    Description / Table of Contents: On the Inhibition of the Corrosion of Buried IronThere is a report on some laboratory experiments on the inhibition of the corrosion of buried iron. The results are explained by means of the influences of the physical properties of the soil upon the suppression of the iron corrosion by the inhibitors Na2CrO4, NaNO2 and sodium benzoate.The results allow to recommend the application of inhibitors for uncovered ironpipes.
    Notes: Es wird über Laboratoriumsversuche über die Inhibition der Eisenkorrosion im Boden berichtet. Die Versuchsergebnisse werden gemeinsam mit den physikalischen Eigenschaften des Bodens bezüglich der Unterbindung der Eisenkorrosion im Boden durch die Inhibitoren: Na2CrO4, NaNO2 und Na-benzoat ausgewertet. Auf Grund dieser Ergebnisse wird eine Empfehlung für die Verwendung von Inhibitoren für den Korrosionsschutz von blanken Eisenrohren im Erdreich gegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthetic Rubber Products for Protection against CorrosionIn the chemical and similar industries reaction vessels, pipe lines etc. are covered preferably by genuine or synthetic high polymers. The methods being used nowadays to achieve protection against corrosion are very numerous. The covers are made of buna, perbunan, neoprene, butyl rubber, hypalon and hycar. Covers of these materials can be vulcanized. They are resistant to sulfuric acid, acetic acid, potassium hydroxide, chlorine etc. The connection between metal and cover must be totally homogeneous. Otherwise serious interruptions of work might occur. The synthetic high polymers will have to be applied according to certain directions. The techniques of mixing and working and vulcanization are determining the quality of the covers.There are the brass, Dartex and Desmodur methods as well as the silicone covers and the hypalon cermections.Being vulcanised the densisity of the covers is tested by means of an inductive machine. The testing voltage amounts to 2000 volts corresponding to a spark gap of 20 mm.
    Notes: In der chemischen und den verwandten Industrieen werden Reaktionsgefäße, Rohrleitungen und dgl. vorzugsweise mit natürlichen oder synthetischen Hochpolymeren belegt. Die Verfahren, die beute als Korrosionsschutz angewendet werden, sind sehr mannigfaltig. Solche Schutzbeläge werden hergestellt:Aus Buna, Perbunan, Neoprene, Butylkautschuk, Siliconkautschuk, Hypalon, Hycar.Diese Beläge sind vulkanisierbar und beständig gegen:Schwefelsäure, Salzsäure, Flußsäure, Essigsäure, Kalilauge, Chlor usw.Die Verbindung zwischen Metall und Schutzbelag muß vollständig homogen sein, da sonst im Betrieb erhebliche Störungen auftreten können. Die synthetischen Hochpolymere müssen nach ganz bestimmten Vorschriften der Verarbeitung eingesetzt werden. Die Technik der Mischungen, die Verarbeitung und schließlich die Vulkanisation sind für die Güte der Beläge ausschlaggebend.Man kennt das Messingverfahren, das Dartex-Verfahren, das Desmodur-Verfahren, die Siliconbeläge und die Hypalon-Bindungen.Die fertigen Beläge werden nach der Vulkanisation mit einem Induktionsapparat auf Dichtigkeit geprüfl. Die Prüfung erfolgt bei 2000 V-Spannung, die etwa einer Funkenstrecke von 20 min entspricht.

The Corrosion Chemical Behavior of Aluminium in Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide Solutions Containing Alkalimono- and Alkali Hydrogen FluoridesStarting from investigations on the solubility of Al, Al Mg Si and Al Mg alloys especially in KF-solutions of different concentrations  -  After a short duration of action teh metals mentioned will be protected against further attack effectively by dense, well adhering covers.  -  the inhibition of the attacks of 0.1 n HCL and 0.1 n NaOH solutions upon pure Al (99.9) were tested under stationary conditions by addition of different quantities of KF-resp. KF. HF-resp. NH4F.HF. While the metal will suffer no attack in KF-solutions, slight attack in KF.HF-solutions and strong attack in NH4F.HF-solutions additions of KF.HF or NH4F.HF do not influence the solvation of Al (99,9) in 0.1 n HCl in 0.1 n NaOH solutions little additions of fluorides suppress the attack intensely. Under good conditions teh decrease amounts to 98 pct.
