Notes: Abstract Control design of nonlinear discrete-time uncertain systems with (possibly fast) uncertain parameters is considered. We study the effect of only partially compensating the uncertainty. The optimal choice of a design parameter, which indicates the amount of compensation, is recommended.

Notes: Abstract Robust control designs for a discrete Takagi and Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model are proposed. The T-S fuzzy model contains (possibly fast) time-varying uncertainty. First, a switching-type robust control is shown to stabilize the T-S fuzzy model asymptotically. Second, a saturation-type robust control is shown to render the T-S model practically stable. In both designs, only the bound of uncertainty is needed. The effectiveness of proposed designs is analyzed rigorously and illustrated by simulations.

Notes: Abstract We consider a class of large-scale uncertain delay systems. The uncertain parameter vector in the system is possibly fast time-varying. It may be nonlinear in the system dynamics. No statistical or fuzzy information of the uncertainty is known. Based on only the possible bound of the uncertain parameter, a decentralized linear robust control is proposed, which renders the system asymptotically stable.

Notes: Summary Methods are described for the isolation of galactosyl hydroxylysine and glucosylgalactosyl hydroxylysine from collagen and for the quantitative analysis of these hydroxylysine glycosides. The isolation procedure, based upon gel filtration and preparative ionpaired reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, is simple and rapid in comparison with existing methods, allowing the production of tens of milligrams of each glycoside in a single day. Quantitative analysis of the hydroxylysine glycosides is effected by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with precolumn derivatization (usingo-phthal-dialdehyde) and fluorescence detection.

Notes: Summary The temperature effect on the retention of fullerenes in the range 80°C to −70°C in liquid chromatography (LC) has been examined using octadecylsilica stationary phases (ODS). It has been found that the maximum retention temperature lies around −10°C with a highly carbon loaded ODS phase. Solid state CPMAS NMR measurements on the stationary phases indicated that the relaxation time at the 30 ppm methylene signal changes with the temperature and has a minimum relaxation time at the temperature which closely matches the maximum retention temperature observed in chromatography. The interpretation of both NMR spectroscopic and LC chromatographic data are discussed.

Notes: Summary The chromatographic retention behaviour of two liquidcrystal bonded phases have been evaluated using polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as the probe samples in reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The results clearly indicate that these phases have better planarity and shape recognition capabilities than commercially-avaialble polymeric octadecylsilica (ODS) phases whose strong planarity and shape selectivities were found earlier. It can also be concluded from the chromatographic observations that the shape recognition capability of these phases is dependent on both mobile phase composition and column temperature, but that the effect of mobile phase and temperature on the shape selectivity work independently. The retention behaviour can be explained by changes in the phase structure with changes of eluent composition and temperature.

Notes: Summary The temperature-dependency of the separation of fullerenes in liquid chromatography (LC) has been examined using various alkyl bonded stationary phases. It has been found that a maximum retention temperature exists with long alkyl bonded stationary phases, whereas there is no similar effect with the newly synthesized alkyl bonded phases which have two phenyl groups at the base of the bonded phase. The interpretation of the retention behavior of fullerenes in the low temperature region on alkyl bonded stationary phases is discussed using information obtained by CP-MAS solid-state NMR spectroscopy and LC.

Notes: Summary For the first time calix[6]arene has been chemically combined with silica gel via a longer spacer to prepare calix[6]arene-bonded silica gel stationary phase for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The separation of positional isomers and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the calix[6]arene-bonded phase was achieved with methanol-water as mobile phase. Some nucleosides were also separated on the bonded phase. The reversed-phase chromatographic performance of the bonded phase was studied. The results showed that the calix[6]arene-bonded phase was highly hydrophobic. A possible separation mechanism has been proposed.
