    Description: Population structure of 2 species in the Caspian Sea (Rutilus frissi kutum and Rutilus rutilus) and 2 species in the Persian Gulf and Oman sea (Rachycentron canadum and Polynemus Plebeius) were studid by using Microsatellite and RAPD. For this 210 specimens of kutum (Khoshkrud, Tonekabon, Gorganrud, Anzali Lagoon and Kura River mouth), 90 (Gorgan Bay, Anzali Lagoon and Volga), 184 of cobia (Bushehr, daier, Bandarabass, bazm, lengeh) and 235 of (Khozestan, Bushehr , Bandarabass and chabahar ) were sampled. Genomic DNA was extracted of fin using the phenol-chloroform .The quantity and quality of DNA from samples were assessed by spectrophptometer and 1% agarose gel electro-phoresis. PCR was carried out using microsatellite and RAPD primers. PCR products were separated on 8% polyacrylamide gels that were stained using silver nitrate. Result showed that in kutum the average of expected and observed heterozygosity was 0.54 and 0.49 respectively. Significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg expectations were observed almost in all of location (P≤0.01, (P≤0.05) ). Using Fst and Rst there was significant difference between locations (P≤0.01). In study of Rutilus rutiluscaspicu the average of expected and observed heterozygosity was 0.5 and 0.7 respectively. Fst didn t show significant difference between iranian locations (P≥ 0.01) but it was Significant between Iranian populations and Russian populations (P≤ 0.05). In cobia the average of expected and observed heterozygosity was 0.655 and 0.874 respectively. Significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg expectations were observed almost in all of location (P ≤0.01, (P≤ 0.05)). Significant differences (P〈0.01) weren't observed between Rst recorded in the same region specimens studied but were observed between Rst recorded in the different region specimens studied. In Polynemus Plebeius, the observed heterozygosity in the Bushehr and Bandar abbas (0.22±0.13) was the highest and in Chabahar the lowest (0.171±0.175).Key word: Population Genetic, Rutilus frissi kutum ,Rutilus rutilus, Caspian Sea, Rachycentron canadum , Polynemus Plebeius, Persian Gulf and Oman sea.

    Description: The second phase of the project entitled Marking Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) using new method and tracking them under 10 m depth in the sea was approved in 2004. This project which terminated in April 2009 was carried out during 2004 to 2008 to track coded wire tagged (CWT) sturgeons under 10 m depth. Among the specimens caught, three were juvenile Persian sturgeon tagged in the first phase (2003) were caught in the second phase (2004). The data related to tagging & capture of sturgeon from 2003 to 2008 is included. Totally, 426325 specimens of Persian sturgeon were tagged in 3 weight classes (〉3g, 3 to 5g and 6 to 10g). Among the population studied, 101500 of them belonged to specimens of 2003 which were tagged by three hatcheries; Shahid Beheshti, Shahid Rajaee & Shahid Marjani and then released into the rivers (Sefidrud, Tajan & Gorganrud) entering the Caspian Sea. During 2004 to 2008, 324825 specimens were tagged in Shahid Beheshti hatchery and released into the Sefidrud River. Gill net were used to catch the tagged Persian sturgeon specimens under 10m depth. During 2003 to 2008, 3616 Persian sturgeon were captured of which 43 juveniles bore CWT. Among the captured CWT sturgeons, 23 specimens belonged to the 6-10 g weight class, 19 specimens belonged to the 3 to 5g weight class and one sturgeon was 〉3g. Based on the results, it can be concluded that higher weight at releasing time can lead to higher survival rate and fisheries returns. Some other factors that influence catch rate of CWT sturgeons are as follows: Catch station (highest catch rates in Persian sturgeon juveniles belonged to Chaboksar station), catch season (highest catch rates were recorded in summer which can be attributed to the release of juveniles), catch depth (in winter highest catch occurred at 5 to 10m depth, in other seasons highest catch number was recorded at 3 to 5m depth. Decrease in water temperature is the reason for higher catch numbers at 5 to 10m depth in winter. Also, mesh size can effect on catch rate (highest catch rate belongs to nets with 22mm mesh size). Statistical analysis of results showed significant difference (p〈0.05) among the various groups studied. Existence of illegal catch nets in the river can also cause mortality of the released juveniles.

