Station 9.3 on Daresbury Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS) was constructed as an integrated facility for Materials Science investigations. The station will eventually be able to carry out scanning extended x-ray-absorption fine structure (EXAFS), energy dispersive EXAFS, and powder diffraction measurements. In addition, there will be a number of different sample presentations and environments available such as high-temperature/pressure catalysis, reflectivity, high pressure. The scanning EXAFS monochromator and vertically focusing mirror is the first part of the instrument to be completed. The performance of the monochromator is demonstrated paying attention to its stability and accuracy. Two modes of operation are demonstrated: high aperture, high resolution and variable resolution, and vertical focusing. Some results from the use of the reflectivity rig are presented demonstrating one of the sample presentation techniques. In addition, results from measurements using a high pressure cell are included.
