    Notes: Summary The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether a reduction in HDL-cholesterol is peculiar to non cardioselective beta blockers or whether it is also produced by cardioselective beta1-blockers. 16 patients with primary arterial hypertension on a balanced isocaloric diet were given oxprenolol 120 to 240 mg/day or metoprolol 100 to 200 mg/day in a random cross-over study. No significant change was observed after either treatment in fasting blood glucose, serum total cholesterol and triglycerides. HDL-cholesterol concentration was significantly decreased on metoprolol, from 41 to 36 mg/dl (p〈0.05), while oxprenolol did not affect it at all. The difference might depend on intrinsic sympathomimetic activity which is possessed by oxprenolol and which metoprolol lacks.

    Notes: Summary The presence of a possible correlation between changes in left ventricular mass of hypertensive patients and the degree of blood pressure reduction with different antihypertensive drugs has been investigated in 40 outpatients by M-mode echocardiography. Ten of these, with blood pressure in normal limits with different antihypertensive treatment had their therapy changed in chlorthalidone 25 mg/day without any run-in (Group A); other 30 patients, with a previously uncontrolled blood pressure, after a 14 day run-in, were randomly allocated to chlorthalidone 25 mg/day (Group B), slow release nifedipine 20 mg/day (Group C) or placebo (Group D). At the end of the eight week treatment period a further decrease in systolic blood pressure was observed in Group A without changes in ventricular mass; an highly significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure was observed in B and C but only patients on chlorthalidone changed their ventricular mass; no change in both blood pressure and ventricular mass was observed on placebo. As changes in ventricular mass are not correlated with blood pressure reduction, we conclude that other, not well defined factors, apart from the decrease in duration and degree of left ventricular systolic wall tension, may be responsable for reversal of left ventricular hypertrophy.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Sono stati misurati gli spettri di termoriflettanza tra 3 e 9 eV per una serie di cristalli misti GaSxSe1−x. I campioni erano lastrine monocristalline cresciute dalla fase vapore con il metodo del trasporto chimico. Le misure sono state effettuate con radiazione non polarizzata propagantesi all'incirca lungo l'asse di anisotropia dei cristalli, mentre la modulazione in temperatura è stata eseguita attorno a 65 K. Molte strutture degli spettri di riflettività sono state analizzate nella loro dipendenza dalla concentrazione di zolfo nei cristalli misti. Su questa base si è data una approfondita discussion degli spettri ottici di GaS e GaSe oltre la soglia fondamentale, e si sono ottenute nuove informazioni riguardanti i livelli elettronici di energia sia per questi composti che per l'InSe, che ha struttura cristallina analoga.
    Abstract: Резюме Были измерены спектры термоотражения в области между 3 и 9 эВ для ряда смешанных GaS x Se x−1 кристаллов. Образцы представляют монокристал-лические пластинки, вырращенные из пара химическнм методом. Измерения проведены с неполяризованным светвым пучком, распространяющимся приблизителщимся приблизительно рдоль оси анизотропии кристалла. Температура модулируется вблизи 65 К. Анализи-руются некоторы в спектрах отражения в зависимости от концентрации серы в смешанных кристаллах. Прородится подробное обсуждение оптических спектров в GaS и GaSe ниже основного края. Получается новая информадия об электронных энергетических уровнях для указанных соединений и для InSe, которые имеют аналогичную кристаллическую структуру.
    Notes: Summary The thermoreflectance spectra between 3 and 9 eV have been measured for a series of GaSxSe1−x mixed crystals. The samples were single-crystal platelets grown from the vapour by the chemical-transport method. The measurements were performed with a nonpolarized light beam propagating approximately along the anisotropy crystal axis and the temperature was modulated around 65 K. Many structures in the reflectance spectra have been analysed in their dependence on the sulphur concentration in the mixed crystals. On this basis a detailed discussion of the optical spectra in GaS and in GaSe beyond the fundamental edge is given, and new information concerning the electronic energy levels is obtained both for these compounds and for InSe, which has an analogous crystal structure.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Nell'àmbito del metodo della trasformazione bosonica, una tecnica generale per lo studio di superconduttori a dimensione finita è applicata allo studio delle proprietà elettromagnetiche di un superconduttore semi-infinito e di un film di spessore arbitrario. Sono calcolate le distribuzioni del campo magnetico e della densità di corrente, e sono riportati risultati numerici per qualche caso tipico. Infine, si ottiene, e si confronta con precedenti risultati, una stima del campo di surriscaldamento per superconduttori del II tipo.
    Abstract: Резюме В рамках метода бозонного преобразования общий подход для исследования конечно-мерных сверхпроводников применяется к изучению электромагнитных свойств полубесконечного сверхпроводника и пленки произвольной толщины в присутствии параллельного внешнего магнитного поля. Вычисляются распределения магнитного поля и плотности тока вблизи поверхностей. Приводятся численные результаты для некоторых типичных случаев. Оценивается поле супернагревания для сверхпроводника второго рода. Оценка сравнивается с имеющимися результатами.
