Description: Author(s): B. Sacépé, J. Seidemann, M. Ovadia, I. Tamir, D. Shahar, C. Chapelier, C. Strunk, and B. A. Piot We conducted a systematic study of the disorder dependence of the termination of superconductivity, at high magnetic fields ( B ) , of amorphous indium oxide films. Our lower disorder films show conventional behavior where superconductivity is terminated with a transition to a metallic state at a well-… [Phys. Rev. B 91, 220508(R)] Published Fri Jun 26, 2015

Description: Author(s): A. Doron, I. Tamir, S. Mitra, G. Zeltzer, M. Ovadia, and D. Shahar In certain disordered superconductors, upon increasing the magnetic field, superconductivity terminates with a direct transition into an insulating phase. This phase is comprised of localized Cooper pairs and is termed a Cooper-pair insulator. The current-voltage characteristics measured in this ins… [Phys. Rev. Description: A secreted form of a class I major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecule was denatured and renatured in vitro in the absence of peptide. The resulting empty class I heterodimer was immunologically reactive and structurally similar to a heterodimer renatured in the presence of an appropriate restricted peptide. Thermal stability profiles indicated that the two forms of heterodimer differed in their resistance to denaturation by heat but that a significant portion of the empty class I heterodimers had a native conformation at physiological temperatures. Free energies calculated from these data gave a direct measure of the stabilization of the class I MHC molecule that resulted from peptide binding.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Fahnestock, M L -- Tamir, I -- Narhi, L -- Bjorkman, P J -- AI28931/AI/NIAID NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1992 Dec 4;258(5088):1658-62.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Division of Biology, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena 91125.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1360705" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: CLP1 was the first mammalian RNA kinase to be identified. However, determining its in vivo function has been elusive. Here we generated kinase-dead Clp1 (Clp1(K/K)) mice that show a progressive loss of spinal motor neurons associated with axonal degeneration in the peripheral nerves and denervation of neuromuscular junctions, resulting in impaired motor function, muscle weakness, paralysis and fatal respiratory failure. Transgenic rescue experiments show that CLP1 functions in motor neurons. Mechanistically, loss of CLP1 activity results in accumulation of a novel set of small RNA fragments, derived from aberrant processing of tyrosine pre-transfer RNA. These tRNA fragments sensitize cells to oxidative-stress-induced p53 (also known as TRP53) activation and p53-dependent cell death. Genetic inactivation of p53 rescues Clp1(K/K) mice from the motor neuron loss, muscle denervation and respiratory failure. Our experiments uncover a mechanistic link between tRNA processing, formation of a new RNA species and progressive loss of lower motor neurons regulated by p53.〈br /〉〈br /〉〈a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3674495/" target="_blank"〉〈img src="https://static.pubmed.gov/portal/portal3rc.fcgi/4089621/img/3977009" border="0"〉〈/a〉   〈a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3674495/" target="_blank"〉This paper as free author manuscript - peer-reviewed and accepted for publication〈/a〉〈br /〉〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Hanada, Toshikatsu -- Weitzer, Stefan -- Mair, Barbara -- Bernreuther, Christian -- Wainger, Brian J -- Ichida, Justin -- Hanada, Reiko -- Orthofer, Michael -- Cronin, Shane J -- Komnenovic, Vukoslav -- Minis, Adi -- Sato, Fuminori -- Mimata, Hiromitsu -- Yoshimura, Akihiko -- Tamir, Ido -- Rainer, Johannes -- Kofler, Reinhard -- Yaron, Avraham -- Eggan, Kevin C -- Woolf, Clifford J -- Glatzel, Markus -- Herbst, Ruth -- Martinez, Javier -- Penninger, Josef M -- K99NS077435-01A1/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- NS038253/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- P 19223/Austrian Science Fund FWF/Austria -- P 21667/Austrian Science Fund FWF/Austria -- R00 NS077435/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- R01 NS038253/NS/NINDS NIH HHS/ -- Howard Hughes Medical Institute/ -- England -- Nature. 2013 Mar 28;495(7442):474-80. doi: 10.1038/nature11923. Description: Author(s): Youcheng Wang, I. Tamir, D. Shahar, and N. P. Armitage It is observed that many thin superconducting films with not too high disorder level (generally R N / □ 〈 2000     Ω ) placed in magnetic field show an anomalous metallic phase where the resistance is low but still finite as temperature goes to zero. Here we report in weakly disordered amorphous InO x thin... [Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 167002] Published Fri Apr 20, 2018

Description: Successful social interactions depend on people’s ability to predict others’ future actions and emotions. People possess many mechanisms for perceiving others’ current emotional states, but how might they use this information to predict others’ future states? We hypothesized that people might capitalize on an overlooked aspect of affective experience: current...

Description: Author(s): I. Tamir, A. Doron, T. Levinson, F. Gorniaczyk, G. C. Tewari, and D. Shahar The magnetic field driven superconductor-to-insulator transition in thin films is theoretically understood in terms of the notion of vortex-charge duality symmetry. The manifestation of such symmetry is the exchange of roles of current and voltage between the superconductor and the insulator. While ... [Phys. Rev. B 96, 104513] Published Wed Sep 27, 2017