    Notes: Ausgehend von Lösungsversuchen mit Al, AlMgSi- und AlMg-Legierungen insbesondere in KF-Lösungen verschiedener Konzentration, bei denen schon nach kurzer Einwirkungsdauer dichte, guthaftende Fluoridschichten die Versuchsmetalle vor dem weiteren Angriff wirkungsvoll schützten, wurde die Inhibition des Angriffs von 0,1 n-HCL und 0,1 n-NaOH auf Rein-Al 99,9 durch Zusatz unterschiedlicher KF- bzw. KF·HF-bzw. (NH4) F.HF-Mengen im Standversuch überprüft. Während der Versuchs-Werkstoff in KF-Lösungen nicht, in KF.HF-Lösungen mäßig und in (NH4)F.HF-Lösungen stark angegriffen wird, beeinflussen KF-, KF.HF- oder (NH4)F.HF-Zusätze das Inlösunggehen von Al 99,9 in 0,1 n-HCL nicht. In 0,1 n-NaOH kommt es dagegen meist schon nach Zusatz geringer Fluoridmengen zu einer starken Inhibition des Angriffs, die unter günstigen Verhältnissen einer Hemmwirkung von 98% entspricht.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Stability of Molybdenium Sulfide against Gases of High TemperaturesMolybdenium sulfide is gaining technological importance because of its excellent lubricating property. As there are no datas on the stability of this material at high temperatures measurements were carried out. The stability is given by the „critical temperature“. It is reached if ≦ 1 pct. of the molybdenium sulfide specimens is decomposed after 30 min duration of action in the flowing gas. The critical temperatures are air 280° C, hydrogen 715° C, hydrogen-nitrogen (20:80 vol-pct.) 870° C, hydrogen-nitrogen (12:88 vol-pct.) 985° C.For practical application the degrees of decomposition of molybdenium sulfide powder are maximum values because smear films suffer a much lower decomposition.
    Notes: Molybdändisulfid findet wegen seiner ausgezeichneten Schmiereigenschaften in neuerer Zeit steigendes technisches Interesse. Da über die Beständigkeit dieses Werkstoffes bei höheren Temperaturen in verschiedenen Gasatmosphären noch verhältnismäßig wenig bekannt ist, wurden Messungen hierzu durchgeführt. Als relatives Maß für die Beständigkeit werden “Grenztemperaturen” mitgeteilt, bis zu denen nach 30 min Einwirkungsdauer in strömendem Gas ≦ 1% der vorhandenen Molybdändisulfid - Menge zersetzt ist. Diese „Grenztemperaturen“ betragen für:Luft 280°C, fürWasserstoff 715°C, fürWasserstoff-Stickstoff (20:80 Vol.-%)870°CWasserstoff-Stickstoff (12:88 Vol.-%)985°CDie für Molybdändisulfid-Pulver gemessenen Zersetzungsgrade sind bei Anwendung in der Praxis als Höchstwerte anzusehen, da bei eingeriebenen Filmen eine u. U. wesentlich geringere prozentuale Zersetzung zu erwarten ist.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Cathodic Protection of Buried Refinery EquipmentThe metals of refinery equipment can corrode if they are exposed to soils in which a combined action of salt bearing water and oxygen takes place. This corrosion is easily prevented by cathodic protection. The protective potential is generated either by a source of direct current or by galvanic cells. It must be slightly more negative than the corrosion potential. The application and the advantages of the necessary anodes of magnesium, zinc or aluminium, their effects and their way of action are discussed in detail. Exact investigations of the soil conditions, especially measurements of the electric resistance, the potential differences, the protective potentials and of leakage currents must be carried out and the required current densities must be calculated before the protective system is installed. The methods and the kinds of the necessary measurements are discussed. The selection of the places and the planful installation of the anodes is of biggest importance. Here the advantages of the horizontal and vertical anodes are discussed. Finally some directions for the calculation of charges of the cathodic protection are given.