    Description: The project investigates the relationship between the biological parameters (phytoplankton, zooplankton, Macrobenthic and the comb jelly Mnemiopsis leidyi) and environmental parameters, nutrients and environmental pollutant (oil, pesticides, heavy metals, and detergents) in water and sediment, at the southern part of Caspian Sea in 2009-2010. Sampling was performed in four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter) and in eight transects perpendicular to the coast in Astara, Anzali, Sefidroud, Tonekabon, Noshahr, Babolsar, Amir Abad and Turkmen. Samples were collected from depths of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 meters and the different layers. The relationship between biological and environmental parameters surveyed through parametric and multivariate methods. Based on the result, the annual mean of environmental parameters and nutrients concentration at euphotic layer such as water temperature, salinity, pH, transparency, DO%, ammonium, nitrate, inorganic nitrogen (DIN), organic nitrogen (DON), inorganic phosphorus (DIP), organic phosphorus (DOP) and soluble silicon (DSi) were 17.82±0.32 (ºC), 11.35±0.10 (g/l), 8.43±0.01 (m), 126±1 (%), 3.76±0.19 (µM), 1.55±0.07 (µM), 4.81±0.13 (µM), 29.88±0.66 (µM), 0.24±0.01 (µM), 0.62±0.02 (µM), 8.22±0.22 (µM), respectively. Meanwhile, annual mean of environmental pollutant such as TPH, OCPs and LAS in water were 12.33±1.76 (µg/l), 2.85.0.90 (µg/l), 0.048±0.003 (mg/l), respectively and for TPH and OCPS in sediment were recorded 33.07±9.36 (µg/g) and 2.64±0.34 (µg/g), respectively. In addition, annual mean of heavy metals such as Ni, Hg, Pb and Cd at water were 4.01±0.01 (µg/l), 0.64±0.01 (µg/l), 15.0±0.1 (µg/l) and ND respectively, and in sediment were obtained 43.77±3.55 (µg/g), 0.13±0.29 (µg/g), 14.14±1.07 (µg/g) and 0.07±0.06 (µg/g), respectively. Abundance annual mean of biological parameters such as phytoplankton, zooplankton and M. leidyi were 143±12 (million cells/m3), 6548±700 (individuals/m3) and 86±10 (individuals /m3) respectively, and for biomass were 548±41 (mg/m3), 60±9 (mg/m3), 5.06±0.65 (g/m3). Abundance and biomass annual mean of macrobenthic were 5970±460 (individuals /m2) and 44±10 (g/m2), respectively. The stratification of water column was strongly based on gradient of water temperature and the rule of salinity was low in this area. According to mono and multivariate statistical analysis, the southern of Caspian Sea experienced four seasons without any overlapping based on environmental parameters and nutrients. In 2009-10, the nitrogen concentration was higher than previous years and showed a decrease in the amount of inorganic phosphorus in the study area. Therefore, the system has been lead to phosphorus limitation. No limitations of the DSi in the Caspian ecosystem had caused the dominance of bacillriophyta phylum during spring, autumn and winter. However in summer (highest seasonal mean temperature) which held the most DIP, the cyanophyta was dominant phylum. During spring and winter, the abundance of zooplankton was maximized and conversely the minimum values observed during summer and autumn with growth increasing of M. leidyi. By now, M.leidyi has been preferred the time with highest temperature or salinity during year. However with considering PCA analysis result and high ability of the organism to adaptation, the M.leidyi will probably to growth and reproduce at lower temperature and salinity than now in this area. Result showed that during summer and autumn only abundance of two of six main zooplankton groups namely Copepoda and Cirripedia were noticeable. The other zooplankton groups were low due to high consumption by different predators or were influenced by environmental factors. The dynamics population of M.leidiy is used to consider as first explanation of the Caspian ecosystem happening, however the interaction of different factors such as temperature, salinity, nutrients and predators determine the dynamic of biological parameters. Based on statistical analysis, feeding behavior of zooplankton species was not same in different seasons and was strongly dependent on the phytoplankton structure (species diversity and population). In other words, the classical boundary of phytoplankton species to, edible and suppressed, non-edible and unaffected and finally non-edible, enhanced species was not possible. Copepoda can act as filter-feeder and raptorial-feeder. So Copepoda compare to Cladocera (generally filter- feeder and sometimes raptorial feeder) and Rotifera (mostly suspension feeding and sometimes raptorial feeder) had more chances and opportunities for the achievement food and it support them for dominanane in all seasons. Anthropogenic and eutrophication affect on the structure and function of plankton community and it reflected on ratio of phyto/zoo biomass. Seasonal increasing of different groups of zooplankton were done through their life cycles in 2009-10, but mostly phytoplankton abundance increased several folds than zooplankton populations. This trend made the ratio of phyto/zoo biomass at 10, 4, and14 during spring, summer and autumn, respectively. In summer, with stratification of water column and dominant of Cyanophyta, grazing pressure by herbivores zooplankton was low. However in winter due to the zooplankton population growth, the ratios reached to 11, and declined with 1.3 folds compare to autumn. Because of severe decreasing of zooplankton biomass in 2009-10 compare to years before introduction of M.leidiy in to the Caspian Sea, the ratio of phyto/zoo biomass increased from "less than" 5 "to more than 10" Top-down control of zooplankton grazing on phytoplankton populations was clear in the years before the introduction of M.leidyi in to the Caspian Sea. But in 2009-10 zooplankton Shannon index reduced and phytoplankton Shannon index increased. In other word higher functional diversity at the lower trophic level (phytoplankton) increased the probability of successful defense against top-down control from zooplankton and phytoplankton abundance controled mainly by nutrients materials (down-top control). Seasonal macrobenthos abundance showed the maximum values in summer and minimum in the cold season (winter). The polychaeta had the highest proportion of abundance compare to others main orders (oligochaeta and crustacea). The dominance of deposit feeder species of polychaeta indicates to high level of organic matter in sediment and trophic status of ecosystem. Result of CCA analysis showed that three dominant orders had different behavior respect to environmental and sediments characteristics. The oligochaeta order was directly related to sediments characteristics (TOM) and inverse relationship with environmental parameters at most seasons. In contrast, polychaeta order was linked with environmental parameters in most seasons.Crustacea order was related to the both of them. Two orders of oligochaeta and crustacea were also related directly to OCPs and inverse relationship with TPH and heavy metals. In the other words, the two orders were more affected by TPH and heavy metals in this area. As a last point, increasing of trophic level from oligotrophic to the meso–eutrophic status, an increase of DO% from 105 percent to 120 percent, phytoplankton Shannon index increasing, zooplankton Shannon index decreasing, entrance of the potentially invasive species to the list of dominant phytoplankton species, increasing of phyto/zooplankton biomass ratio from less than 5 to more than 10 and also increasing of deposit feeder species abundance of macrobenthos are some evidences that indicate to disturbance and stress condition of the Caspian Sea.

    Description: For the first time in research program and species diversity the white legged shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) was introduced in Iran in 2005 by Iranian Fisheries Research Organization. In two recent years two projects was carried out successfully in Hele Research Station and according of these projects study of growth, survival rate and final harvesting of Litopenaeus vannamei impact of 25, 35 and 50 (per/m2) stocking densities was done .Nine 0.4 ha earthen ponds were stocked from 26 June 2006 to 11 November 2006 and the rate of stocking was 100000,140000 and 200000 Pl in 25, 35 and 50 per /m2 respectively. We also carried out daily test of pH, temperature and dissolve oxygen two times per day but transparency, depth and salinity one time per day. The mean weight in 120 days was 17/84±2/6, 16/03±1/9 and14/09±2/3 grams in 25, 35 and 50 per /m2 respectively and highest weight was seen in 25 density. Results demonstrated that there was a significant relation (P〈0.05) between mean weight. The yield were 1745, 2055 and 2425 kg/pond although 4/3, 5/1 and 6 ton/ha in 25, 35 and 50 per /m3 respectively. The maximum and minimum survival rate 97/96 and 88/46 was seen in 25 and 50 per/m2. The minimum FCR 1.43 was seen in 25 per /m2. For economical calculating just by using the cost of larva and feeding indicates that the highest benefit percentage was seen in 25 density. The average of salinity, pH, temperature and dissolve oxygen were 36.1-37 ppt, 8.1, 30.2-30.6 degrees centigrade and 5.9- 6.4 mg/l.

    Description: Caspian brown trout (Salmo trutta caspius) is an important from the point of economy. In this study genetic diversity of (Salmo trutta caspius) was investigated using microsatellite markers from two regions of the Iranian coastline of Southern Caspian Sea (Cheshmeh Kileh River in Mazandaran Province and Karganrud River in Gilan Province). The purpose of this research was the study of Salmo trutta caspius possible populations related to genetic diversity and population structure in the Caspian Sea and introducing the useful genetic markers. For this purpose the number 225 fishes from two Rivers were collected. DNA was extracted and amplified with 16 pairs of microsatellite primers using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The amplified products were loaded on polyacrylamide gels and bands were analyzed using Gene Alex and Pop Gene soft wares. Observed and expected heterozygosity averages were 0.46 ± 0.09 and 0.60 ± 0.10, respectively. According to the results from this study, Genetic polymorphism has been seen in this population.

    Description: The aim of this study was to find the best location for establishment of rainbow trout culture and hatcheries farms on Zayanderood’s river region in Charmahal and Bakhtiyari province. This survey carried out over ten station along Zayanderood’s river. The result of physical and chemical analysis showd that the annual average of air temperature varied from 9.5oc o 10oc wehre the pH annual average value were between 7.5 and 8.8. the dissolve oxygen concentration in stations except in rainbow trout farm effluent were above 10 mg/l. the other chemical , pollutant as well as pesticides levels were under the limiting concentration for rainbow trout culture and Hatcheries activity . The plankton survey showed that the Bacillurophyta were the dominant group of phytoplankton where protozoa constituted the most abundant group of zooplankton the Benthic organisms sensitive to pollutant in particular Epirus were dominant group in all stations . In regard to fishes presence in river , five species of Ciprinidae , one species from Balitoridae and one species from salmonidae families were identified . The capacity for development of rainbow trout culture for tow phase period in Zayanderood’s river region with respect to self purification potential (self purification potential were determined from the oxidation of the effluent of the only active trout farm of the river region), minimum of 10 L/s water requirement for production of trout in concrete canal and pond system and 1L/S water need for production in semi circular closed system were estimated to be 5202 metric tons.

