    Notes: Both advertising and sponsorship are key areas of marketing communications activity, though the latter has acted as a somewhat "Cinderella" subject. In the heightened and increasing consumer-oriented marketing communications world of the 1990s, this paper asks whether these two marketing communications methods exist in an uneasy alliance or strategic symbiosis. Given the press (both practitioner and academic) coverage concerning integrated marketing communications, it may seem self-evident that the latter alternative is preferred, but a rationale behind this preferstment is advanced. Notably, the shared conventions of the two communications activities constitute the text of their interactions. This sharing, or as we have termed it, a symbiotic relationship, leads in turn to the what can be described as the unity of a marketing communications culture, or its objective (managerial) mind.

    Notes: This study reports findings about British advertising agency managers' response patterns to a mail survey and four follow-up techniques (original, photocopy, postcard and letter), which were manipulated to determine their individual impact on response rate. Findings should provide original insights to mail survey researchers planning to sample advertising agency managers in reducing both non-response and sampling bias. The initial response rate was just over 18 per cent and four follow-up techniques altogether lifted the overall response rate to a little less than 32 per cent. There are several statistically significant differences of importance to mail researchers in reducing non-response bias and increasing response rate.

    Notes: In a constantly changing and increasingly globalized world, religion still plays a significant role in influencing social and consumer behavior. This study will analyze what influence religion and intensity of belief has on attitudes towards the advertising of particular controversial products and services. A questionnaire was distributed to 1,393 people across six different countries and resulting in samples of four main religious groups. The results indicated some statistically significant differences between the groups, which can have important implications for global marketers.

    Notes: Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to determine attitudes towards the advertising of certain controversial products/services and reasons for being offensive across four different countries, Malaysia, New Zealand, Turkey and the UK. Design/methodology/approach - This was achieved by analyzing the responses to a questionnaire that was distributed to a convenience sample of university students in the four countries. A total of 954 were sampled for this study. The results indicated that geography is not a major determinant of attitudes, and that religious and historical factors play a very important role. Findings - Of the 17 products presented, 11 resulted in similar answers for New Zealand and the UK, and seven were similar for Malaysia and Turkey. However, it was apparent that the two countries mostly populated by Muslims had some differences as Malaysia has a multicultural society that must make some allowances for other ethnic groups. It also appears that racism and racist images are of concern to all those sampled. Originality/value - The opening up of regional markets and the development of regional and global media, such as satellite television and the internet, will mean that marketers will try to take advantage of the associated benefits of a standardized approach to advertising and promotional activities. For those involved in international marketing, it is important that they are aware of possible differences and cultural sensitivities when entering a new market or undertaking a standardized mass-media campaign across a region, whether it be Australasia or Europe.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Vorliegende Arbeit stellt eine quantitative Anwendung der Metallblock-DTA (MBDTA) dar. Es wurden elektrisch Kalibrationen mit verschiedenen, innerhalb der Probe befindlichen Kalibrationserhitzern (Stift, Ring, Spirale) durchgeführt. Mit Hilfe dieser Anordnung wird die Auswertung der Ergebnisse durch die thermophysischen Eigenschaften der Probe erleichtert. Es wurde der Einfluß von Größe und Probendurchmesser, von Erhitzertyp, von Abstand zwischen Erhitzer und Thermoelement, mit anderen Worten von denjenigen Faktoren, die die Kalibration beeinflussen sowie der Einfluß der Wärmetransportgeometrie auf die Bestimmung der Schmelzwärme untersucht.
    Notes: Abstract This paper presents the quantitative application of the Metal Blocked Differential Thermal Analysis (MBDTA). Calibrations have been electrically carried out by using three types of calibration heaters (pen, ring and spiral), which are placed inside the sample. By means of this arrangement, thermophysical properties of the samples make the quantitative evaluation of the results easy. The influence of the size and sample diameter, the types of heater, the space between heater and thermocouple, in other words, the factors affecting calibration and the effect of the heat transfer geometry on the determination of the fusion heat have been investigated.

