Notes: Abstract The microbial decomposition of creatinine was found to proceed mainly via N-methylhydantoin or creatine as the first degradation product. Either N-methylhydantoin or urea or both were detected as metabolites derived from creatinine in various microorganisms, and creatinine deiminase and creatinine amidohydrolase activities were detected concomitantly. N-Methylhydantoin hydrolase and N-carbamoylsarcosine amidohydrolase were found to be formed inducibly in the presence of creatinine or N-methylhydantoin. Three microorganisms which decompose creatinine in different ways were screened from soil. Pseudomonas putida 77 rapidly metabolized creatinine solely via N-methylhydantoin. Degradation of creatinine proceeded with both creatine and N-methylhydantoin as the first degradation products at the same time in Pseudomonas sp. H21. Pseudomonas sp. 0114 was found to metabolize creatinine mainly via creatine and to also metabolize N-methylhydantoin. Changes in the metabolites of creatinine during a cultivation or enzyme reaction were found to be closely related to the enzyme activities of interest which are regulated by creatinine or N-methylhydantoin in different ways depending on the microbial strain.

Notes: Electron beam welding (EBW) has an important role in industrial applications such assemi-conductor and LCD manufactures because of its high performance and accuracy. Since theoperation is done in a vacuum room, it is very difficult to test the weldability as well as the correctwelding area of the specimen. In this study, a measurement system of the EBW was developed basedon the 3-axis LVDT controlled table. In addition, the algorithm to tracking the welding line has beendeveloped. The weldability of the aluminum specimen was tested by a newly developed measurementsystem with ultrasonic C-scan inspection

Notes: A new hybrid soldering and conductive adhesive joining technology using a fusible lowmelting-point alloy (LMPA) have been developed. A numerical method for numerical analysis offusible particles behavior is proposed to investigate coalescence characteristics of fusible particlesin solderable isotropic conductive adhesives (ICAs). For finding out suitable conditions to obtainreliable conduction paths, the present study examines the influence of process-related parameterssuch as volume fraction and viscosity on coalescence characteristics of fusible particles

Notes: The reliability of QFP (Quad flat package) solder joint using Sn-8Zn-3Bi solder pasteunder the thermal shock test was investigated. Considering the environmental restriction such asROHS, the QFP Cu LF (Lead-frame) was coated with lead-free materials (Sn, Sn-3Bi). To analyzethe reliability under thermal shock treatment, the samples were placed in the thermal shock chamber(248K/423K, Dwell time: 30min). During the thermal shock test, the solder joint cross-sectionswere observed every 500 cycles. No crack initiation and propagation was observed through all typeof plated Cu LF. The measured pull strength slightly decreased, as the number of cycles increased. After 1000 cycles, the pull strength of Sn and SnBi plated Cu LF reduced by 30% and 20%,respectively, compared with that of initial condition. Observing the fracture surface morphology byFE-SEM, the fracture mode changed and the IMC fractured area on the both fracture surface wasincreased. The IMC was identified as γ-Cu5Zn8 by chemical composition analysis using EDS. Thereduced pull strength was affected by IMC fracture and fracture mode change. However, the pullstrength does not decrease steeply but gradually. Consequently, the Sn-8Zn-3Bi solder joint showsthe reliable solder joint strength, fracture mechanism, and compatibility with lead-free plated Cu LFduring the thermal shock temperature of 248K to 423K

Notes: In recent years, the replacement repair welding, through which damaged bridges arerepaired by replacing of the damaged sections with new steel plates through cutting and weldingunder in-service conditions, has been highlighted for its brilliant features i.e. it can be achievedwithout incurring traffic dislocation. However, the validity of the repair method is not fully verifiedbecause of its lack of safety and reliability. Moreover, repair method by welding inevitably involvescutting and welding process, and the weldability of the replacement repair welded joints has not yetbeen clarified. In this paper, the weldability of the replacement-repair-welded joints wasinvestigated in order to improve reliability in the repair welded joints of the aged steel bridge. ASteel plate was extracted from the steel bridge after the period of prolonged service, and waswelded with a new plate, using replacement repair welding technique, in order to construct aspecimen. Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) process was used to fabricate the double "V" buttjoints. Welded joints were characterized on the basis of chemical composition analysis, hardnesstest and micro-structural analysis

Notes: A novel electrically conductive adhesives (ECAs) with solder particle have beendeveloped. The kinetics of the curing reaction were investigated using isothermal differentialscanning calorimeter (DSC). The dynamic DSC scans were also conducted to investigate thetemperature dependant curing degree. The temperature dependant viscosity characteristic ofpolymer was investigated using rheometer. The wetting characteristic of two solders on two kindsof metals were investigated using an optical microscope. It was found that developed resin materialshowed good fluxing capacity against Sn-Bi solder on Ni/Au and the wetting angles was about 24º

Notes: The ultimate goals of this study are to investigate numerically nonequilibrium energytransfer between electrons and phonons, and to predict the crater formation shapes of gold thin filmstructures irradiated by femtosecond pulse lasers. In particular, the present article expands the onedimensionaltwo-temperature model (1DTTM) to the two-dimensional model (2DTTM) consideringwave interference, and it involves the quantum effect to predict thermal and optical properties. Thepredictions by using 2DTTM are extensively compared with those of 1DTTM, and the influence offilm thickness on radiation heat transfer and optical characteristics are also examined. From theresults, it is found that the predictions of 2DTTM are in good agreement with those of 1DTTM. Asthe gold film thickness decreases, the reflectivity decreases dramatically and the absorbed laserintensities at the top surface increases substantially because of wave interference in thin films

Notes: Penicillium amagasakiense secreted glucose oxidase (GOD) with a highly diminished carbohydrate moiety (aglyco-GOD) in the presence of 20 mg/l tunicamycin. To examine enzymatic properties of aglyco-GOD, this and native GOD (glyco-GOD) were purified to homogeneity from the culture medium with or without tunicamycin. The carbohydrate content of aglyco-GOD was 2.9% and the Mr of it and its subunit were 130 000 and 70 000, respectively. On the other hand, those from glyco-GOD were 20.4%, 150 000 and 80 000, respectively. Nonetheless, they showed remarkably similar catalytic properties to each other: Km values of 3.4 and 2.7 mM and Vmax values of 320 and 270 U/mg protein. pH optima 5.5 and 6.0 were observed for aglyco and glyco-GOD, respectively. Isoelectric focusing showed a strikingly similar pattern with each GOD having one major band of pI 4.2 and 2 minor bands between pI 4.3 and 4.5, which implies that microheterogeneity of GOD was not due to heterogeneous glycosylation. Up to 35°C, both enzyme preparations were stable for 30 min while both were considerably inactivated after 30 min at 45°C. Therefore, we conclude that the carbohydrate moiety plays no significant role in the enzymatic function of P. amagasakiense GOD.

Notes: Abstract A novel metabolic pathway for creatinine, degradation of creatinine to glycine via N-methylhydantoin, N-carbamoylsarcosine and sarcosine in turn, was found to operate in Pseudomonas putida 77. N-Methylhydantoin, sarcosine and glycine were detected as metabolites from creatinine, and enzyme activities responsible for the degradation of creatinine, N-methylhydantoin, N-carbamoylsarcosine and sarcosine were observed in a crude cell extract, while neither creatinine amidohydrolase activity nor creatine were detected at all. It is suggested that creatinine was utilized as a source of both carbon and nitrogen at the same time, and that N-methylhydantoin was also utilized efficiently.
