Summary Van Slyke andCullen devised and described the use of an aeration-assembly for the estimation of urinary and blood urea by the titration of ammonia set free out of a blood-urease mixture treated with an alcaline solution and aerated into a solution of known acidity. This assembly has been modified and adapted to a microkjeldahl procedure suitable for the estimation of all kind of proteinic matter by employing the reactiontube itself for the Kjeldahl digestion and titrating the ammonium salt thus formed by cold-aeration technic in the same apparatus without loss of solution and without hot distillation. Correct manipulation attains a sensitivity of 0·1 mg nitrogen.
