Modification of Copolyamides via Polymeranalogous Reaction with Glycidyl EthersThe reaction of copolyamides with phenyl glycidyl ether (PGE) and glycidyl oxypropyl-3-triethoxy silane (GPTS) in the presence of anionic catalysts leads to the formation of grafted polyamides. Octanoic acid octylamide (OOA) and a copolyamide of polyamides 6, 66 and 11 were used as polyamide model compounds. The anionic centres were introduced by reaction of the amides with sodium methoxide in boiling toluene. About 15% of the amide groups react with PGE and GPTS. In the presence of GPTS, polycondensation reactions occur and crosslinked products are formed.