    Description: Many chemical constituents are removed from the ocean by attachment to settling particles, a process referred to as “scavenging.” Radioisotopes of thorium, a highly particle-reactive element, have been used extensively to study scavenging in the ocean. However, this process is complicated by the highly variable chemical composition and concentration of particles in oceanic waters. This thesis focuses on understanding the cycling of thorium as affected by particle concentration and particle composition in the North Atlantic. This objective is addressed using (i) the distributions 228,230,234Th, their radioactive parents, particle composition, and bulk particle concentration, as measured or estimated along the GEOTRACES North Atlantic Transect (GA03) and (ii) a model for the reversible exchange of thorium with particles. Model parameters are either estimated by inversion (chapter 2-4), or prescribed in order to simulate 230Th in a circulation model (chapter 5). The major findings of this thesis follow. In chapters 2 and 3, I find that the rate parameters of the reversible exchange model show systematic variations along GA03. In particular, 𝑘1, the apparent first-order rate "constant" of Th adsorption onto particles, generally presents maxima in the mesopelagic zone and minima below. A positive correlation between 𝑘1 and bulk particle concentration is found, consistent with the notion that the specific rate at which a metal in solution attaches to particles increases with the number of surface sites available for adsorption. In chapter 4, I show that Mn (oxyhydr)oxides and biogenic particles most strongly influence 𝑘1 west of the Mauritanian upwelling, but that biogenic particles dominate 𝑘1 in this region. In chapter 5, I find that dissolved 230Th data are best represented by a model that assumes enhanced values of 𝑘1 near the seafloor. Collectively, my findings suggest that spatial variations in Th radioisotope activities observed in the North Atlantic reflect at least partly variations in the rate at which Th is removed from the water column.

    Description: Nowadays, Litopenaeus vannamei are the most important species of farmed penaeidae shrimp in the world that is rapidly replacing native species in areas aquaculture. Due to demand increase for this species culture, shrimp displacement to different areas may be associated with some potential pathogens transferred to new areas farmed. Therefore, in this study were prepared bi-osecurity conditions for specific disease-free production of L. vannamei. Thereafter, three populations (Molokaei, High health and mix of Molokaei and High health) of the shrimp various reserves were detected base on origin and genetic indexes such as: observed heterozygosity, expected heterozygosity, allele frequency, coefficient inbreeding, genetic differentiation, genetic distance and genetic identity. On the other hand, epidemiological studies indicate non pathogens (viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic) recognition of different populations selected in the quarantine salon. The bioassay results showed that the average weight and length of the populations of High health and Mix significantly greater than was a population of Molokaei. The shrimp populations were stocked in fiberglass tank (five ton) and were kept separated in the quarantine salon. During maintenance shrimp of populations in the quarantine salon were evaluated living and non-living pathogens with PCR, microbiology and biochemical methods. There is not any pathogens detection from shrimp populations stocking in the quarantine salon, so the shrimps were carried over to pond for broodstock culture of specific pathogenic free.

    Description: Estimation of Artemia resources on Uromieh Lake during (years2002-2003) showed huge reduction of Artemia cysts and biomass stocks than the previous years. Reduction of average annual precipitation in west Azerbaijan province during last 6 years than previous years from 32centimeter to 21centimeter has reduced the annual entered waters from the lakes basin rivers into the lake from(3.5-4.0)billion cubic meters to(1.8)billion cubic meters. During this period the entered fresh water in to the lake has been reduced, however the evaporation rate from 5750 square kilometer of Lake Surface has been continued at 3to4billion cubic meters per year. In spite of the fact that there are more than 5 billion tons salts on Uromieh Lake and that about 2 billion cubic meters of lake water is decreased annually due to negative balance between entered water and evaporation rate from Lake Surface, the water salinity on the lake has increased From 220 g/l in 1999 up to high saturated level atthe present. Increasing salinity on lake water up to high saturated level has caused to salt precipitate on lakes bottom and the Ionic exchange between lake water and beds natural precipitates that necessary to provide needed ions to photosynthesis was interrupted, so that the quality and quantity of primary productions on the lake has decreased and the lake has change to oligotrophic condition and in some seasons the turbidity of the lake has increased up to 5 meters. Above mentioned integrated factors have reduced Artemia stocks on lake during a few last years and this has resulted in stopping the cysts and biomass harvesting.

    Description: This study was conducted to spatio-temporal fluctuation and distribution of phosphorous and nitrogen species, total organic carbone and some environmental parameters at suface sediments in the southern of Caspian Sea. In current study, 48 samples were collected from four stations (Bandar Anzali, Tonekabon, Bandar Nowshahr and Bandar Amirabad) and three dephths (5, 10 and 20 meter) during four seasons in 2013-2014. Results of this study showed that annual mean of Adsorbed-P, Fe-P, Al-P, Bioava.-P, Ca-P, TIP, Rese.-P and TP were obtained 6.68±0.63, 60.90±2.44, 24.94±2.39, 94.52±3.62, 1868±36, 1963±37, 87.51±9.52 and 2050±38 µg/g.dw, respectively. Result also showed that inorganic phophotous was maximum during different seasons, however, percent mean of residue-P which containe organic compounds and non-degrediable compounds, was less that 5 percent. Percent of Ca-P was higher than 90, whereas Bioava.-P was less that 10 percent. The order of different forms of phosphorous were registered Ca-P〉Org-P〉Fe-P〉Al-P〉Adsorbed-P.Annual mean of NH4/N, NO3/N, TIN, TON and TN were observed 2.56±0.27, 0.89±0.12, 3.52±0.26, 6.06±0.27 and 9.57±0.32µg/g.dw respectively. Annual percent of TON was two folds than TIN and NH4/N was also three times than NO3/N. In addition, mean of Fe, Al, Ca, Eh and TOC% were obtained 25.39±0.65, 18.76±0.68, 60.15±1.50 mg/g.dw and 67.02±0.68, 1.11±0.09, respectively. Maximum mean of carbon (1152±171), nitrogen (0.87±0.05) and phoporous (74±23) µM/g were observed in fall, winter and summer, recpectively. Also, maximum ratios of TOC:TP (16.8±2.3) and TOC:TN (2378±363) were obtained in fall season. As a conclusion, mian role of Adsorbed-P, Fe-P and Al-P adsorbed and desorbed were temperature, Eh and pH, respectively. Results of this study showed that TOC:TN was very high which represented to excitance of organic matter with almost non-degrediable. Whereas, TOC:TP was low which showed that organic phophoros was not related to proteins and phospholipids therefore sources of org-P were belong to other compounds.

