Description: 〈title xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"〉Abstract〈/title〉〈p xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xml:lang="en"〉Mercury is the smallest and innermost planet of our solar system and has a dipole‐dominated internal magnetic field that is relatively weak, very axisymmetric and significantly offset toward north. Through the interaction with the solar wind, a magnetosphere is created. Compared to the magnetosphere of Earth, Mercury's magnetosphere is smaller and more dynamic. To understand the magnetospheric structures and processes we use in situ MESSENGER data to develop further a semi‐empiric model of the magnetospheric magnetic field, which can explain the observations and help to improve the mission planning for the BepiColombo mission en‐route to Mercury. We present this semi‐empiric KTH22‐model, a modular model to calculate the magnetic field inside the Hermean magnetosphere. Korth et al. (2015, 〈ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.1002/2015JA021022"〉https://doi.org/10.1002/2015JA021022〈/ext-link〉, 2017, 〈ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="https://doi.org/10.1002/2017gl074699"〉https://doi.org/10.1002/2017gl074699〈/ext-link〉) published a model, which is the basis for the KTH22‐model. In this new version, the representation of the neutral sheet current magnetic field is more realistic, because it is now based on observations rather than ad‐hoc assumptions. Furthermore, a new module is added to depict the eastward ring shaped current magnetic field. These enhancements offer the possibility to improve the main field determination. In addition, analyzing the magnetic field residuals allows us to investigate the field‐aligned currents and their possible dependencies on external drivers. We see increasing currents under more disturbed conditions inside the magnetosphere, but no clear dependence on the z‐component of the interplanetary magnetic field nor on the magnetosheath plasma 〈italic〉β〈/italic〉.〈/p〉

Notes: A new model for the formation of heterojunctions in polycrystalline CuInSe2 thin films on the basis of surface analysis experiments is presented. In situ photoemission measurements of CuInSe2 clearly show the existence of an In-rich n-type surface layer on samples relevant for solar-cell devices. Furthermore, this layer has been identified as an ordered vacancy compound (OVC) with a band gap of about 1.3 eV. The previous model of the CuInSe2/CdS solar cell with a p-n heterojunction between p-type CuInSe2 and n-type CdS is replaced by the model of a chalcopyrite/defect chalcopyrite heterojunction between p-type bulk CuInSe2 and the In-rich n-type OVC. The existence of this junction was proven directly by evaporating an ohmic metal contact onto the surface n-type layer and measuring the spectral quantum efficiency and electron-beam-induced current of this device. The band offsets of CuInSe2-based devices have been determined.

Notes: The highest conversion efficiencies of solar cells based on Cu(In,Ga)Se2 have been achieved using multilayer CdS/ZnO front contacts. The formation of the heterojunction interface between polycrystalline ZnO and CdS has been studied with x-ray and ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy. The valence band offset between ZnO and CdS has been determined to be 1.2 eV. No chemical reactions at the interface between ZnO and CdS have been detected up to 200 °C. In order to obtain a standard reference for the band discontinuities the valence band offsets of ZnO and CdS relative to Ge have been measured.

Notes: Epitaxial CuIn3Se5 layers were grown on CuInSe2/Si(111) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Photoemission spectra of (112)-oriented CuIn3Se5 and CuInSe2 epitaxial layers were studied and the structures in the upper valence band are correlated with the Cu 3d and Se 4p density of states. The main valence band of CuInSe2 exhibits the three peak structure (consistent with theory) while a broadband with a shoulder is observed for the CuIn3Se5 phase. Electron channeling and x-ray diffraction confirmed the epitaxial growth of (112)-oriented layer. Surface and bulk composition analyses, position of valence band maxima, and a Se related vibrational mode at 153 cm−1 in Raman scattering measurements established the growth of the CuIn3Se5 phase. © 1994 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Genetically determined Con-A receptors were found to be present on erythrocyte membranes of sheep and goat. A two allelic system Con-A and con-a could be demonstrated. Con-A receptors are also detectable on membranes of sheep lymphocytes, as well as on pig lymphocytes and granulocytes.
