Notes:
The autoxidation of neutral or slightly acidic solutions of Fe2+ has been investigated. At pH values below 6,5 the reaction presumably takes place between FeOH+ and O2. Sulfosalicyclic acid strongly catalyses this autoxidation. The kinetics of this reaction at pH values between 5,0 and 6,0 have been studied. The active FeII particles are the chelates FeIISSS- and FeII(SSS)24-. There is good evidence that prior to the actual oxidation a complex with O2 is formed.