    Notes: In Raffinationsanlagen kann Metall u. a. auch korrodieren, wenn es dem Erdboden ausgesetzt wird, wenn ein Zusammernwirken von salzhaltigem Wasser mit Sauerstoff stattfindet. Dieser Erdkorrosion kann durch kathodischen Schutz wirksam begegnet werden. Er wird durch Anlegen eines von einer Gleichstromquelle oder mittels eines galvanischen Elementes erzeugten Potentials erreicht, das etwas größer ist als das Korrosionspotential. Die Verwendung und Vorteile der hierfür erforderlichen und im Erdboden einzubringenden galvanischen Anoden aus Magnesium, Zink oder Aluminium, ihre Wirkung und Arbeitsweise, werden ausführlich erörtert. Vor Einbau eines kathodischen Schutzsystems sind genaue Untersuchungen der im Erdboden herrschenden Verhältnisse an Ort und Stelle vorzunehmen, insbesondere Messungen des elektrischen Widerstandes, der Potentialdifferenzen, Schutzpotentiale, evtl. Streuströme und des Strombedarfs des kathodischen Systems. Methoden und Arten der auszuführenden Messungen werden beschrieben. Die Auswahl des Platzes und die planmäßige Anbringung der Anoden im Erdboden ist von größter Bedeutung. Hierbei werden die Vorteile der Vertikal- und Horizontalanoden erörtert. Richtlinien für die Kostenberechnung des kathodischen Schutzes werden zum Schluß gegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Pipes made of DuroplasticsThe oldest plastics are the hardenable products f reactions between phenols and formaldehyde. They belong to the big class of the duroplastics. One of the fields of application which phenoplasts have been introduced to is the protection against corrosion. The epoxy-resins and the poly-ester-resins demonstrate the intense developement fo the duroplasts which presents new chances of use in protection against corrosion. The good mechanic data of the poly-ester-resp. epoxy-glass-fibre-combinations allow the design interesting constructions.
    Notes: Die ältesten Kunststoffe sind die härtbaren Umsetzungsprodukte von Phenolen mit Formaldehyd. Sie gehören zu der großen Gruppe der Duroplaste. Unter die verschiedenen Anwendungsgebiete, in welche Phenoplaste Eingang gefunden haben, gehört der Korrosionsschutz. In neuerer Zeit haben die Duroplaste besonders durch die Epoxyharze und Polyesterharze eine lebhafte Weiterenwicklung erfahren, die auch auf dem Korrosionsschutzgebiet zu neuen Möglichkeiten führt. Die hohen mechanischen Werte der Polyster- bzw. Epoxy-Glasfaser-Kombinationen ermöglichen interessante Konstruktionen.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Influence of Dust upon the Atmospheric Corrosion of MetalsSeveral properties of several natural and artificial dusts which may influence corrosion processes were investigated. There are the absorption capacity for water vapor and sulfur dioxide and the influence of soluble components, the composition of dusts and their PH-value. Corrosion tests with unprotected steels, copper, zinc and aluminium in presence and absence of sulfur dioxide at different humidities were carried out in presence of duts as characterized above. They allow to draw the following consequences.1In longtime tests a high absorption capacity for water vapor and sulfur dioxide is of subordinate importance because the aggressivity of the dust is much lower than that of the solid corrosion products.2Soluble components of the dusts containing sulfate ions and chloride ions accelerate corrosion in pure atmospheres which are free from sulfur dioxide. In polluted atmospheres they are ineffective. The results show that it seems to be not necessary to regard the effects of dust in accelerated tests o f metal surfaces.