    Description: Emerging technologies offer new solutions to the construction industry, improving processes, enabling automation and effective decision-making mechanisms and changing current ways of work. Previous research has tended to consider a direct causal relationship between the emerging and prospective technologies and the future of construction. However, the future of construction will be influenced not only by the developments in the information technology (IT) industry, but also by other technological changes. Societal, economic, environmental and political factors will shape the future, together with emerging technologies. This paper presents a scenario-planning exercise that aimed to identify possible futures that the construction industry might face. In order to achieve the aims of the research, a literature review was carried out on scenario planning and future studies related to construction and construction IT, which was followed by a mini survey and two prospective workshops as part of the La Prospective scenario-planning approach. In a future study, it is important to understand the forces, issues and trends in order to inform and enable further thinking and action towards achieving a preferred future state whilst being prepared for what might be round the corner. Therefore, the paper first investigates the driving forces of change, main trends, issues and factors that might shape the future, focusing on factors related to society, technology, environment, economy and politics. Secondly, four future scenarios that were developed keeping these factors in mind are presented. The scenarios start from a global view and present the images of the future world in year 2030. They later focus on the construction industry, imagining how it will be shaped by the future world and trying to visualize the information and communication technology implications for construction. Finally, a preferred future scenario for 2030 is introduced based on the principle that the future can be influenced if we know what we want it to be. Focusing mainly on the IT vision, the paper concludes with recommendations in the areas related to innovation, communication and collaboration, education and training, process improvement, interoperability, user-centred IT and sustainability, in order to reach the desired state determined by the vision.

    Description: North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) is one of the most wide strike-slip faults in the world. It starts from the north of the Eagan Sea, namely Saros Gulf and extends to the east of Turkey, namely Karlıova, Bingöl. Various scientific studies based on GNSS and different techniques have been conducted on NAFZ. At the region, where is located at the center of NAFZ, several provinces, particularly Tokat and Amasya, and then some parts of Çorum, Ordu and Samsun, are the areas where tectonic activities occur significantly. Since the earthquakes happened between 1900 and 2021 have been considered, it can be seen that intense tectonic activities on the region have occurred. The aim of this study is to model the existing tectonic structure of the region with analysis based on GNSS observations. In this context, the study area to be subjected to the study is situated between latitudes of 39 and 41.5 degrees N and longitudes of 34 and 39 degrees E as including the wholes of Tokat and Amasya, some parts of Çorum, Ordu and Samsun. In order to prove the tectonic structure of the region, an optimum network including 32 stations, which the stations are the current stations involved in Turkish National Fundamental GPS Network (TUTGA) and CORS-TR network was designed in the study area. The data between 2009 and 2021 have been examined. The data evaluations and analysis of GNSS observations will be performed by Bernese v5.2 software. This study presents the preliminary analysis results.

    Description: In space geodetic techniques, the mapping functions (MFs) provide the relationship between zenith and slant tropospheric delays. The MFs are determined under the assumption of spherically layered atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is not spherically layered, and the asymmetry should be considered. Therefore, tropospheric gradients are taken into account. Nevertheless, tropospheric gradients alone can not fully represent the deviation from a spherically layered atmosphere, and hence cm level errors arise especially for low elevation angles. In this study, we present new approaches to modify the wet MF to reduce mismodelling of tropospheric delays. The delays in the study were calculated using ray-tracing algorithm based on ECMWF’s ERA5 dataset. We first analyzed the performances of the new approaches. Then, two Precise Point Positioning (PPP) simulation studies and a real case study were carried out for two different regions namely Germany and Türkiye. According to the results, the proposed approaches reduce the modelling errors up to by a factor 6 for both regions. Besides, simulation studies show that the approaches improve the accuracies of the ZTDs and heights. In the practical application however, we could not find a clear improvement in the PPP analyze and this might be related to the ERA5 which can not be regarded error-free.
