg/kg vitamin E, respectively. This difference was significant between the treatments. In conclusion vitamins C and E have an important role in enhancement of growth performance and feed efficiency of sterlet.

Description: This study was conducted in order to investigate genetic diversity and population structure of pike perch in the Northern part of Iran. For this purpose, 207 adult pike-perches from four regions of the Caspian Sea watershed (Talesh Coasts, Anzali Wetland, Chaboksar Coasts and Aras Dam) were collected. DNA was extracted and by using 15 pairs of microsatellite primers, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was conducted. DNA bands were analyzed using Biocapt and GenAlex 6 software package. Out of 15 microsatellite primers, 11 loci were produced, of those, 6 loci were polymorphic and 5 were monomorphic. Analysis revealed that the average number of alleles per locus and observed heterozygosities were not statistically significant (P〉0.05) for all four populations. Data indicated an appreciable genetic differentiation, in spite of a low genetic variation, and agreed with the low level of genetic polymorphism already observed for this species in Iran. Deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was obvious in most cases, mostly due to the deficiency of heterozygosities. The highest genetic distance was between Anzali Wetland and Aras Dam populations. This investigation represents the first approach to the knowledge of the genetic variability of Iranian populations using microsatellite markers, and reported results could be of interest for future management and conservation programs of this species in Iran.
