Cu(II) Chelate Complexes of some Acetoacetates of Bivalent AlcoholsThe mono- and bis-acetoacetates 6 and 4 of 3-thia-1,5-pentanediol and the mono- and bisacetoacetates 7 and 5 of 1,5-pentanediol react with Cu(II) ions to form chelate complexes. The ratio Cu(II) ion to ligand is 1 : 2 for the light-green complexes 10 and 11 (prepared from 6 or 7, respectively) and 1 : 1 for the olive-green complexes 12 and 13 (prepared from 4 or 5, respectively). On account of these and further analytical data the complexes 10-13 are assumed to have a grid square basic structure as in the Cu(II) complex of ethyl acetoacetate. For the complexes 12 and 13 an additional intra- or inter-molecular cyclic arrangement is assumed. - If, instead of the esters 4 and 5, the bis(β-aminocrotonates) 1 and 2 of 3-thia-1,5-pentanediol or 1,5-pentanediol are treated with aqueous Cu(II)-acetate solutions, then the complexes 12 and 13 are formed in quantitative yield. In this connection the dependency of the yield of Cu(II) chelate complex on the pH of the reaction solution is discussed.
Notes:
