Beschreibung: Interferon-alpha 1 from Escherichia coli transformed with a hybrid plasmid containing a human leukocyte complementary DNA insert, induces resistance to virus in appropriate target cells. It also shares the following properties with natural leukocyte interferon (IFN). (i) It enhances natural killing activity of human lymphocytes, (ii) it enhances antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, (iii) it suppresses antigen- and mitogen-induced leukocyte migration inhibition, (iv) it inhibits growth of IFN-sensitive Burkitt lymphoma cells. Since these activities are exhibited by a cloned protein species, they are due to IFN itself and not to other human proteins.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Masucci, M G -- Szigeti, R -- Klein, E -- Klein, G -- Gruest, J -- Montagnier, L -- Taira, H -- Hall, A -- Nagata, S -- Weissmann, C -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1980 Sep 19;209(4463):1431-5.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6158096" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Beschreibung: Mouse and human atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) genes have been cloned and their nucleotide sequences determined. Each ANF gene consists of three coding blocks separated by two intervening sequences. The 5' flanking sequences and those encoding proANF are highly conserved between the two species, while the intervening sequences and 3' untranslated regions are not. The conserved sequences 5' of the gene may play an important role in the regulation of ANF gene expression.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Seidman, C E -- Bloch, K D -- Klein, K A -- Smith, J A -- Seidman, J G -- AI-18436/AI/NIAID NIH HHS/ -- HL-070208/HL/NHLBI NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1984 Dec 7;226(4679):1206-9.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6542248" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Beschreibung: The need to fully heparinize patients undergoing extracorporeal therapy often leads to hemorrhagic complications. To enable heparinization of only the extracorporeal circuit, a blood filter containing immobilized heparinase was developed. This filter degraded 99 percent of heparin's anticoagulant activity within minutes in both canine and human blood.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Langer, R -- Linhardt, R J -- Hoffberg, S -- Larsen, A K -- Cooney, C L -- Tapper, D -- Klein, M -- GM 25810/GM/NIGMS NIH HHS/ -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1982 Jul 16;217(4556):261-3.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7089564" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Beschreibung: Daytime administration of 5-hydroxytryptophan to sheep elevated serum melatonin more than sevenfold within 2 hours. This suggests that administration of 5-hydroxytryptophan could be used as the basis of a clinical test of pineal function and that melatonin might mediate some clinical effects of 5-hydroxytryptophan.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Namboodiri, M A -- Sugden, D -- Klein, D C -- Mefford, I N -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1983 Aug 12;221(4611):659-61.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6867734" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Beschreibung: Growth of head-fold-stage rat embryos cultured with human serum for 48 hours was enhanced by supplementation with glucose. Embryo growth (protein and DNA contents) varied with the source of the serum. Serum from 16 of 19 untreated subjects produced normal embryos. Serum from five subjects undergoing cancer chemotherapy and six subjects receiving anticonvulsants was either lethal or teratogenic.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Chatot, C L -- Klein, N W -- Piatek, J -- Pierro, L J -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1980 Mar 28;207(4438):1471-3.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7361097" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉
