Abstract Forty-nine infra-red spectra (1600 to 400cm−1) of rocks, minerals and products of industrial importance have been determined. These include mica, asbestos, apatite, calcite, feldspar, kyanite, slags, fly ash, etc. They have been classified into several groups based on structural parameters and chemical groups with pertinent discussions relating to the spectral characteristics of these materials for rapid identification and characterization.
