Description: Capital Redefined presents a unique perspective on the nature of “capital,” departing from the prevailing reductionist accounts. Hosseini and Gills offer an expanded perspective on Marxian value theory by addressing its main limitations and building their own integrative value theory. They argue that the current understanding of “value” must be re-examined and liberated from its subservient ties to capital while acknowledging the ways in which capital appropriates value. This is achieved by differentiating between “fetish value” created by capital and “true value” generated through various commons-based forms of coexistence. The authors propose a defetishization of value by rejecting the commonly accepted idea of its objectivity. They introduce their “commonist value theory,” which redefines capital as both the product and process of perverting the fundamental commoning causes of true value into sources of fetish value. Capital is theorized through a “modular” framework, where multiple intersecting processes constitute a comprehensive power structure, a “value regime,” representing an unprecedented degree of the domination of capital over life. Their theory reconciles two apparently incompatible views on the notion of value. One view encompasses all inputs involved in capitalist value production and conflates intrinsic and commodity values. The other warns against this conflation as it treats capital as an entity tightly associated only with commodity production and wage labor. The authors believe that establishing alternative forms of value creation based on normative principles of living in commons is crucial as an analytical base for criticizing existing power structures and economic systems. The book offers a theoretical foundation for transforming our life worlds toward “post-capitalist” futures. It appeals to scholars and students in various fields, such as political economy, capitalism, and post-capitalist studies, economic and political sociology, globalization, development studies, social ecology, and ecological philosophy.

Notes: Abstract Ti-6A1-4V shows distinct active-passive behaviour in phosphoric acid over a wide concentration range. The cathodic polarization curves are similar over a wide range of acid concentration and temperatures. The alloy undergoes active dissolution and turns passive in the negative potential region followed by a wide range of passivity at all acid concentrations at different temperatures. Increasing acid concentration up to 11 M results in an increase in critical current density (i cr). The passive current density (i p) increases up to an acid concentration of 9 M while at 13 M i cr and i p decrease appreciably. A significant increase in both i cr and i p occurs with increase in solution temperature. The passive specimen remained stable for a long time when exposed to phosphoric acid under open circuit conditions.

Notes: An investigation into the wear process of five polymers tested under different contact conditions is presented. Polymer pin on metal plate and metal pin on polymer plate configurations were used. The metal pin on polymer plate configuration gave significantly lower wear rates compared to that observed for the polymer pin on metal plate configuration. The results are discussed in terms of morphology of wear debris generated.

Notes: Results of phenomenological study into the forms of surface failure of poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) are presented. Surface failure of the polymer resulted from rolling contact fatigue produced in a model configuration consisting of a PMMA disc with nominally flat surface loaded against three steel balls able to roll free over the surface of the disc. It was found that the performance of the polymer under the test conditions used is influenced by lubricating medium and the main form of failure is of surface fatigue type. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Description: The distribution and abundance of high aquatic plants in the Gorganroud River was examined at five stations in four seasons (20 samples) over one year period during 2009-2010. We identified 21 species of aquatic plants from 21 genera, belonging to 9 families. These species were determined as 3 halophytic species (14.2%) and 18 high aquatic plants (85.7%).The highest species diversity was observed at Khajenafas, Aq qala and Chargoli stations(17, 13 and 11 species) respectively, The highest biomass of high aquatic plants were recorded in summer (for Inspection and Chargoli stations 11.5 and 10.1 g.m-2, respectively) and autumn (for the station of Inspection was 8.5 g.m-2 dry weight). The most dominant species were different in the investigated stations. At station 1 species Tamarix kotschyi, at station 2 species Juncus acutiflorus, at station 3 species Hordeum murinum hudson, at station 4 species Salicornia europaea L and at station 5 Juncus acutiflorus species were dominated.