    Notes: Es wurden verschiedene, den Korrosionsverlauf möglicherweise beeinflussende Eigenschaften verschiedener Natur- und Kunststäube bestimmt. Als solche wurden folgende Größen gemessen: Sorptionsvermögen für Wasserdampf und Schwefeldioxyd, auslaugbare Bestandteile, ihre Zusammensetzung und pH. Mit den derart charakterisierten Stäuben wurden statische Korrosionsversuche bei verschiedenen Luftfeuchten und bei An- oder Abwesenheit von SO2 mit ungeschütztem Stahl, Kupfer, Zink and Aluminium durchgeführt, die nachstehende Folgerungen zu ziehen erlaubten:1Hohes Sorptionsvermögen des Staubes für Wasserdampf und SO2 spielt bei Langzeitversuchen eine untergeordnete Rolle, da die korrosionswichtigen Eigenschaften des Staubes von denen der entstehenden festen Korrosionsprodukte unterdrückt werden.2Auslaugbare SO42- un Cl- -haltige Bestandteile der Stäube beschleunigen die Korrosion in reinen (kein SO2 enthaltenden) Atmosphären, wirken sich jedoch in verunreinigten Atmosphären nicht aus. Auf Grund der erzielten Ergebnisses scheint es nicht nötig, den Faktor „Staub“ in Laboratoriumskurzprüfungen von metallischen Oberflächen zu berücksichtigen.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Diagnosis of the Causes of Corrosion Processes from Corrosion ProductsContrarily to the highly developed art of diagnosis in medicine, the chances of diagnosing in corrosion have not been regarded, except for some individual cases. So, the author presents a general survey of the possibilities of diagnosis from corrosion products. The composition, the distribution, the color, the velocity of dissolution and the crystal structure of the corrosion products allow to infer the causes of corrosion. Some diagnoses are reliable, others allow to draw conclusions under curtain conditions only. The treatment is completed b y some exampels. Finally che cases of misdiagnoses are discussed.
    Notes: Im Gegensatz zu der hochentwickelten Diagnose in der Medizin sind auf dem Korrosionsgebiet Diagnosemöglichkeiten nur in wenigen Einzelfällen beachtet worden. Zur Behebung dieses mangels gibt der Verfasser einen allgemeinen Überblick über die Diagnosemöglichkeiten aus den Korrosionsprodukten. Einige Diagnosen sind völlig sicher, andere lassen nur bedingte Schlüsse zu. Die Ausführungen wurden durch einzelne Beispiele belegt. Zum Schluß wird die Möglichkeit von Fehldiagnosen behandelt.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Corrosion Behavior of Magnesium during Inhibition and Activation of its Dissolution represented in a io-pH-DiagrammThe velocity of dissolution of magnesium in acids and alkalis is represented in a corrosion current  -  pH-value diagramm. The conversion of the corrosion current io into the conventional unit g/m2/d was carried out for a magnesium electrode of 25 cm2 geometrical sur/ace.Further subject of investigation was the behavior of magnesium after addition of activators and passivators of the corrosion reaction. We found that KF not only accelerates but also retards the corrosion. These effects depend on the pH,-value of the acid.
    Notes: Die Auflösungsgeschwindigkeit des Magnesiums in Säuren und Alkalien wurde mittels Korrosionsstrom-pH-Diagramm dargestellt. Die Umrechnung des Korrosionsstroms i0 in der üblichen Meßeinheit g/m2. Tg. erfolgte für eine Magnesium-Elektrode von 25 cm2 geometrischer Oberfläche.Ferner war der Gegenstand der Untersuchung das Verhalten des Magnesiums bei Zusatz von Aktivatoren und Passivatoren auf die Korrosionsreaktion. So ergab es sich, daß die Anwesenheit von KF auf die Korrosionsreaktion des Magnesiums abhängig von pH-Wert der Säure hemmend oder fördernd wirken kann.

    Description / Table of Contents: Investigations on the Cathodic Protection of Ship's HullsBecause of the great economic importance of the cathodic protection of hulls an exhausitive survey of the investigations of the institute for seawater corrosion of the Technological University of Gdansk is given. There are measurements of the potentials of different corroded bulls and of a swimming body which was protected by a special paint. Further investigations are dealing with exhaustive corrosion tests on a model of a 10 000 TDW hull and on ballast tanks of tankers. Finally some activity tests of zinc anodes in various arrangements are mentioned.
