Description: The effects dietary supplementation with Aloe vera extract (AE) on the immunity responses and hematological parameters of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry were evaluated in eight weeks trial. 600 rainbow trout (O. mykiss) fry with an average initial body weight of 13±0.05g were randomly allocated into two treatment groups including placebo-treated group (control) and A. vera extract-treated group, each with three replicates. The fish were hand-fed once a day with diet medicated AE or placebo (70% lactose, 10% starch and 20% talc) at a rate of 1% of feed weight in the first feeding for 8 weeks. At the end of the identical every two weeks (2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks) 24 h after feeding, some of immunological and hematological parameters were analyzed. The results showed that serum total protein, albumin and globulin, respiratory burst activity, phagocytic activity and serum lysozyme activity vary among the two treatment groups which were found to be higher in the AE-treated group (p〈0.05). However, there were no significant differences in none of hematological parameters between two groups. It was concluded that supplementation of AE at a rate of 1% in feed registered higher immunological responses in compared to placebo group. Therefore, supplementation of AE in fish diet would enhance the immunity responses in fish. It may use in fish diets particularly at time of outbreaks.

Description: Considering increase in production of earth ponds in brackish water condition, this research carried out at Bafgh fisheries research station to improve efficiency and production of brackish water cultural earth ponds of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). This study was performed in four 0.5ha earth ponds in two treatments with two replications. Each treatment included two earth ponds so that fish farmed in two culture mediums consisting open medium and %20 enclosure medium of pond (pen medium).for this purpose 20% of earth pond s space separated via a fixed net wall with 15mm in mesh. In this research some main growth equations and economical factors were studied. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, Pierson, Toki, Dankan, Dant analysis and also descriptive statistics. The significant differences were determined in %5 level. Since there was a connection between pen medium with free one, no signs based upon disturbance observed in measured environmental factors in this space. Statistical results indicated a significant increase in %WG, %FE, % SGR, %CF and final biomass in pen medium treatment(p〉0.05). According to economic results, this treatment also differed significantly from open medium treatment about ratio of marketable size production and net income so that yield quantity and production income increased. Therefore, through pen culture in 0.5 ha earth ponds and likely larger ones, utility and production of farm improve and can be a good approach for farmers in order to better exploitation of possibilities and facilities.

Description: The sex reversal technique in fish is widespread in many countries. The development of these techniques is desirable because rainbow trout males reach their gonad maturity earlier compared to the females. Rainbow trout alevins were treated with 17α-methyltestosterone incorporated in the diet (0.5. 1.5, 3, 6 and 10 mg/kg) for 60 days from the beginning of first feeding. Sex was determined at 180 and 680 dpf by sampling fish (n = 20) from each group and examining gross gonadal morphology under a dissecting microscope. Also sex reversal ratio and growth performance were determined in hormone-treated groups. These sex reversed functional males were reared for brood stock until they attained sexual maturity. At the end of experiment, normal rainbow trout eggs were fertilized with the sperms taken from sex reversed males for producing all-female populations. Examination of the results showed that 17α- methyltestosterone was effective in all treatment. The highest sex reversal ratio with 100% was observed in group treated with 0.5, 1.5 and 3 mg/kg 17α- methyltestosterone. The highest live weight ratios were observed in groups fed with 6, 0.5 17α-methyltestosterone and control group. Female progeny produced from the sex reversed males were 100 % in all males that sired offspring. All female trout stocks produced by this method have advantage in rainbow trout culture since the fish is not meant for direct human consumption and is used to generate brood stock, therefore, difference of growth parameters do not influence the success.

Description: This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of live food (Artemia urmiana) and commercial diet in rearing of Oncorhynchus mykiss larvae. Experiment started when larvae were 0.12g in weight. Triplicate groups of fish were offered one of four treatments: (1) a commercial starter food; (2) live Artemia urmiana nauplii (for 3 days); (3) live Artemia urmiana nauplii (for 7 days); and (4) combination of live Artemia nauplii (5% of food) and the commercial starter food. They were fed four times daily starting at the onset of exogenous feeding, for 1 week. After 1 week, the fish of all groups were shifted to the commercial diet for an additional 3-weeks period to determine the impact of any differences in weight of fish. The result of the present study showed that those larvae fed with combination of Artemia nauplli and a commercial starter food grew significantly faster than other groups for 4 weeks. Larvae fed with other composition were similar in length and weight (P〉0.05). Survival rates of the trout larvae ranged 86-96% after 1 week and 67-84% after 4 weeks. Larvae survival after 1 and 4 weeks were significantly higher (P〈0.05) in trout larvae fed only on Artemia nauplii (treatments 2 and 3) than other treatments. The body chemical composition analysis of trout larvae showed only small differences, with the exception of the crude protein and lipid at 4 weeks. The data were analyzed to determine significant differences among treatments by one-way ANOVA. (Statistica v.9, StatSoft Inc.).

Description: A four-week trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of dietary Betaine on growth, survival and resistance to salinity (35ppt), temperature (24 C), hypoxia and high and low pH stresses in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Four levels of Betaine as 0 (control), 0.4% (B0.4), 0.8% (B0.8) and 1.2% (B1.2) were used with three replicates. Forty fish (0.67±0.15g) were stocked in each replicate and fed at 4-4.5% of body weight, five times daily. Results showed that there were significant differences in growth, survival, NPU, PER and FCR between B0.4, B1.2 and control diet (P〈0.05). Carcass analysis showed that there was higher protein in the carcass of fish fed with diet B0.4 compared to control and B1.2 diet. There were no significant differences in carcass protein content between B0.4 and B0.8. Also, no significant differences were found in carcass crude fat, ash and dry matter among different treatments (P〉0.05). Resistances to high and low pH (10.8 & 3.8) and to high temperature (24 C) were significantly better in fish fed with Betaine containing diets compared to the control diet. Resistance to high salinity in B0.4 was significantly better than the control diet and resistance to hypoxia in diet B0.8 was significantly better than the control (P〈0.05). The results showed that dietary supplementation of Betaine (0.4%) have positive effects on growth factors, survival, body composition and resistance to environmental stresses in rainbow trout.
