Abstract The results of the general acid-base catalysis of the α-glucose mutarotation have been used by the author to establish a relation between hydrogen bond entropies during dissociation and the acid dissociation constant (ionization constant) and base constant (reciprocal ionization constant), resp. This relation depends only on the acid or its anion, contrary toBrønsteds general α-glucose mutarotation acid-base catalysis equation representing the special dependence of catalysis coefficients of this reaction on the ionization constant. The author by means of his kinetic-thermodynamic method provides unequivocal evidence, that the sum ofBrønsteds coefficients, i.e. α+β, is unity. The limits of validity ofBrønsteds acid-base catalysis α-glucose mutarotation equation are demonstrated.
Notes:
