Notes: Fe-Al intermetallic/TiC-Al2O3 ceramic composites were fabricated by in-situ carbothermicand aluminothermic reduction from natural ilmenite. Synthesis and sintering of the composites wereaccomplished unanimously in the vacuum hot pressure furnace. The thermodynamic process, thecomposition, the microstructure as well as the properties of the FeTiO3-Al-C system were studied indetail through theoretical analysis and experimental research. It was shown that the synthesis processstarted from the melting aluminium, followed by the deoxidation of ilmenite step by step via a series ofdifferent valent titanium oxides to form TiC, Al2O3 and Fe-Al as the ultimate productions. The particlesizes are mostly 3-5μm, and their distributions are uniform. Meanwhile, the addition of additives canimprove the wettability of alloy to ceramic phases and the combination of the interfaces, giving rise to theproperties of the composites as a whole

Notes: Steel-bonded cemented carbide GT35 was fabricated from natural ilmenite by in-situ synthesisand vacuum pressureless sintering. The thermodynamics of the synthesis process were analyzed. Theresults indicated that the stable phases were TiC and iron in the FeTiO3-C system. During the synthesisprocess, ilmenite was reduced by graphite via a series of titanium oxides to obtain hard phase (TiC) andthe steel matrix as the ultimate products. The experimental results shown that GT35 had a reasonablephase composition and fine TiC particles embedded uniformly in the steel matrixes. The compositesexhibited excellent mechanical properties: the relative density was higher than 97%, the hardness reachedHRC 61.5 and the maximal bending strength was about 1270MPa

Notes: In this article, a novel InGaP/GaAs pnp δ-doped heterojunction bipolar transistor is firstdemonstrated. Though the valence band discontinuity at InGaP/GaAs heterojunction is relativelylarge, the addition of a δ-doped sheet between two spacer layers at the emitter-base junctioneffectively eliminates the potential spike and increases the confined barrier for electrons, simultaneously. Experimentally, a high current gain of 25 and an offset voltage of 100 mV areachieved. The offset voltage is much smaller than the conventional InGaP/GaAs pnp HBT. Theproposed device could be used for linear amplifiers and low-power complementary integratedcircuit applications

Notes: The grinding process has been investigated in the machining of titanium alloy withconventional grinding wheel and SG grinding wheel respectively. The machinability discussed hereincludes grinding force, surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, grinding ratio, grinding-wheelwear and grinding-wheel life. The SG grinding wheel is found to possess particularly good grindingproperties and is more suitable for grinding titanium alloy when compared with conventionalabrasive tools

Notes: A new strategy for 5-axis NC machining called Rotate-For-Intersect Machining (RFIM)was presented in this paper. The cutter was settled by two cutter contact points and in order toobtain optimized tool position and orientation, grid point method and bi-section method wareutilized in searching cutter’s rotate angle and tilt angle. Finally the algorithm was implemented onUG platform following further development and the effectiveness of the method was validated

Notes: The effect of NiCoCrAlYx-ZrO2 (1-x) interlayer on the residual stresses in theZrO2/NiCoCrAlY thermal barrier coating due to thermal cycling was analyzed using the finiteelement method. Modeling results showed that the magnitude and distribution of the residualstresses in the coating were strongly influenced by the material combination characterized by thevalue of x and the thickness of interlayer. The maximum tensile stresses at the different regions (i.e.coating/substrate interface, coating surface, et al.) as functions of the material combination and thethickness of the interlayer were obtained. The physical meaning of the above results was alsodiscussed

Notes: The CAD/CAM software UGNX3 was used to implement tool positioning strategy inCNC milling. The Sturz strategy embedded in UG was replaced by curvature matching strategyusing the interface of the UG/OPEN API. The feed direction was constrained along u direction ofthe machined surface. An extra angle was added to eliminate the interference between the cutter andthe surface and some additional cutter locations were calculated to ensure the whole face to bemachined. After the previous algorithms applied in computer program, an optimized tool path wasgenerated. By the method of ZIG-ZAG mode, the efficiency was increased. The new strategy wasverified by the simulation and machining experiment. It showed that combining the new strategy inUG was feasible. The precision and efficiency could thus be improved

Relative content ofeach component was determined by area normalization. 31 compounds representing 99.99% of theextractives were identified. The main and abundant constituents were as: heptacosane (35.37%),2,2,4-trimethyl-3- (3,8,12,16-tetramethyl-heptadeca-3,7,11,15-tetraenyl)-cyclohexanol (16.25%),isochiapin B (12.24%), tetradecane, 2,6,10-trimethyl- (cas) (7.59%), dibutyl phthalate (5.66%),etratriacontane (cas) (4.89%), 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-methylpropyl) ester (cas) (3.74%),phosphoric acid, tributyl ester (cas) (2.92%), silicone polymer (2.47%), silicate anion tetramer(2.43%), 2,3-dihydro-benzofuran (2.01%), quercetin 7,3',4'-trimethoxy (1.04%), 1-heptatriacotanol(0.98%) and so on. Most components of superheated water extractives of fresh Phyllostachysheterocycla are abundant and healthy to human, indicating that there are natural health elements inPhyllostachys heterocycla

Notes: Steel-bonded cemented carbide GT35 was fabricated from natural ilmenite by in-situcarbothermic reduction and vacuum pressureless sintering. The effects of Mo-doped on themechanical properties and microstructures of GT35 composites were investigated. That the goodmechanical properties of steel-bonded cemented carbide GT35 with 9wt% Mo were obtained at thesame sintering condition that the density reached 6.223g/cm3 and the average bending strengthreached about 1155.6MPa after heat treatment, but the hardness dropped the lowest value HRC 60.94and the difference was not apparent with the change of Mo content. The additive of Mo is beneficial tobe refinement of carbide particle size, sphericity of grains and formation of compact composite.In-situ reduction of natural ilmenite was a feasible way to fabricate good performance compositeGT35 with a relative low cost

Notes: The extractives from the fresh E. urograndis wood were obtained through red 1%NaOHsolution. The chemical components for the extractives were identified by GC-MS. Relative content ofeach chemical component was determined by area normalization. Ninteen kinds of compoundsrepresenting 52.99% of the extractives which take on 36 peaks were identified. The result showed thatthe principal constituents were 9-octadecenoic acid (z)-, methyl ester (cas) (11.34%),3-diphenyl-5-(3-methoxyphenyl)pyrrole(10.77%), hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester (cas) (6.23%),9,12-octadecadienoic acid (z,z)-, methyl ester(6.16%), 9-octadecenoic acid (z)-, ethyl ester (cas)(3.17%), di-(9-octadecenoyl)-glycerol(3.14%), hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (cas) (1.93%), ethyllinoleate(1.81%), 3-acetoxychol-5-ene(1.62%), ethyl linoleate(1.60%), octadecanoic acid, methylester(1.05%)and so on. Therefore, this result reported in the present study for the first time providesthe scientific basis for the further exploitation and development of E. urograndis wood. At the sametime, the pollution prevention of the waste water of paper mill, wood industry would being realizedfrom the results
