Notes: Fermi level movements at Pt/GaAs and Ti/GaAs interfaces have been investigated using a direct measurement of Schottky barrier heights in a bimetal Schottky structure. Using thin interfacial layers, the Schottky barrier was smoothly varied from the characteristic value of the thick metal to that of the interfacial metal. The variation of barrier height versus the inner metal thickness was found to exhibit an exponential behavior extending over a few monolayers coverage. This experiment indicates a new approach to the fundamental study of metal-semiconductor interfaces and could be useful in device applications.

Notes: A systematic study of EL2 midgap trap in GaAs using deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) is reported for contacts having a large range of Schottky barrier height. The results show that the DLTS signal of EL2 increases as the barrier height rises from 0.62 eV and saturates for barrier height above 0.83 eV. It is found, for the first time, that for Schottky barrier height lower than 0.62 eV the EL2 signal disappears. A model for calculation of the quasi-Fermi level in the depletion region is used to explain the variation and disappearance of the EL2 signal. This model may also apply to other electron traps near midgap.

Notes: This paper reviews the recent progress in the development of exposure equipment for x-ray lithography consisting of compact synchrotron radiation source, beamline, and x-ray stepper. This exposure facility is situated door by door to a CMOS-pilot line. The compact storage ring COSY, under assembly in Berlin, is described and calculations are presented, that show that relatively low accumulated current exposure times of some seconds can be expected using a highly sensitive x-ray resist. A simple, inexpensive, and highly reliable beamline has been realized to connect an x-ray stepper and a light source. Several x-ray steppers have been installed for field testing in the nearby lithography laboratory at BESSY, that are equipped with x-ray reflecting mirrors, or a scanning mask and wafer unit for full-field exposure.

Notes: Abstract We present cross sections for the charged lepton production from the lightest charged superpartner particles predicted by theSU(N, 1) Minimal SUGRA model, either the superpartners of the r.h. charged leptons or the Wino/Higgsino. At least one of these should appear in the decay of theZ, which is produced ine + e −-annihilation-presumably soon at the SLC — or inp $$\bar p$$ collider experiments. A large missing mass and strong deviations from back to back production of lepton pairs (and possibly ae-μ final state) would indicate such charged massive intermediate particles.

Notes: Abstract We discuss the effect of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), a Higgsino, and of the gravitino of theSU(N,1) minimal SUGRA model in the standard big bang theory. The freeze out of the LSP depends on the gravitino mass and on the top mass and leads to restrictive lower bounds for these parameters in the model. The decay of a gravitino with mass in the few TeV range leads to a delay in the cooling of the universe before nucleosynthesis. This constitutes the main bound on the gravitino mass of the model. The results are compared with the more standard “simultaneous decay approximation”.

Notes: Abstract An optical bench study has been carried out to assess the effects of both beam alignment and nonconical disturbances in the application of conical shadowgraphy for flow visualization. Conical and quasiconical plastic test models were immersed in a refractive index matching fluid and then examined by shadowgraphy with a conical light beam. The results show that problems of interpretation may arise due to both axial and transverse beam misalignment. Among these difficulties, axial misalignment with positive vertex displacement is the least serious. Also, the effect of a particular nonconical disturbance field was found to introduce fewer difficulties of interpretation than that of beam misalignment.

Notes: Abstract Calcium fertilizers as a dust were tested under laboratory conditions on their effects on small populations (2000 ♀♀, 2 ♂♂) of the Red Hillbuilding Wood AntFormica polyctena. Mixed into the food, the ants didn't show any reactions; however dusted with Calcium, daily mortality increased up to 10 times compared to non treated populations. Furthermore, reproduction and foraging activity were diminished. Additional experiments using one brand of fertilizer but different particle sizes showed that the finer the dust, the more detrimental is Calcium fertilizer to laboratory populations ofF. polyctena.