    Description: Today, regarding the development of sturgeon rearing and importance of the aquatic health, it is necessary to apply natural material to combat pathogenic factors. Therefore, using medicinal plants is an excellent alternative instead of chemical material to control pathogenic factors. As, protozoan ectoparasites are one of the most important factors which have threatened sturgeon life, so this study carried out to determine lethal concentration of garlic (Allium sativum) and Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extracts on fingerlings of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) that the efficiency and the effective dose of theses extracts determined for controlling protozoan parasite naming Trichodina. Study on lethal concentration (LC50) of Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extract on fingerlings of Persian sturgeon showed that during 96h and 1h, the LC50 was 766.65 and 9933.44 mg/L, respectively. Also, LC50 of garlic extract during 96h and 1h was 1279.97 and 12624.08 mg/L, respectively. During experiments, all of physicochemical factors such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrite, nitrate, ammonium, electric conductivity and hardness measured in different treatments. Study on the pictures taken out from sections of gill, liver and skin of Persian sturgeon fingerlings (Acipenser persicus) showed that in different doses of garlic (Allium sativum) and Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extracts the LC50 was examined and some microscopic damages observed. They are hyperemia, adhesion in the gill filaments, cell necrosis, melanin pigments in gill primary filaments, cloudy swelling of hepatocytes, liver necrosis, hyperemia and increase in melanin pigments and melano macrophage centers in liver, moreover raise in melanofor and melanin, increase in mucous cells and lymphocyte also necrosis in epidermis observed in skin. Investigation on white blood cells (WBC) showed significant difference in lymphocyte and neutrophil numbers in different treatments (P〈0.05). But, there was no significant difference in monocyte and eosinophil numbers in different treatments (P〉0.05). During the experiments of LC50 for garlic and Zataria multiflora extracts, some abnormal behaviors such as increased irritability, abnormal swimming, severe contraction of muscles and scoliosis observed in high concentrations. Then, considering the results of the mentioned experiments, the study conducted on effective concentrations (EC50) of these extracts to combat Trichodina protozoan parasite. In this study the concentration of Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extract for final experiments was 200 to 600 mg/L. Therefore, it was determined for the first time that Zataria multiflora extract can be effective to combat Trichodina. The EC50 of Zataria multiflora extract for 1h bath is 437.62mg/L. Moreover, the concentration of garlic hydroalchoholic extract for final experiments set at 50 to 400 mg/L and the EC50 of garlic extract is 172.58 mg/L for 1h. In experiments of EC50, the differential counts of white blood cells (WBC) showed no significant difference in numbers of lymphocytes, monocytes and neutrophils in different treatments (P〉0.05). But there is significant difference in numbers of eosinophils in different treatments (P〈0.05). During the experiments of EC50 for garlic and Zataria multiflora extracts, no abnormal behavior observed in Persian sturgeon fingerlings which indicates that these extracts have not created stressful and irritable conditions. The final effective time for these extracts to completely eradicate Trichodina by garlic hydroalchoholic extract is less than 3h in 172.58 mg/L (EC50). But, for Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extract, it is less than 5h in 437.62 mg/L. The results showed that in all treatments of garlic hydroalchoholic extract, Trichodina eradicated completely from gill and skin of Persian sturgeon fingerlings during 9h. This time for Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extract is 12h. The results of this study showed that garlic and Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extracts with EC50 of 172.58 and 437.62mg/L, have categorized in low toxicity materials which are suitable to be replaced with chemical materials. This investigation showed that the therapeutic index of garlic hydroalchoholic extract is 73.15 that found to be more than Zataria multiflora hydroalchoholic extract (22.69). So, regarding this index, garlic hydroalchoholic extract is more healthful. Considering the results of this study which indicates the health of these herbal extracts, applying medicinal herbs can be emphasized as a suitable material to be replaced with chemical ones.

    Description: The Kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum, is one of the most important bony fishes in Iranian coastal of Caspian Sea. Its harvest range is between 9000-10000 tons in a year, nearly 60% of the income of Bony fish fishery produced by kutum fishery. The stock of this species reduced drastically in 1982 and the catch slumped to the less than 250 tons in a year. Kutum spawning grounds deterioration, illegal catch, lack of restocking program were the main cause of the decline. This Spices in nature comprised by two distinct form, autumn and spring form. It is worth to be mentioned, by the effect of Caspian Sea Bony fishes Research Center s experts in 1983, artificial spawning and releasing the fries to the sea were commenced and the catch steadily improved. But all activities concerning restocking of kutum concentrated in spring form, as at present about 260 million its fries are released into sea for restocking by Iranian Fisheries Organization, but for above reasons and lack of restocking program, the populations of autumn form gravely shrinked and neared to be extinct. Therefore, to enhance the biodiversity and boost fishers livelihood of kutum in Caspian Sea this project implemented by cooperation of Iranian Fisheries Organization (IFRO) and Caspian Environment Program (CEP) in Aquaculture Institute (Inland Waters). In this project, brooders caught from Anzali lagoon and maintained in two different condition, include of floating cages in Anzali lagoon and earthen ponds in Sefidrud Fisheries Research Station. The results showed that there weren t significant differences between two maintenance statuses in maturation period and other reproductive characteristics of brooders. The ratio of male to female was 1 to 1.4. Minimum and maximum weight measured 1450 to 3100 g (with average of 1850 g) in female and 670 to 1900 g (with average of 1165 g) in male, respectively. The first natural spawning of brooders occurred in the end of January in temperature of 8 till 10 °C in concrete ponds. Also, some of maintained brooders in earthen ponds spawned in February. The average number of absolute, function and relative fecundity determined 88565 16809, 73805 14008 and 48670 12056, respectively. For artificial spawning, male and female brooders injected by pituitary gland with dose of 2-3 and 4-5 mg/kg body weight, respectively. Approximately, 10 and 8 present of female were over-ripe and immature in March (artificial spawning time), respectively. More than 59 % of injected female brooders induced to spawning in first stage after 10-12 hours and 13 % of them in twice stage and 7-8 hours after first stage. And also, 27.6% of females didn’t positive response to injection. Dry method used for eggs fecundity and incubation period lasted 7- 10 days in 14-16 °C. In totally, eggs fertilization were more than 95% and the average of eggs fertilization percent in throughout of period measured more than 92.7 6 %. Eyed eggs appearance occurred 3 days after fecundity and its mean was 92.7 15.1%. Larvae after yolk sac absorption feed with dry milk for 4-5 days and then introduced into fertilized earthen ponds (500 m2 and equipped to aerators) in intensive condition and fed with micro pellet food for 3-4 month. In finally, more than 1.8 millions fries of 1-2 g and some more than 5 g produced and released into Anzali lagoon to its restocking for first time. It is expected that continuing of restocking process of autumn form kutum by Iranian Fisheries Organization eventuate to population increasing of this form in Caspian Sea in future.

