Notes: [Auszug] X-ray and differential thermal studies of some Indian bentonites and soils have yielded interesting results in this connexion. The samples studied are bentonites from (i) Kashmir, (ii) Nimlinadi and (iii) Barme, and black cotton soils from (iv) Satara and (v) Indore. The X-ray pattern of the clay ...

Notes: Abstract N-bromosuccinimide oxidation of cyclopentanone in acidic media in presence of mercuric acetate has been made. A zero order dependance to N-bromosuccinimide and a first order dependence to cyclopentanone and hydrogen ion concentration has been observed. Ionic strength, mercuric acetate and succinimide has negligible effect while methanol addition has a positive effect. Various rate parameters have been computed and 1,2-cyclopentanedione identified as the end product. A suitable mechanism in confirmity with the above observations has been proposed.

Notes: Abstract A systematic kinetic study on the oxidation of glycine by N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in presence of mercuric acetate in acetic acid—water media has been made. Near first order dependence inNBS and glycine and near inverse first order dependence in hydrogen ion concentrations have been observed. A negligible ionic strength effect and a positive dielectric effect have been observed. Various rate parameters have been computed and hydrocyanic acid identified as the end product. On the basis of the kinetic data, a mechanism of the reaction has been proposed.

3. Sporenbildung mit markierten Acetaten.

Notes: Abstract Alkaline media oxidation of leucine by chloramine-T has been investigated. A first order dependence in chloramine-T and leucine and a near inverse first order dependence in hydroxide ion has been observed. Ionic strength had negligible effect while the effect of methanol addition was slightly negative. The oxidation process has been shown to proceed via two paths, one involving p-toluenesulfochloramide as the main oxidising species and the other involving hypochlorite ion, each interacting in a slow step with a leucine molecule leading to formation of monochloroleucine acid, which subsequently interacts with another molecule of p-toluenesulfochloramide or hypochlorite ion resp., yielding products.
