Description: A defect in Klotho gene expression in mice accelerates the degeneration of multiple age-sensitive traits. Here, we show that overexpression of Klotho in mice extends life span. Klotho protein functions as a circulating hormone that binds to a cell-surface receptor and represses intracellular signals of insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1), an evolutionarily conserved mechanism for extending life span. Alleviation of aging-like phenotypes in Klotho-deficient mice was observed by perturbing insulin and IGF1 signaling, suggesting that Klotho-mediated inhibition of insulin and IGF1 signaling contributes to its anti-aging properties. Klotho protein may function as an anti-aging hormone in mammals.〈br /〉〈br /〉〈a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2536606/" target="_blank"〉〈img src="https://static.pubmed.gov/portal/portal3rc.fcgi/4089621/img/3977009" border="0"〉〈/a〉   〈a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2536606/" target="_blank"〉This paper as free author manuscript - peer-reviewed and accepted for publication〈/a〉〈br /〉〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Kurosu, Hiroshi -- Yamamoto, Masaya -- Clark, Jeremy D -- Pastor, Johanne V -- Nandi, Animesh -- Gurnani, Prem -- McGuinness, Owen P -- Chikuda, Hirotaka -- Yamaguchi, Masayuki -- Kawaguchi, Hiroshi -- Shimomura, Iichiro -- Takayama, Yoshiharu -- Herz, Joachim -- Kahn, C Ronald -- Rosenblatt, Kevin P -- Kuro-o, Makoto -- R01 AG019712/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R01 AG019712-05/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R01 AG025326/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R01 AG025326-03/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R01AG19712/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R01AG25326/AG/NIA NIH HHS/ -- R37 HL063762/HL/NHLBI NIH HHS/ -- U24 DK059637/DK/NIDDK NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 2005 Sep 16;309(5742):1829-33. Description: The low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP) has been proposed to mediate in concert with the LDL receptor (LDLR) the uptake of dietary lipoproteins into the hepatocytes. This hypothesis was tested by transient inactivation of LRP in vivo. Receptor-associated protein (RAP), a dominant negative regulator of LRP function, was transferred by an adenoviral vector to the livers of mice lacking LDLR (LDLR-/-). The inactivation of LRP by RAP was associated with a marked accumulation of chylomicron remnants in LDLR-/- mice and to a lesser degree in normal mice, suggesting that both LDLR and LRP are involved in remnant clearance.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Willnow, T E -- Sheng, Z -- Ishibashi, S -- Herz, J -- HL20948/HL/NHLBI NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1994 Jun 3;264(5164):1471-4.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Department of Molecular Genetics, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas 75235.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7515194" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Notes: A study has been made of the polymeric product obtained by exposure to γ-rays of carefully dried eutectic mixtures of styrene and β-propiolactone which were sealed in vacuum and maintained at a few degrees below the melting point. No copolymer was formed, only a mixture of homopolymers. However, evidence was obtained which supports an earlier claim that a copolymer is formed by γ-irradiation of a solid mixture of acrylonitrile and β-propiolac tone.

Description / Table of Contents: Multiblock copolymers involving crystallizable blocks of poly(1-dimethylsilyl-4-dimethylethylenesilyl benzene) and blocks of either polystyrene (PS) or poly(ethyleneoxide) (PEO) were prepared by hydrosilylation reaction between α,ω-difunctional precursor polymers. The organosilicic precursor was fitted at both chain-ends with dimethylsilane functions. The reactive end groups of the PS or PEO precursors were silvinylic functions attached to the polymer chains through chemical groups of the same nature as the monomer unit of the crystallizable block. In this case, and under adequate stoichiometric conditions the hydrosilylation reaction between functional chain ends is possible and yields multiblock copolymers containing 6 to 10 blocks.

Notes: Spectra of polarized light scattered from model networks of polystyrene swollen by benzene have been measured by optical mixing spectroscopy. Various series of networks of different functionalities and different lengths of the elastic chain elements have been investigated. A theoretical expression for the characteristic time constant of fluctuations has been derived from rubber elasticity theory. An analysis of the experimental results within the framework of this theory allows determination of the frictional constants of the gels.