    Notes: Entsprechend der wirtschaftlichen Bedeutung, die dem Kathodenschutz von Schiffskörpern zukommt, wird ein geschlossener überblick über die von der Anstalt für Meerwasserkorrosion der TH. Gdansk durchgeführten diesbezüglichen Versuche gegeben. Sie umfassen Potentialmessungen an unterschiedlich korrodierten Schiffskörpern, Potentialmessungen an einem durch Spezialanstriche geschützten schwimmenden Schiffskörper, ins Einzelne gehande Kathodenschutz-Untersuchungen an einem festgelegten 10 000 TDW-Schiffskörpermodell und an den Ballasttanks von Tankschiffen sowie Wirksamkeitsprüfungen an Zinkanoden in verschiedener Anordnung.

    Description / Table of Contents: Comparing Exposure Tests on the Corrosion Resistance of Passivated Galvanic zinc coatingsThe results of three years exposure tests on galvanic zinc coatings passivated by 15 different methods are given. The experiments were carried out under different conditions of climate: industry, urban, country and sea climate.There were big differences between the differently passivated coatings though generally a considerable increase of the corrosion resistance could be observed. The most effectfully passivating methods are named. Further result is that there is no good agreement between exposure and accelerated tests. The results show that the most intensive corrosion takes place in industrial climate and decreases in the order urban sea and country climate. It should be mentioned that fairly no dust will be deposited on some chromate coatings. Some coatings remained glittering for longer times, open, till the basic metal was corroded. A comparison of the resistances to corrosion of the differently passivated zinc coatings is given.
    Notes: Die Ergebnisse dreijähriger Feldversuche von galvanischen Zinküberzügen, die nach fünfzehn verschiedenen Verfahren passiviert worden waren, wurden bekanntgegeben. Die Versuche wurden unter verschiedenen Klimaverhältnissen: Industrie-, Stadt-, Land- und Seeklima, durchgeführt.Es wurde festgestellt, daß zwischen den in verschiedenen Bädern passiovierten Überzügen große Unterschiede bestehen in Bezug auf die Korrosionsbeständigkeit. In den meisten Fällen wurde eine bedeutende Verbesserung der Korrosions-beständigkeit beobachtet. Die Passivierungsbäder, welche die Korrosionsbeständigkeit der Zinküberzüge besonders steigern, wurden angegeben. Allgemein wurde festgestellt, daß nur ein loser Zusammenhang zwischen den Ergebnissen der Feld und Schnellversuche besteht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß bei den passivierten Zinküberzügen die stärkste Korrosion im Industrieklima eintritt und dann in der Reihenfolge Stadt-, See-, und Landklima abnimmt. Man bemerkte auch, daß sich auf einigen Chromatüberzügen kaum Schmutz niederschlägt. Manche der Überzüge behielten ihren Glanz längere Zeit, oft bis zum Auftreten der Korrosion des Grundmetalls. Ein Vergleich der Korrosionsbeständigkeit der in verschiedenen Bädern passivierten Zinküberzügen wurde angegeben.

    Description / Table of Contents: Investigations on the Corrosion of Pressure Pipes and on the Protective MeasuresThe article presents a discussion of the general principles of galvanic cells as they cause many initial corrosion processes. This allows to understand easily the formation of rust on pipes in tunnels.The author gives a short summery of the behavior of different metal parts of a pipeline in a gallery under the influence of percolating water as well as of constant modifications of the conditions of temperature and airation.Furthermore some protective measures are described which were found to be suitable. Finally the properties of a protective coating which consists of several covers of paint, requested to guarrantee durable protection, are discussed.
    Notes: In vorliegendem Beitrag werden einige allgemeine Grundsätze der Bildung galvanischer Elemente betrachtet, da solche Elemente den Ausgangspunkt der Korrosionserscheinung darstellen; dadurch wird auch die Bildung des Rostes auf metallischen Leitungen in unterirdischen Schächten leichter verständlich.Der Verfasser gibt danach eine kurze Zusammenfassung des Verhaltens der verschiedenen metallischen Bestandteile einer in einer Galerie laufenden Leitung unter dem Einfluß von Sickerwasser sowie ständigem Wechsel der Temperatur und der Belüftung.Außerdem werden die Schutzmaßnahmen beschrieben, die zur Bekämpfung der schädlichen Einflüsse einer feuchtigkeitsgesättigten Atmosphäre erprobt wurden. Abschließend werden die wesentlichen Eigenschaften behandelt, die ein aus mehreren Anstrichschichten bestehender Überzug besitzen muß, um dauerhaften Schutz zu gewähren.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Importance of the Physical Properties of the Soil in Regard to the Mechanisms of the Reactions of Iron in SoilsAmong various factors controlling the velocity of the corrosion of iron in soils, as there are the soil water, the soil air, the pH-value and the electric resistance of the soil, the adhesive power of the soil to water is the most important one. The active and Passive states of iron in soil can be discerned from the theories of soil physicsBy means of model tests with glass balls of different sizes all kinds of contact corrosion can be explained. In a system unsaturated with water pitting might take place. A more uniform and weaker erosion is noticed in saturated soils.Basing on these results the experimental results of the American Bureau of Standards on the velocity of the corrosion of iron in 47 soils in the USA are represented as dependant of the average annual amount of rain.
    Notes: Unter den verschiedenen Faktoren, welche die Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit des Eisens im Erdreich regulieren, wie z. B. Bodenwasser, Bodenluft, Wasserstoffionen-Konzentration und Erdbodenwiderstand, ist das Haflvermögen des Bodens an Wasser der wichtigste Faktor. Das aktive und passive Verhalten des Eisens im Erdreich kann mit den Grundlagen der Bodenphysik erklärt werden.An Hand von Modellversuchen mit Glaskugeln verschiedener Größe werden die möglichen Arten der Kontaktkorrosion erklärt, in einem an Wasser ungesättigten System kommt es zu Lochfraß, und in einem an Wasser gesättigten Boden wird Eisen weniger und gleichmäßiger abgetragen.Auf Grund dieser Ergebnisse wurde versucht, die in der Natur erhaltenen Versuchsergebnisse des amerikanischen Bureau of Standards über die Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit des Eisens in 47 USA-Böden in Abhängigkeit von der durchschnittlichen jährlichen Regenmenge darzustellen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Chemical and Electro-Chemical Aspects of Corrosion in Atomic PilesThe author presents a treatment on the chemical and Electro-chemical aspects of the corrosion of metals in atomic piles. After a survey of the electro-chemical corrosion processes on the phase boundaries metal - protective film-solution under normal conditions, the influences of radioactive radiation on these processes and the corrosion reactions caused by the products of nuclear fission are discussed. Finally some practical results obtained in National Oak Ridge Laboratory are treated.
    Notes: Der Verfasser behandelt die chemischen und elektrochemischen Aspekte der Korrosion von Metallen in Kernreaktoren. Nach einer Darstellung der elektrochemischen Korrosionsreaktionen an den Phasengrenzflächen Metall-Schutzfilm-Lösung werden die Einflüsse von Kernstrahlen auf diese Reaktionen und die Reaktionen der Spaltprodukte mit den im Reaktor verwendeten Metallen behandelt. Abschließend werden praktische Ergebnisse, die im National Oak Ridge Laboratory erzielt wurden, eingehend diskutiert.

The corrosion current of io = 1mA of a zinc electrode of 25 cn2 geometrical surface corresponds to a loss of weight of 37.1 g/m2·day.The inhibition of the dissolution of zinc in aqueous solutions of HNO3 and H2SO4 can be represented by the equation \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \log \,{\rm i}_{\rm o} = \log \,k - {\raise0.5ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle 1$}\kern-0.1em/\kern-0.15em\lower0.25ex\hbox{$\scriptstyle {\rm n}$}}\,\log \,{\rm c}{\rm .} $$\end{document} k and 1/n are constants. c is the quantity of the inhibitor added per 1000 cm3.