    Description: In this survey, hydrology and hydrobiologycal studies in the northern part of the Oman Sea and Strait of Hormuz within the Iranian waters were conducted during 2007 and 2009.The project was implemented using Ferdous research vessel.The sampling area included the whole stretch of the Iranian waters along the northern part of the Oman Sea from the northeast of the Iranian marine border of 30 miles Bay of Chabahar to the mouth of the Hormuz Strait in Hormuzgan province. Along this stretch 10 equally distributed transects at a distance of 30 miles away from each other were designated, 4 main sampling stations at a distance of 10 miles from one another were fixed at each transect. Sampling was conducted twice a year (spring and autumn 2007 and 2009). According to achieved results; we can point out to the following outlines below: permanent thermocline exists annually in this body of water; where only the point of start, and the fracture width of thermocline layer; alter with alteration of seasons. Horizontal and vertical distribution of electrical conductivities, obey exactly from thermal degree structure.Level of salinity increase from east to west, but it decrease; from surface to deeper layers. In deeper regions, especially in the midway east of the Oman Sea; the level of salinity in the deeper waters from 150-300m, there is a considerable increase observed in salinity, due to very high salinity waters of The Persian Gulf; that are entering the Sea of Oman, via the Striate of Hormouz from the bottom; where they are having their effect following the whole length of the Sea of Oman; through their path. The level of water density from offshore to onshore, and from surface to deeper levels increase in such a way that. The level of Chlorophyll-a in surface waters, in the northeastern midway; is higher than the northwestern midway of the Sea of Oman, and it decreases from inshore to offshore waters, but its vertical distribution; has caused somehow in a way, that the highest distribution and concentration of chlorophyll-a; to be formed in deeper layers, between about 10-40m depths. Then by the increase in water depth, its concentration decreases drastically; reaching zero in magnitude. Concentration of dissolved oxygen is higher in spring in comparison to that of autumn, and the highest level is achieved in water layers located at 10-40m depth (where the level of chlorophyll-a is higher). In addition to which, that its vertical structure; shows the existence of a permanent oxycline layer at this region, in a way that; by seasonal alterations (similar to that of thermocline layer), only the point of start and that of the thickness of oxycline layer changes.pH level decreased from water surface, and its vertical alteration trend; obeyed to that of the same for temperature and chlorophyll-a vertical structure, especially for dissolved oxygen parameter, where the maximum decrease was recorded coinciding with formation of oxycline layer.Nutrient levels increased; at surface water layers from offshore to inshore, and from west to east, for the same body of water. In addition to that, concentration of nutrients in autumn (after monsoon); were more than that of, spring season (before monsoon), where; concentration of their vertical structure increase from water surface toward deeper sections. In this survey six phylum of phytoplankton including in Bacillariophyta (88) Pyrophyta (111), Cyanophyta (6), Chropmophyta (2), Euglenaphyta and silicoflagellate (1) were identified. A result showed that density decreased in most transects from inshore toward sea and maximum density was in photic layer (0-25m). Phytoplankton densities (without Cochlodinium density) in post-monsoon were recorded higher than pre-monsoon, furthermore phytoplankton density in 2009 was more than 2007(6073±1038) Species richness was indexed in the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon 2007 (0.337-0.519), (0.296-0.396) respectively and to (0.967-1.525), (1.407-1.531) for 2009. Zooplankton population in this study is characterized by eight phyla, eight classes, 15 orders, 35 families and 78 genus. In 2007, the pre-monsoon percentage of groups were frequently as following: Copepoda with stages of Nauplius and Copepeditide were 78%, Ciliphora 8%, Sarcomastigophora 4% and Hemichordata 6%. In post-monsoon order of frequency Copepoda 80%, Ciliophora 6%, Coelenterata 5%. Copepoda was the most abundant group of zooplankton.In 2009, The pre-monsoon Copepoda (82%), Cilillophora(9%), Sacromastigophora(4%) and Hemichordata (2%) in post-monsoon Copepoda(70%), Ciliophora (20%),Sarcomastigophora(4%) and Hemichordat (2%) dominante group were respectively. The static result showed significance betweendifferent transects and layers.We were recorded 31 ichthyoplankton families with different density and distribution during 2 years. Among benthic invertebrate polychaete with average 800 ind-2 and then amphipods and gastropods were the most abundance.Yearly density of macrobenthos showed polychaete with the average of 500 ind.-2 in 2007 and 1000 ind.-2 in 2009 was the most abundance . Macrobenthos density in postmonsoon was more than premonsoon.p〈0.05. An increasing and decreasing in density and biodiversity was obtain from coast to depth respectively p〈0.05.There was no significant different between macrobenthos density from Hormoz strait to Golf of Guiter.p〉0.05.There was a negative regression between macrobentos density and depth(p〈0.05) and positive rsgresion between macrobenthos and oxygen concentration and temperature.(p〈0.05).There was also a significant relationship between macrobenthos ,coppepda and polychaete density with organic carbon.p〈0.05.Bimass changed from strait to Golf and coast to depth increasingly.p〈0.05. The results of the measurement of heavy metals in water and Sea bed showed that the Concentration of heavy metals in surface layers in waters of the northern half of Oman Sea and Strait of Hormuz in spring (pre-monsoon) is more than autumn (after monsoon), and Degree of pollution in these areas are low compared to the global scale, Also, The results of the degree of contamination of sediments across the northern half of Oman Sea and comparison Global indicators of environmental quality assessment, it was found that the degree of contamination in the area in spring and autumn are low pollution. Comparison of the TPAH concentration of in Iranian waters of the Gulf of Oman, with other parts of the world indicate that degree of pollution of the waters in the spring 86 in the other seasons too low to medium level is low; but the degree of contamination in sediments, both in spring and in the autumn is much less; It means that the current risk on behalf of these contaminants, does not threaten the fish and benthos. The results of the risk assessment (THQ) of heavy metals in consumer, for yields Sangsar fish and fish Gish showed that the risk for both all the heavy metals, significantly lower than the one(1〈) and This means that urban communities in the province does not present any danger of feeling threatened.

    Description: To reveal the fisheries productivity and to get the maximum possible exploitations of the running water resources, existing potentials for aquaculture in Shit and Kordabad rivers in Tarom of Zanjan province were surveyed in a one year round study. In this way 4 and 3 sampling site were respectively selected in Shit and Kordabad rivers and benthic macroinvertebrates and water samples were collected and analyzed at least two times a season and fish fauna were also sampled and studied only two times during the period. All the measured water quality characteristics(such as O2, water temperature, pH, nutrients, NH3, BOD5 and . . . ) were within the normal range suggested for the cold water fish culture. In both rivers no significant differences (p≤95%) were detected for physicochemical parameters within the study sites except for electrical conductivity and total hardness which differed in the firs and last station. Depletion of Agricultural run off and residual from the adjacent farmlands and municipal drainages into the water body of the rivers, were certainly effective in these changes However none of water quality parameters exceed the maximum permitted level for aquaculture. According to the benthic macroinvertebrates study 38 family of 12 taxa and 26 family of the 11 taxa were identified in Shit and Kordabad rivers respectively, most of them belonged to the aquatic insect larvae of the sensitive groups. Community structure indices and Hilsenhof family level biotic index proved a "very good" to "good" water quality criteria for the study sites in both rivers .One fish species in Shit and five species (4 of them were endemic) were identified in Kordabad river. Despite acceptable water quality in Shit river, some inhibiting factors such as adjacent farmlands and dense agricultural land use, high slope of river valley in most region which cause rare suitable lands for locating aquaculture sites, very limited access to road and electricity supply and lack of acceptability to manipulate or divert river water for fish farms, by the local people, are the major constrains for constructing trout farms in Shit river. However constructing a 15 mt capacity rainbow trout farm is possible at first 2 kilometers of the upstream where the water quality and quantity are relatively better and there are some lands with low slope and access to road and electricity supply. Kordabad river has a similar criteria and water quality and quantity at upstream is desirable for rainbow trout culture. The first 2 kilometer of this river is capable of constructing trout farms in some non cultivated lands. Moreover the Kordabad natural dam reservoir is available to conduct its water for further demands. In addition a total of 75mt rainbow trout production in the form of 2 or 3 separate site is possible in this river. Even though the local climate particularly in Kordabad river is acceptable for carp fishes, however land limitations, soil texture and the high volume of water demands, make warm water fishes commercial production impossible.

    Description: This project has done with the collaboration of Bnyad mostazafan (Ran agriculture and livestock Co.) with goal of increasing efficiency of warm water fishes( Chinese Carps) production. The fish were purchased from China (B. G.) in two parts in Jun 2014. The fish then transferred and quarantined to the ponds in Aghili’s farm In Azadshar using container trucks. The biological parameters of fish such as growth rate were measured during the experiment. The growth rate were obtained 9, 16, 16 and 14% for common carp, big head, silver carp and grass carp, respectively. The result shows that production of experimental ponds (ponds 2 and 4) were obtained 3473 kg/ha while the control ponds produced 2700kg/ha 1n 1393. In general the production were increased 31% when comparing with average of local production and raised 26% when comparing with average production of the entire country in 1393. In this study showed that by importing the F1 generation of Chinese carp, it can expected that production will be increased to 1.5 times of current carrying capacity as long as using aeration system and appropriate management.

