The analytical model predicts accurately the shift of T 0 values estimated using fracture toughness data measured with deep-notch SE(B) specimens and C(T) specimens, and the shift of T 0 values from deep and shallow cracked SE(B) specimens.

    Notizen: Abstract This study examines crack front length and constraint loss effects on cleavage fracture toughness in ferritic steels at temperatures in the ductile-to-brittle transition region. A local approach for fracture at the micro-scale of the material based on the Weibull stress is coupled with very detailed three-dimensional models of deep-notch bend specimens. A new non-dimensional function g(M) derived from the Weibull stress density describes the overall constraint level in a specimen. This function remains identical for all geometrically similar specimens regardless of their absolute sizes, and thus provides a computationally simple approach to construct (three-dimensional) fracture driving force curves σw vs. J, for each absolute size of interest. Proposed modifications of the conventional, two-parameter Weibull stress expression for cumulative failure probability introduce a new threshold parameter σw−min. This parameter has a simple calibration procedure requiring no additional experimental data. The use of a toughness scaling model including σw−min〉0 increases the deformation level at which the CVN size specimen loses constraint compared to a 1T SE(B) specimen, which improves the agreement of computational predictions and experimental estimations. Finally the effects of specimen size and constraint loss on the cleavage fracture reference temperature T 0 as determined using the new standard ASTM E1921 are investigated using Monte Carlo simulation together with the new toughness scaling model.

    Notizen: Abstract NOx are main toxic by-products in the effluent gas whendecomposing volatile organic compounds in air by a packed-bed plasmareactor. Several types of materials such as 13X zeolite, BaTiO3and Pd/Pt catalysts have been selected to be packed in the reactor, andmethane decomposition and NOx by-products in discharged gases areinvestigated at different range of reaction temperature and dischargeenergy density at atmospheric pressure. The ratios of methane decompositionpercentage/NOx concentration are used to assess these packed bedmaterials and reaction conditions. The results show that usingPd/γ-Al2O3 with lower percentage Pd as packedbed, and discharging with lower discharge density at higher reactiontemperature can reduce NOx output effectively and greatly improveperformance of the reactor.

    Notizen: Abstract Rhizobium etli strain TAL182 and R. leguminosarum bv phaseoli strain 8002, both of which produce melanin pigment, were tested for their nodulation competitiveness on beans by paired inoculation with two strains which do not produce melanin: R. tropici strain CIAT899 and Rhizobium sp. strain TAL1145. An assay was developed to distinguish nodules formed by the melanin-producing and non-producing strains. Strain TAL182 had discrete competitive superiority over CIAT899 and TAL1145 for nodulation of beans. Nodulation competitiveness was not correlated with the ability to produce melanin pigment or the host range of the Rhizobium strains tested.

    Notizen: Abstract The ferroelectric and dielectric properties of ferroelectromagnet Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PFN) ceramics and thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) have been investigated systematically. PFN ceramics experienced a para-ferroelectric transition and a para-antiferromagnetic transition at 380 K and 145 K, respectively. At room temperature, it has an electrical remnant polarization of 11.5 μC/cm2 and a coercive field of 4.04 kV/cm. The dielectric behaviors show characteristics of diffusive phase transition at a wide temperature range around 380 K. Anomalies in the dielectric constant and loss tangent have been observed near the Neel temperature of 145 K, indicating a coupling between the ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic orders in PFN ceramics. At room temperature, the PFN films exhibited a remnant electric polarization of 7.4 μC/cm2, a coercive field of 10.5 kV/cm, and a dielectric constant of 486 at frequency of 10 kHz, indicating their potential applications in memory devices.

    Notizen: Abstract Since 1992 the solar tower telescope of Nanjing University (118°51′ E, 32°03′ N) as well as its multichannel solar spectrograph, originally established in 1982, have been reconstructed and a two-channel imaging spectrograph has been operated successfully. The apertures of the coelostat and the secondary mirror are both 60 cm. The spherical objective mirror, having an aperture of 43 cm and a focal length of 2170 cm, produces a solar image of 20 cm diameter. Two auxiliary telescopes using a small fraction of the coelostat's aperture were set up for guiding and Hα monochromatic monitoring. A multichannel spectrograph can be operated in six wavebands simultaneously. A CCD imaging spectrograph can be used for data acquisition at Hα and Caii K line wavebands automatically and simultaneously. The instrument consists of two CCD cameras, an image processor (SR-151), a personal computer, and a mechanical scanning device. The principal characteristics of the instruments are described. Some observational results are presented as examples.

    Notizen: Abstract The Weibull stress model for cleavage fracture of ferritic steels requires calibration of two micromechanics parameters $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ . Notched tensile bars, often used for such calibrations at lower-shelf temperatures, do not fracture in the transition region without extensive plasticity and prior ductile tearing. However, deep-notch bend and compact tension specimens tested in the transition region can provide toughness values under essentially small-scale yielding (SSY) conditions to support Weibull stress calibrations. We show analytically, and demonstrate numerically, that a nonuniqueness arises in the calibrated values, i.e., many pairs of $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ provide equally good correlation of critical Weibull stress values with the distribution of measured (SSY) fracture toughness values. This work proposes a new calibration scheme to find $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ which uses toughness values measured under both low and high constraint conditions at the crack front. The new procedure reveals a strong sensitivity to m and provides the necessary micromechanical values to conduct defect assessments of flawed structural components operating at or near the calibration temperature in the transition region. Results of a parameter study illustrate the expected values of m for a typical range of material flow properties and toughness levels. A specific calibration is carried out for a mild structural steel (ASTM A36).

    Beschreibung: A data sample of events from proton-proton collisions with at least two jets, and two isolated same-sign or three or more charged leptons, is studied in a search for signatures of new physics phenomena. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of $$137{,{ext {fb}}^{-1}} $$137fb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of $$13,{ext {TeV}} $$13TeV, collected in 2016–2018 by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed using a total of 168 signal regions defined using several kinematic variables. The properties of the events are found to be consistent with the expectations from standard model processes. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are set on cross sections for the pair production of gluinos or squarks for various decay scenarios in the context of supersymmetric models conserving or violating R parity. The observed lower mass limits are as large as $$2.1,{ext {TeV}} $$2.1TeV for gluinos and $$0.9,{ext {TeV}} $$0.9TeV for top and bottom squarks. To facilitate reinterpretations, model-independent limits are provided in a set of simplified signal regions.
