Note: Anlässlich des 25-jährigen Bestehens des Deutschen GeoForschungsZentrums auf dem Telegrafenberg in Potsdam zeichnet eine Ausstellung im Haus der Brandenburgisch-Preußischen Geschichte die Entwicklung der Geowissenschaften in den letzten 150 Jahren nach. Der Begleitband ist mit historischem und aktuellem Bildmaterial ausgestattet, von der Ansiedlung der Geowissenschaften auf dem Telegrafenberg bis zum internationalen Wissenschaftspark des 21. Jahrhunderts, der bis heute durch seine Lage und Bauten unverwechselbar ist. In drei Teilen dokumentiert er den Weg vom bewaldeten Hügel, dem 1832 ein hölzerner Telegrafenmast seinen Namen verlieh, über die Geburtsstunde der modernen Seismologie bis hin zum Forschungszentrum mit zahlreichen Geoinstituten über den Dächern Potsdams. Mehr als 40 Autoren skizzieren, wie sich die Geowissenschaften verändert haben: Wurden vor 150 Jahren im »Institut für höhere Meßkunde« auf dem Telegrafenberg die Daten der Erdvermessung ausgewertet, so konzipieren Geowissenschaftler heute Satellitenmissionen und untersuchen polare Eismassen. So unterschiedlich die Forschungsmethoden auch sein mögen – damals wie heute reisen die Geoforscher um die Welt, um Messungen unseres Planeten durchzuführen.