    Description: The Blooming due to the some species of phytoplanktons especially Dynoflagellates has made some problems for water ecosystems and aquaculture. In this study, the density of phytoplanktons specially Cochlodinium sp. and also environmental factors such as temperature, pH, dissolved Oxygen, and transparency were recorded two weekly in 18 stations of Hormozgan province, Iran in order to monitoring of the possibility of phytoplankton blooming. During six months monitoring, the target phytoplankton, Cochlodinium sp was not observed in shrimp farms. But, other phytoplanktons and zooplanktons were observed as follow: 13 genus of phytoplankton and six genuses of zooplanktons has found in ponds, main water channel and sea. The diatoms with 10 genuses had the highest abundance and Dynoflagellates with 3 genuses had the lowest abundance and blue-green phytoplankton with one genus was in lowest group. Totally, diatoms with 77%, Dynoflagellate with 15% and blue-green alga with 8% abundance were the main populations of planktons in the studied area.

    Description: Bahmanshir River derived from Karoon River and finally connected to Arvandrood that passed from Abadan and then flow into the Persian Gulf. Because of low slope of Bahmanshir River from Ahwaz to Abadan, tidal flow intrusion long distance in Bahmanshir, Arvandrood and Karoon. Sampling from physical and chemical parameters and phytoplankton were done by Nansen sampler, benthic sampling, heavy metals, TOM and grain size sampling were done by grab. Samplings of zooplankton were done by filtering 20 liters water in 100μ mesh size net from middepth of river water. Fish sampling were done by gill net, Trawl net, sobor gill net and stable net with 20, 27, 30, 35, 39, 40 mesh sizes. Physical and Chemical parameters were more similar from station one to four but there were some differences with station five in mouth of river in the sea. Nitrate showed same variations in all studied stations and maximum concentration of nitrite was observed in station five in June and July. The highest value of Total hardness and salinity were observed in station five. The range of pH was 7.2 to 8.5. Cd and Zn were found to be the lowest and the highest concentration in sediments respectively. Annual average following as: Cd 〈 Co 〈 Cu 〈 Pb = Ni 〈 Zn According to ISQGs and river water quality standards, chemical and physical parameters and sediment heavy metals were in acceptable range. Only Cd and Zn values were found higher than acceptable ranges. No significant difference was observed between stations for heavy metal concentrations. In general, 44 phytoplankton species were identified Bacillariophycea (77.74%), Cyanophycea( 10.39%), (Chlorophycae 8.88%) and (Dinophycea 2.99%) were the dominant phytoplankton classes in this study. Shannon index have shown the highest species diversity during one year in January and the lowest was in fourth station. 110 Phytoplankton species composition in Bahmanshir have shown that Bacillariophycea became higher from river to estuary and among zooplanktons Rotifera and Tintinida were the most frequent groups in estuary region with 83% of total abundance. Copepoda, Rotifera and Protozoa (especially Tintinida) were the most frequent zooplankton groups. The highest frequency of zooplankton with 40.6% was observed in the station one in Khoramshahr. 16 macrobenthic groups were identified during the study. Polycheate worms, Isopoda and Oligocheate worms have shown the 83.5% , 5.4% and 3% frequencies respectively. 43 fish species that included in 26 families were identified. Cyprinidae with 12 species and Clupeidae with 2 species were the highest and the lowest species frequencies respectively. Among the identified fish species Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Barbus esocinus, Crrassius auratus were exotic species and rest of them were local species. Seasonal changes were affected directly by quantitative and qualitative variations in Karoon water and planktonic species composition in estuary region were affected by tidal flow and advances of seawater. Cyprinidae and Barbus geniuses were the most frequent fresh water fish species. Migrant species like Johnius dussumeieri, Acanthophagus latus, Hilsa ilisha were captured in most stations and months, presence of these species is important for reproduction. Fish species of this river have different diet that included soft sediments, planktons, benthos, macroscopic plants, small fishes and shrimps.

    Description: The coastal ecosystem, which represents the boundary in between pelagic province and land, is a complex one. Since most probes of physico-chemical characteristic in coastal ecosystem are unstable, it affects the distribution and abundance of the biota in it. The aim of this project was to determine Hydro-biological studies on the important creeks of East Hormozgan for shrimp culture pond purpose. Three creeks was selected on east coast namely as (Azini, Jask and Khalasi) and three stations in every creek which situated at the mouth, middle and end of the creek. The work in the project is incorporated in living and nonliving characteristics; the sampling period was in four seasons of 1384. Water characteristic like temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D), salinity, carbon dioxide(Co2), nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, phosphate, silicate, total dissolved solid (T.D.S), total suspended particle,(T.S.S) and hydrogen sulphide (H2s). The recorded mean of these parameters in Azini creek (25.5±1.05 c), (8.11±0.13), (7.21±0.82 mg/l), (2.3±0.73 mg/l), (38.07± 0.86 ppt), (12.4±1.8 mg/l), (3.12±2.8 μg/l), (0.27±0.19 μg/l), (1.39±0.99 μg/l), (0.27±0.22 μg/l),(9.78±5.36 μg/l), (28.2±2.1 g/l), (37.6±11 mg/l),(0.1±0.07 mg/l), Jask creek (27.5±1.1 c ), (7.96±0.33), (6.79±0.77 mg/l), (2.9±0.96 mg/l), (38.77± 1.68 ppt), (10.8±3.4 mg/l), (3.51±2.2μg/l), (0.2±0.15 μg/l), (2.13±1.48 μg/l), (0.55±0.42 μg/l), (13±6.3 μg/l), (38.8±1.9 g/l), (37.1±13 mg/l),(0.32±0.28 mg/l), and Khalasi creek (28.2±1.9 c), (8.04±0.16), (6.9±0.48 mg/l), (2.22±1.03 mg/l), (38.79± 1.46 ppt), (12 ±1.1 mg/l), (3.08±1.4 μg/l), (0.2±0.14 μg/l), (1.41±0.65 μg/l), (0.45±0.39 μg/l), (13.3±4.2 μg/l), (38±3.5 g/l), (35.3±9 mg/l),(0.08±0.04 mg/l), respectively. The range of Total Organic Matter and Total Phosphor of sediment in Azini creek recorded as (4.99-10.57), (0.4-1.73), Jask creek (2.57-5.89),(0.0-1.99) and Khalasi creek (5.23-6.89), (0.59-1.09) respectively. Comparison of concentration mean between three creek shows there was significant difference between Temprature , pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Salinity, free Carbon dioxide, Silicate, Phytoplankton and Zooplankton (P〈0.05. Phytoplankton with (31 genera from 3 families),(34genera from 4 families) and (38 genera from 3 families) were recorded in Azini, Jask and Khalasi creeks respectively. Zooplankton with 12, 12, and 10 group was present in Azini, Jask and Khalasi creeks. Macrofauna with (54 species from 38 families and 20 Order), (35species from 25 families and 17 Order) and (51 149 species from 39 families and 20 Order) were recorded from Azini, Jask and Khalasi creeks respectively. Minimum and Maximum density of phytoplankton in Azini, Jask and Khalasi creeks were (63-22914), (68-94320) and (280-5523) in liter, Zooplankton (193048-226337), (36750-713753) and (32625-489532) in m3 and Macrofauna (6400-11357), (8375-24800), and (900-12473) in m2, Total Count (90-3400), (70-22150), and (0-2250) in one gram sediment and Total Vibrio (43-2400), (15-2400) and (25-460) in one gram sediment respectively.

