Notes:
Tandem SIMS studies have been carried out for three polymers - PET, PTFE and LDPE. A variety of collision target gases has been compared and their effectiveness in the construction of fragmentation patterns is considered. For PTFE clusters, xenon provided the most extensive fragmentation patterns, whilst for LPDE clusters, oxygen was preferred. Oxygen and sulphur hexafluoride proved quite reactive when employed with PTFE cluster ions. Using daughter ion and neutral loss data, extensive fragmentation patterns could be constructed.
