Notes: Sputtered Mo-Permalloy thin film is expected to possess great potentiality in soft magnetic properties which can be realized chiefly by controlling sputtering conditions. The effects of sputtering parameters, such as argon pressure, bias voltage, and preheating temperature, on the magnetic properties, of FeNiMo sputtered films have been investigated. The magnetic anisotropy field Hk was found to decrease with the raising preheating temperature while coercivity Hc presented the contrary trend. High effective permeability can be acquired at low argon pressure, adequate preheating temperature, and bias voltage. Close relationships among effective permeability, anisotropy field, magnetostriction coefficient, and half-height width Δθ50 were found. Annealing is available for increasing effective permeability.

Notes: We have prepared Fe-doped InP epilayers by chemical beam epitaxy using a thermal atomic Fe beam. Epilayers having high resistivities ((approximately-greater-than)107 Ω cm) were obtained over a wide range of Fe concentrations. Resistivities as high as 1.3×108 Ω cm have been obtained. Such resistivity is almost equal to the theoretical value of 1.37×108 Ω cm that we estimate for intrinsic InP. The current-voltage characteristics exhibit both an ohmic and a space-charge-limited regime, and are consistent with the theory of single-carrier injection into a trap-free insulator. Pinning of the Fermi level near midgap by Fe-related deep levels is the mechanism by which the epilayer is made highly resistive. At room temperature, these traps are apparently deep enough that the carrier emission rate is negligible.

Notes: The optical absorption coefficient in ultrathin (∼10 A(ring)) hydrogenated amorphous germanium (a-Ge:H) layers deposited on hydrogenated amorphous silicon layers was determined by in situ reflectivity measurements. The decrease in the absorption coefficient in the ultrathin a-Ge:H layers, compared to that of thick films, is explained by an upward shift in the conduction band edge due to quantum confinement of electrons with effective mass of 0.4m0.

Notes: The main factors that influence the deposition efficiency and forming quality are the stateof in-flight particles, which are directly effected by process parameter during plasma spray forming. In this study, plasma spraying of ZrO2 powder was employed according to the method of orthogonalexperiments, and the relationship between spray parameters and characteristics of in-flight particles, which were monitored by an optical monitoring system of CCD camera, were investigated. Radialbasis function (RBF) neural network model had been designed to forecast the temperature andvelocity of in-flight particles, and optimized spray parameter. The comparison of the simulationswith the experimental results shows the validity of the model

Notes: The quality of coatings is directly influenced by the flattening and solidification of manyindividual molten droplets in plasma spray forming, so many properties such as thermal, electrical, mechanical etc are strongly linked to the real contact between the “piled-up” splats. The research onthe transient temperature of impacting droplets and the heat transfer between droplets and substrateplays an important role in improving the quality of coatings. Because of complexity and high cost oftemperature measurement systems for molten droplet during flattening in plasma spray forming atpresent, this paper presents a new kind of simulation measurement system for transient temperature ofspray droplets when impacting on substrate based on LabVIEW, which could display the real-timechanges of the temperature by waveform graph. Finally, the experiments were carried out on Pb-Snalloy molten droplets to reveal the close connection between the impacting droplets temperaturechanges and the coatings quality, and the heat transfer between droplets and substrate was discussed

Notes: The three different structures of titanium oxide film were prepared: (1) The commercial pure titanium was treated with heating in air at 700°C for half hour and gotten a dense rutile film on titanium (HS Samples); (2) The commercial pure titanium was treated by chemically treating and gotten a layer of amorphous titania gel on the Ti surface (TS Samples); (3) After chemically treating, the samples were heated in air at 700 °C for half hour, and gotten nano-particles coalescedmicroporous titanium oxide (rutile) film on titanium surface (XS sample). The dense rutile and amorphous titania gel did not induce apatite formation on their surfaces in SBF solution for 48 hours, whereas the nano-particles coalesced microporous rutile structure induced apatite formation on their surfaces. Mechanical test and histological examination were investigated after the samples implanted in dogs limbs for 3 months. The results of push-out test are 12.96, 29.48 and 35.83 MPa respectively for HS, TS and XS sample. Histological results showed that TS sample and XS sample contacted the bone directly, without any intervening fibrous tissue, and there was a fibrous tissue layer between the bone and HS samples

Notes: In order to improve corrosion resistance of galvanized steel, a novel cerium-phytic acidpassivation treatment was studied. The process of cerium-phytic acid passivation on galvanizedsteel was optimized. The corrosion resistance of cerium-phytic passivated samples was tested bydropping test and weight loss test. The electrochemical behaviors of cerium, phytic acid andcerium-phytic acid passivated samples in 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution were investigated by polarizationcurve and AC impendence spectroscopy, respectively. The corrosion equivalent circuit establishedaccording to impedance characteristics. The corrosion current density of the samples were treatedby cerium and phytic acid was 8.52 × 10-5 A/cm2 and 9.39 × 10-5 A/cm2, respectively, However, thesamples were passivated by cerium-phytic acid the corrosion current density decreased to 1.76 ×10-5 A/cm2, respectively. The test results showed that cerium-phytic acid passivated samplesexhibited better corrosion resistance than that of cerium or phytic acid passivated sample under thesame test conditions

Notes: By modifying the sequences in preparation of aqueous ceramic slurries, starch wassuccessfully employed to improve the microstructural controllability of alumina foams fabricatedthrough protein coagulation casting technique. Open porosity was increased and the uniformdistribution of microstructures was improved by the dual functions of starch as pore former and wetfoam stabilizer. The viscosity of slurry was affected by the increasing amount of starch additive dueto the total solid loading increase and the water uptake of starch. A well controlled pore structurewill benefit multifunctional applications of these porous foams

Notes: Skutterudite materials have received great attention because their promising propertiesfor thermoelectric (TE) applications. Among the family of skutterudites, CoSb3 has been intensivelyinvestigated due to its large electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient. However, its thermalconductivity is too high to make it an effective TE material. Nanostructuring of CoSb3 has thedesirable effects of reducing its lattice thermal conductivity as the point imperfections or grainboundaries can scatter phonons (heat carrier) more effectively than electrons (charge carrier). In thisstudy, nanostructured CoSb3 was synthesized by solvothermal routes using CoCl2·6H2O and SbCl3as precursors dissolved in anhydrous ethanol with the reaction temperature kept at 240°C. Inaddition to the CoSb3 phase, other Co-Sb compounds were also formed during the reaction process. In this paper, we investigated the effects of processing parameters, such as concentration ofCoCl2·6H2O, SbCl3 and NaBH4 in ethanol and thermal duration of solvothermal synthesis, on theyield of CoSb3 phase

Notes: Plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coating on metal substrate has been prepared, two kinds of post-treatment methods have been used: (1) Heating in air at 650°C for 30 min, (2) Heating in water vapor at 125°C, 0.15Mpa for 6 hours. XRD showed that the nanocrystals of HA coating increased after water vapor treated. The interfacial tensiles strength between HA and the substrate were 45.0±1.82MPa, 39.1±1.27MPa and 30.3±1.61MPa for as-received coatings, water vaportreated coatings and heated in air coatings respectively. After 3 months implant in dogs limbs, the push-out strength between implants and bone were 11.27±2.71 MPa, 11.63±3.11MPa, 23.92± 2.01MPa and 18.8±1.82 MPa for pure Ti implants, as-received coating implants, water vapor treated implants and heated in air implants respectively. The results showed that the water vapor post treated HA coating have better mechanical behavior in vitro and in vivo