    Notes: Summary In the framework of the boson transformation method, a general approach to the study of finite-dimensionality superconductors is applied to the investigation of the electromagnetic properties of a semiinfinite superconductor and of a film of arbitrary thickness in the presence of a parallel external magnetic field. The magnetic-field and current density distributions near the surfaces are computed and numerical results are given for some typical cases. As an application, an estimation of the superheating field for type-II superconductor is obtained and compared with previous results.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si presenta un nuovo metodo di analisi numerica che, utilizzando la relazione di dispersione per Δ(ω), energy gap function, proposta da Galkin, D'yachenko and Svistunov, permette di determinare da dati sperimentali ottenuti su giunzioni tunnel superconduttive la funzione interazione elettrone-fononeα 2(ω)F(α) per l'elettrodo superconduttore. Il metodo stesso è discusso e si evidenziano le ipotesi che permettono la soluzione numerica dell'equazione integrale di prima specie derivata dalle equazioni di Eliashberg. Le Δ(ω) edα 2(ω)F(α) ottenute applicando tale metodo ai dati relativi ad una giunzione Al−Al2O3−Pb (elettrodo superconduttore) sono presentate e discusse con particolare riferimento alla stabilità e convergenza del metodo.
    Abstract: Резюме Предлагается новый метод численного анализа, который позволяет определить функцию электрон-фононного взаимодействияα 2(ω)F(α), используя экспериментальные данные, полученные для сверхпроводяшего туннельного перехода. Этот метод использует дисперсионное соотнощение длл Д(щ), предложенное Галкиным, Яшенко и Свистуновым. Обсуждается предложенный метод и подтверждаются гипотезы, которые розволяют численно рещить интегральное уравнение первого рода, выведенное из уравнений Элиащберга. Испрльзуя этот метод для туннельных данных в Al−Al2O3−Pb переходе, получаются Δ(ω) иα 2(ω)F(α). Полученные результаты обсуждаются с точки зрения устойчивости и сходимости предложенного метода.
    Notes: Summary A new method of numerical analysis is presented which allows the determination of the electron-phonon interaction functionα 2(ω)F(α) using the experimental data obtained from a superconducting tunnel junction. This method utilizes the dispersion relation for Δ(ω) (complex energy gap function) proposed by Galkin, D'yachenko and Svistunov. The method and the hypotheses which allow the numerical solution of the first-kind integral equation derived from the Eliashberg equations are shown and discussed. Δ(ω) andα 2(ω)F(α) of Pb are obtained by applying this method to the tunnel data of an Al−Al2O3-Pb (superconducting electrode) junction. The results are discussed with particular reference to the stability and convergence of the method applied.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Le caratteristiche tunnel (J vs. V) di strutture Al−Al2O3−InSb (n type) con eletrodo semiconduttore sottile (100÷400) Å sono presentate. Esse sono analizzate utilizzando il modello proposto da Chang, Esaki e Styles; i dati ottenuti da un adattamento ottimale non lineare sui punti sperimentali descrivono la struttura MOS e la regione a resistenza negativa esibita dalle caratteristiche. Inoltre si osserva che il gap del semiconduttore varia con lo spessore; tale variazione è interpretata mediante la presenza di effetti quantistici di dimensione nei films più sottili.
    Abstract: Резюме Приводятся туннельные характеристики (J в зависимости отV) для Al−Al2O3−InSb (n-типа) структур с тонким (100÷400) Å сверхпроводящим злектродом. Эти нарактеристики анализируются с помощью модели, предложенной Ченгом, Есаки и Стайлсом. Данные, полученные путем нелинейной подгонки, описывают MOS структуры и область отрицательного сопротивления, обнаруженного в характеристиках. Кроме того, щель в свернпроводнике обнаруживает зависимость от толщины. Изменение щели объясняется наличием квантовых эффектов, связанных с размерами образцов, в тончайших пленках.
    Notes: Summary The tunnel characteristics (J vs. V) of Al−Al2O3−InSb (n type) structures with thin (100÷400)Å semiconducting electrode are presented. They are analysed by utilizing the model proposed by Chang, Esaki and Styles. The data obtained by a nonlinear best fit on experimental points describe the MOS structure and the negative-resistance region exibited by the characteristics. Furthermore, the semiconductor gap shows a dependence on the thickness and this variation is explainable with the quantum effects presence in the thinnest films.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto È stato rilevato l’andamento della temperatura di transizione resistiva superconduttiva di films granulati di Pb in funzione della dimensione dei grani, sia per films cresciuti direttamente su vetro che interfacciati con Formvar. I dati sperimentali sono stati analizzati nell’ambito della teoria di Garland come estesa da Watton. Sono stati evidenziati nei films interfacciati con Formvar un aumento dell’energia media di accoppiamento (ω) ed una diminuzione del parametro di accoppiamento (λ). Tali risultati sono stati correlati con le modifiche allo spettro vibrazionale osservate con techniche tunnelling in giunzioni A1/Formvar/Pb.
    Abstract: Резюме В гранулированных пленках Pb исследуется поведение температуры сверхпроводящего перехода в зависимости от размера зерен для пленок, выращенных непосредственно на стекле, и для пленок, граничащих с Формваром. Экспериментальные данные анализируются в рамках теории Гарланда, обобщенной Ваттоном. Для пленок, граничащих с Формваром, обнаружено увеличение средней энергии связи (ω) и уменьшение параметра связи (λ). Эти результаты коррелируют с видоизменениями вибрационного спектра, наблюденного посредством туннелирования в переходах А1/Формвар/Pb.
    Notes: Summary The behaviour of the superconducting resistive transition temperature was studied in Pb granulated filmsvs. the grain size both for films grown directly on glass and for those interfaced with Formvar. The experimental data were analysed with reference to the Garland theory as extended by Watton. An increase of the average coupling energy (ω) and a decrease of the coupling parameter (λ) were revealed in the films interfaced with Formvar. These results were correlated to the modifications of the vibrational spectrum observed, by tunnelling, in A1/Formvar/Pb junctions.