    Description: In order to come up with the responsible fishing pattern, there was a need to identify some of the biological characteristics and population dynamic parameters of yellowfin tuna, skipjack and longtail tuna in the Persian Gulf and Oman sea. Occurrence of empty stomach was high in all the specimens obtained from the gill net fisheries. Purple back flying squid was the most dominant prey species observed in the yellowfin tuna study (61% in males and 57% in females). The length of maturity (Lm50%) for yellowfin tuna was estimated 76 cm , 62.5 cm skipjack and 62.5 cm longtail tuna. Length range of skipjack was from 31-100 cm and bony fishes were the most dominant prey species observed in the skipjack. The monthly gonad somatic index was driven higher values after June which could be indicated as spawning period. The catch per unit of effort of three purse seiners (Azadegan 1, 2, 3) was compared in 1998- 2000. The species composition was 47% yellowfin tuna, 51% long tail tuna and 2% skipjack.

    Description: In this study genetic characterization of Barbus brachycephalus caspius, Lucioperca lucioperca , Rutilus rutilus caspius , Rutilus frisi kutum and Salmo trutta caspius were examined by 611 samples from regions in East (Guilan province), Middle (Mazandaran province) and west (Golestan province) of southen part of the Caspian Sea. DNA was extracted from fin tissue by phenol - chlorophorm method and then PCR was performed using special primers. Statistical analysis of data was performed by Gene Alex, MEGA and Arlequin softwares. - Rutilus frisi kutum: The results showed that nine of ten primers were polymorphic loci. The mean of effective and observed alleles were 7.26±0.49 and 4.37± 0.35 respectively. Also, the mean of expected and observed heterozygosity were 0.55±0.03 and 0.69±0.02 respectively. Of the analysed loci, all of the samples (except Tajan and samples in LOC4 and Gilan samples in MFW2) possible tests were found to deviate significantly from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium(P〈0.05). The genetic diversity was significantly different between samples of Golestan and Gilan, Golestan and sefidrood, Golestan and Tajan, Mazandaran and sefidrood and Gilan and Tajan (p〈0.05). - Rutilus rutilus caspius: Sevan variable microsatellite loci were used to investigate genetic diversity and population structure of R. rutilus caspius. The mean of effective and observed alleles were 5.75±0.30 and 4.76± 0.25 respectively. Also, the mean of expected and observed heterozygosity were 0.58±0.18 and 0.73±0.01 respectively. All of the samples (except golestan samples in LOC3) possible tests were found to deviate significantly from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium(P〈0.05). Of the analysed loci, the genetic divergence was significantly different between samples of Golestan and Gilan, Gilan and Mazandaran and Gilan with Gorgan bay (p〈0.05). - Salmo trutta caspius: Genetic characterization of S. trutta caspius was comparatively analyzed with mitochondrial DNA sequencing that 45 haplotypes was observed. The average of expected and observed heterozygosity were 0.61±0.35 and 0.33±0.12 respectively. The maximum of haplotype diversity (0.089±0.04) was in sardabrood river and the minimum was in Astara river (0.81±0.02). Also, the maximum of nucleotid diversity was 0.13±0.07 in Sardabrood and Chalos rivers and the minimum was 0.11±0.06 in Tonekabon river. In addition, the maximum and minimum of FST was 0.08 and 0.01 respectively. Of the analysed loci, the genetic divergence was significantly different between samples of Astara and Chalos, Astara and Tonekabon, Chalos and Karganrood and Tonekabon with Kaganrood (p〈0.05). - Barbus brachycephalus caspius: The size of amplified fragment was 800 bp in all of the samples. There were 24 variable loci and 12 haplotype that the maximum of haplotype was in Gilan area (8 haplotype). The average of expected and observed heterozygosity were 0.003±0.35 and 0.42±0.12 respectively. The results showed that the haplotype diversity was significantly different between samples of Sefidrood whit other samples (p〈0.05). In addition The maximum of nocleotid diversity was 0.005±0.003 in Sefidrood and minimum was 0.001± 0.001 in Tajan river. Of the analysed loci, the genetic divergence was significantly different between samples of Gilan and Tajan, Mazandaran and Sefidrood (p〈0.05). - Lucioperca lucioperca: The genetic diversity of L. lucioperca was analyzed by using microsatellite markers. Seven primer sequences available for were tested to amplify microsatellite loci that all of loci were polymorphic. The mean of effective and observed alleles were 6.14±0.45 and 3.88±0.34 respectively. Also, the mean of expected and observed heterozygosity were 0.662±0.03 and 0.70±0.02 respectively. The most of samples in PflaL6 , PflaL7and PflaL8 loci possible tests were found to deviate significantly from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (P〈0.05). The maximum of FST was 0.30 between Gilan and Mazandaran samples that there were minimum gene flow (8.18). The genetic divergence was significantly different between samples of Gilan and Mazandaran and Golestan whit mazandaran (p〈0.05).

    Description: The study of fluctuation of large pelagic stock (yellowfin tuna, skipjack tuna, longtail tuna, Narrow-barred Spanish mackerel ) in order to optimum exploitation in the Persian Gulf & Oman sea This study was carried out from 2005-07 in order to acquire some biological characteristics and population dynamic parameters for stock management and responsible fisheries. Thunnus albacares (yellowfin tuna), katsuwonus pelamis (skipjack tuna), Thunnus tonggol (longtail tuna) and scomberomorus commerson (Narrow- barred Spanish mackerel) were sampled. In total, length frequency of 9345 specimens of yellowfin tuna were analyzed. Size range was 37-172 cm. Teleost fishes were the most dominant prey species observed in this study (42%), Occurrence of Potunus Pelagicus was found to be the second (28%).Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis (22%), Natosquilla (5%) and octopus (3%) also were identified in the gut content of the yellowfin tuna. Length of maturity (50%) of yellow fin tuna was estimated 77.2 cm and spawning season was started from May. 8443 specimens of skipjack with size range of 32-90 cm were sampled. 48% of food items were teleost fishes. Squid and shrimp were also identified. Spawning season was begun from June. Growth parameters & fishing mortalities of yellow fin tuna and skipjack tuna were also estimated. Size range if longtail tuna was from 26-125cm Length infinity was estimated 132.3 cm with growth parameter of 0.35 per year. In total 10451 specimens of narrow- barred Spanish mackerel were sampled. Size range was from 20-164 cm. Teleost fishes were the most dominant prey species observed in the study (91.3%). Crustaceans (0.6%) and Indian squid (0.2%) also were identified in the specimens. Length maturity (50%) was estimated 83.6cm.