    Notes: Das Verhalten von Zink 99,0 in wäßrigen Säure- (HCL, H2SO4, HNO3, C2H2O4) und alkalischen (NaOH, Na2CO3, NH4OH) Lösungen wurde in einem Korrosionsstrom-pH-Diagramm dargestellt.     Description / Table of Contents: Passivation of Zinc by 1,1 Dimethylethane-1-01-Chromate in the Gas PhaseA new agent to passivate zinc by action in the gas phase was suggested. The effective passivating agent is the vapor of tertiary butanol chromate. Testing the influence of the gas phase on the corrosion behavior of zinc we found that a temporary action passivates the metal and decreases the velocity of corrosion. In case the metal is subjected afterwards to the action of a corrosive agent its resistance to corrosion depends on the duration of hte action of the passivating agent. Investigating the mechanism of the reaction between the vapors of the tertiary butanol chromate and zinc we found that the partial pressure of the air determines the velocity of passivation. Sometimes zinc specimens passivated this way showed higher resistance to corrosion than those passivated by solutions of chromic acid.
    Notes: Es wurde ein in der Gasphase wirkendes passivierungsmittel für Zink vorgeschlagen, das als wirksames Passivierungsagens Dämpfe von tertiärem Butanolchromat enthält. Beim Studium des Einflusses der angeführten Gasphase auf das Korrosionsverhalten des Zinks wurde festgestellt, daß durch ihr zeitweiliges Einwirken eine passivierung des metalls und dadurch eine Herabsetzung seiner Korrosionsgeschwindigkeit bewirkt wird. Im Falle, daß das metall sekundär der Einwirkung des Korrosionsmediums ausgesetzt wird, ist seine Korrosionsfestigkeit von der Dauer der Einwirkung des Passivierungsmittels abhängig. Durch das Studium des Wirkungsmechanismus der Dämpfe von tertiärem Butanolchromat auf Zink wurde festgestellt, daß der Partialdruck der Luft im gegebenen System den die Geschwindigkeit der Passivierung bestimmenden Faktor darstellt. Bei dem durch das angeführte Chromat passivierten Zink wurde teilweise ein höherer Korrosionswiderstand festgestellt, als beim Zink, das durch eine Chromsäurelösung passiviert wurde.

    Description / Table of Contents: Measurement of Intercrystalline Corrosion by Resonance VibrationAn apparatus to measure intercrystalline corrosion by means of resonance vibrations was constructed. A specimen, showing intercrystalline corrosion as produced by a treatment in a standard solution or some how else, is subjected to the vibrations of a magnetic exitor which is fed by an amplified vibration generator. Reaching the frequency of resonance which is changing according to the degree of the corrosive attack, is indicated by modification of the sound of the specimens or by means of silicon carbide powder which is gathered in the nodal point. The accuracy of measurement depends on the force of fastening the specimen, on its position on the support and on the position of the ferromagnetic case if nonmagnetic specimens are investigated. The evaluation of the measurements is carried out by calculating the modifications of the frequencies of resonance in time or by graphic comparison of curves of different materials.
    Notes: Es wurde eine Einrichtung zur Messung der interkristallinen Korrosion mittels einer Methode der Resonanzfrequenz ausgearbeitet. Die geprüfte Probe, auf der die interkristalline Korrosion hervorgerufen wurde, sei es in Standardlösungen oder in realen Medien, wird mittels eines magnetischen erregers, der über einen Verstärker von einem Schwingungsgenerator gespeist wird, in Schwingungen versetzt. Das erreichen der Resonanzfrequenz, die sich mit dem Grad des Korrosionsanfalles ändert, wird durch die Tonänderung der Probe oder mittels Siliziumkarbid-Pulver, das sich bei der Resonanz im Schwingungsknotenpunkt ansammelt, indiziert. Die Genauigkeit der Messung hängt von der Kraft der Einspannung der Probe, von der Lage der probe im Stativ, bzw. von der Lage der ferromagnetischen Hülse (beim Messen unmagnetischer Materiale) ab. Die Auswertung der Messungen wird entweder durch Berechnung der Änderung der Resonanzfrequenz in einem gewissen Zeitabschnitt, oder durch graphisches Vergleichen der verschiedenen materialkurven (Zeitabhängigkeiten) durchgeführt.

