Notes: Summary The oxygen exchange process of a polycrystalline sample of YBCO has been experimentally studied, during a thermal cycle in controlled atmosphere, by means of Raman spectroscopy. The sample, initially at room temperature, was placed in a specially designed optical oven where it was thermally cycled under controlled atmosphere. During the cycles, the Raman spectra were recorded at regular intervals in order to monitor the oxygen exchange process. The spectra show quite interesting features in all the stages of the process, characterized by the progressive disappearance of the familiar phonon Raman bands and the progressive increase of new structures. In the present paper, we discuss how the evolution of the Raman spectra can be interpreted in terms of migration of the oxygen atoms in the sample.

Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Viene presentato un breve resoconto sullo scattering traslazionale di liquidi semplici.
Notes: Summary A short review of translational light scattering of simple liquids is reported. The microscopic cross-section is compared with the equivalent expression for neutron scattering experiments (Van Hove, 1954). A survey of the fundamental experiments is reported and the possible application to the study of the dynamics of simple dense systems is analysed. The relevant approximations are critically discussed and the limits of the technique are established. The review mainly deals with classical or almost classical liquids, but also some extensions to quantum systems are considered.

Notes: Summary We have used a Raman microprobe technique for the characterisation and the diagnostic of YBCO superconducting thin films deposited by Pulsed-Laser Ablation (PLA) on MgO insulating substrates. Using polarisation analysis associated with sample rotations we developed a method for films orientation determination without any request for absolute calibration of the Raman spectra. The use of a bidimensional multichannel detector (OMA 4) allowed an overall detection time of 40 minutes. Each spectrum (shift range from 100 cm−1 to 700 cm−1) takes about 600 seconds. The results of this detection were used to determine the oxygen content, from the position of the Raman mode at 500 cm−1 Homogeneity was checked with the spatial resolution allowed by the dimension of the focused laser beam (10 μm).

Notes: Purpose - Aims to discuss how impedance-controlled parallel robots can effectively perform industrial assembly tasks. Design/methodology/approach - A new purely translational parallel robot has been designed to fulfil the requirements of industrial assembly tasks. The kinematic and dynamic models of the robot have been obtained in analytic form. A full-scale prototype has been realized within the Italian research programme PRIDE (Parallel Robots Interacting with Dynamic Environments). An impedance control algorithm based on the kinematic and dynamic models has been implemented on the control unit of the PRIDE prototype. The effectiveness of the impedance-controlled PKM has been evaluated performing the assembly of white goods components. Findings - The test results show that the combined use of impedance control and dynamic compensation applied to parallel kinematics machines allows to reduce remarkably the operational time compared to the currently used position-controlled industrial robots. Research limitations/implications - The experimental tests on the PRIDE prototype show the overall industrial feasibility of impedance-controlled parallel kinematics machines. Practical implications - The introduction of impedance-controlled PKMs may improve, with a relatively low cost, the level of automation of several production plants in which delicate operations requiring force control are still executed manually. Originality/value - While there is a large number of existing position-controlled PKMs, the experimental research about force-controlled or impedance-controlled PKMs is not widespread.