    Description: This project was conducted in imam Khomeini mariculture research state from October 2010 to June 2013 to compare reproductive performance between wild and domesticated Sobaity seabream broodstocks. In 3 years wild broodstocks did not spawn in 5 and 10 fiberglass and concrete tanks but domesticated broodstocks spontaneously spawned from February to March. In the first year domesticated broodstock in ratio of 3 females to 6 males allotted in 10 mt concrete tanks in triplicate . the about 2776000 eggs produced from 9 females and 18 males but further heavy mortality occurred because of winter shock syndrome and suppression of immunity system. Mean temperature, salinity and PH in incubation period was 16.5 ˚C (range between16-18 ˚C ), 45ppt, 8.5 respectively. Mean floating eggs and hatch percent was 15.5% and 8.9% and about 19000 larvae produced. In the second year domesticated broodstock in ratio of 9 females to 23 males allotted in 5 mt fiberglass tanks in triplicate .about 17540000 eggs acquired from 27 female and 69 male broodstocks. Mean temperature, salinity and PH in culture period was 24.8 ˚C(range between20-28. 3 ˚C) , 47.5 ppt, 8.4 respectively. Mean floating eggs and hatch percent was 58.94% and 84% and about 8640000 larvae produced and stocking density was 10-30 larvae per liter. After 61 days mean production and survival were 503.3 (range between 140-1220) larvae per cubic meter and 5.3% (range between 0.47 – 12.2 %) respectively. Final mean weight of fry was 2.6 gr. In the third year domesticated broodstock in ratio of 3 females to 6 males allotted in 5 mt fiberglass tanks in triplicate. about 6570000 eggs acquired from 9 female and 18 male brood stocks. Mean temperature, salinity and PH in culture period was 23.9 ˚C(range between 19.5-28.4 ˚C) , 45, 7.6 respectively. Mean floating eggs and hatch percent was 54.7% and 81.6% and about 2889800 larvae produced and stocking density was 10-30 larvae per liter. At the end of 87 and 89 days of husbandry the mean production and survival were 359 (range from 300 to 397) larvae per cubic meter and 2.7% (range between 1.32 – 3.8 %) respectively. Final mean weight of fry was 3.5 gram and Larvaeculture in the last 2 years carried out in 5 cubic meters fiberglass tanks. It seems to domesticated broodstocks because of spontaneous spawning, long spawning period, more brood stocks and possibility of reusing them in the next year are very economical for propagation than wild broodstocks.

    Description: The dynamics of Artemia population of Urmia Lake was investigated to provide the technical information, which is necessary for sustainable management of Artemia in Urmia Lake. The study covers different aspects comprising of monthly estimation of Artemia biomass and cysts, annual evaporation of Lake water, average precipitation in catchment areas and also water turbidity in Urmia Lake, during the 2004-2007. Results showed dramatic decline in the Artemia population compared to the previous years, Reduction of average annual precipitation and increased water usage in Urmia Lake catchment area during last decade, has reduced the annual quantities of flowing waters to the Lake. Although the estimated trophic state index (TSI) which indicated the mesotrophic condition during the studied period, therefore, exceeding salinity to higher than the saturated level had adverse effects on phytoplankton growth. Furthermore, nutrient transfer by the rivers to the lake caused to produce of halophilic bacteria and other obtrusive protozoas which has created very unsuitable condition for Artemia grazing. These events confirm the role of salinity as a major environmental factor that affects Artemia resources in their natural habitats. It can be proposed that a method to manage the lake ecosystem and its Artemia population through construction dividers, such as dikes between the north and south parts of the lake to reduce the salinity at some parts of Urmia Lake will be applicable.

    Description: 500000 juvenile Indian majour carps (Labeo rohita,Cirhinus merigala, Catla catla) imported (2004) and transferred to the earthen ponds in Shahid Ansari Carp Breeding Center , In order to assess the viability of rearing under the climatic condition of north part of Iran and also achieve some growth parameters from the larval stage to market size.The fry with 300 mg weight, were released in to 8 ponds.specimens were separated to tree experimental categories: 1= (Labeo rohita) , 2= (Cirhinus merigala) , 3= (Catla catla). fishes were fed with artificial food and also with the natural products of the ponds which were enriched with organic fertilizers, after being equally stocked in the ponds .During the experiment, oxygen level ,PH, turbidity, and temperature were measured . Monthly fry samples were taken, for weight and length biometrical analysis and also determination of the weight gain percentage, average daily growth rate, specific growth rate. Results have indicated adaptations and considerable growth in this species, with an increase from the initial weight of 300 mg to an average of 13.5±1.6 mg in 50 days period until the end of November for fingerlings. Also the average weight of growing phase (second year of production) was 647g. For Labeo rohita ,420 g. for Cirhinus merigala and 734g. For Catla catla. The special growth rate(SGR)in Roho was 4.51 %.and 3.9 % for merigal and6.2 % for Catla while for Chinees carps SGR was 4.9, 6.7, 7.6 and 5.8 for silver carp,grass carp, common carp and big head respectively. Results revealed that the Indian majour carps compatibility with the condition in Gilan province was succesfull and the combination of species and optimization of their compatibility were remind for further studies.

    Description: This thesis documents the origin, distribution, and fate of methane and several of its isotopic forms on Earth. Using observational, experimental, and theoretical approaches, I illustrate how the relative abundances of 12CH4, 13CH4, 12CH3D, and 13CH3D record the formation, transport, and breakdown of methane in selected settings. Chapter 2 reports precise determinations of 13CH3D, a “clumped” isotopologue of methane, in samples collected from various settings representing many of the major sources and reservoirs of methane on Earth. The results show that the information encoded by the abundance of 13CH3D enables differentiation of methane generated by microbial, thermogenic, and abiogenic processes. A strong correlation between clumped- and hydrogen-isotope signatures in microbial methane is identified and quantitatively linked to the availability of H2 and the reversibility of microbially-mediated methanogenesis in the environment. Determination of 13CH3D in combination with hydrogen-isotope ratios of methane and water provides a sensitive indicator of the extent of C–H bond equilibration, enables fingerprinting of methane-generating mechanisms, and in some cases, supplies direct constraints for locating the waters from which migrated gases were sourced. Chapter 3 applies this concept to constrain the origin of methane in hydrothermal fluids from sediment-poor vent fields hosted in mafic and ultramafic rocks on slow- and ultraslow-spreading mid-ocean ridges. The data support a hypogene model whereby methane forms abiotically within plutonic rocks of the oceanic crust at temperatures above ca. 300 C during respeciation of magmatic volatiles, and is subsequently extracted during active, convective hydrothermal circulation. Chapter 4 presents the results of culture experiments in which methane is oxidized in the presence of O2 by the bacterium Methylococcus capsulatus strain Bath. The results show that the clumped isotopologue abundances of partially-oxidized methane can be predicted from knowledge of 13C/12C and D/H isotope fractionation factors alone.

    Description: Salt marshes are physically, chemically, and biologically dynamic environments found globally at temperate latitudes. Tidal creeks and marshtop ponds may expand at the expense of productive grass-covered marsh platform. It is therefore important to understand the present magnitude and drivers of production and respiration in these submerged environments in order to evaluate the future role of salt marshes as a carbon sink. This thesis describes new methods to apply the triple oxygen isotope tracer of photosynthetic production in a salt marsh. Additionally, noble gases are applied to constrain air-water exchange processes which affect metabolism tracers. These stable, natural abundance tracers complement traditional techniques for measuring metabolism. In particular, they highlight the potential importance of daytime oxygen sinks besides aerobic respiration, such as rising bubbles. In tidal creeks, increasing nutrients may increase both production and respiration, without any apparent change in the net metabolism. In ponds, daytime production and respiration are also tightly coupled, but there is high background respiration regardless of changes in daytime production. Both tidal creeks and ponds have higher respiration rates and lower production rates than the marsh platform, suggesting that expansion of these submerged environments could limit the ability of salt marshes to sequester carbon.