Es wird in Verbindung mit einigen anderen Veröffentlichungen ein kurzer Überblick über den Stand der Auskleidungstechnik gegeben.     Description / Table of Contents: Surface Protection by Whirl Sintering and Flame SprayingSome special questions of surface protection by whirl sintering and flame spraying arc discussed. Whirl sinter apparatus allow dip coating of mostly metallic goods with relatively thin plastic cowers. Flame spraying produces cowers by spraying a flame which contains plastic powder on a heated good. Methods to achieve good adhesion (about 100 kg/cm2) are sand jetting (under special conditions) and wash primer treatments (e. g. for Aluminium). The chemical preparation of the surface is gaining increasing importance even for steel. The conditions to reduce the damage of the plastic powder by high temperatures arc given. The state of developement is characterized by the introduction of further wellknown plastics which have been made applicable for whirl sintering. The use of the whirl sintering method will not be limited to plastics.In future Combinations of various plastics and the use of fillers will be of special importance. Pigmenting and coloring do not cause noteworthy difficulties.The method could be used for all materials, especially metals, which can stand the necessary preheating temperatures. The automation of the whirl sintering process by use of transport chains and colander furnaces is being developed. Semiautomatic devices have been working in some foreign countries. A continuous concerning by means of special forms is possible too.
    Notes: Spezielle Fragen des Oberflächenschutzes durch Wirbelsintern und Flammspritzen werden behandelt. Wirbelsintergeräte gestatten die Tauchbeschichtung meist metallischer Werkstücke mit relativ dünnen Kunststoffschichten. Beim Flammspritzen geschieht der Schichtauftrag durch Ausschleudern von Kunststoffpulver durch eine Flamme auf ein vorgewärmtes Werkstück. Methoden zur Erreichung einer guten Haftfestigkeit (rd. 100 kg/cm2) sind das Sandstrahlen unter besonderen Bedingungen und bei Aluminium gegebenenfalls auch bestimmte „Wash-Primer“-Vorbehandlungen. Die chemischen Haftgrundvorbereitungen gewinnen auch für Stahl an Bedeutung. Die Bedingungen, die eine Schädigung des Kunststoffs durch hohe Verarbeitungstemperaturen vermindert, werden genannt.Der Entwicklungsstand wird gekennzeichnet durch das Hinzukommen welterer bekannter Kunststoffe, die jetzt auch für diese Verfahren verwendbar gemacht wurden. Die Anwendung speziell des Wirbelsinterverfahrens wird nicht auf Kunststoffe beschränkt bleiben.Von besonderer Bedeutung werden in Zukunft auch Kombinationen verschiedener Kunststoffe und die Verwendung von Füllstoffen sein. Das Pigmentieren und Einfärben der Schichten bietet keine nennenswerten Schwierigkeiten.Beschichtbar sind alle Materialien, die die erforderlichen Vorwärmetemperaturen aushalten, hauptsächlich also Metalle.Die Automatisierung des Wirbelsinter-verfahrens durch Anwendung von Transportketten und regulierbaren Durchlauföfen ist in der Entwicklung. Halbautomatische Anlagen sind im Ausland bereits vorhanden. Auch die kontinuierliche Beschichtung mit Hilfe besonderer Geräteformen ist möglich.

An exhaustive survey of the exposure tests planned and of standards to determine the quality of the preliminary treatments is given.
    Notes: Nachdem, der Korrosionsausschuß der Königlich Schwedischen Akademie der Ing.-Wissenschaften bei Feldversuchen auf einen gewissen Zusammenhang zwischen der Lebensdauer eines Anstrichs und dem Verrostungsgrad der Stabloberfläche vor der Ausführung eines Anstriches hingewiesen hat, berichtet der Verfasser über den Stand der Vorarbeiten für neue Feldversuche, bei denen verschiedene Gütegrade bei verschiedenartigen Vorbehandlungen untersucht werden.
