    Notes: Abstract The liquid thermal conductivity of mixtures of HFC-32/125 and HFC-32/134a was measured using the transient hot-wire apparatus in the temperature ranges from 213 to 293 K and from 193 to 313 K, respectively, in the pressure range from 2 to 30 MPa and with HFC-32 mass fractions of 0.249, 0.500, and 0.750 for each system. The uncertainty of the thermal conductivity was estimated to be ±0.7%. For practical applications, the thermal conductivity data for the two mixtures were represented by a polynomial in temperature, pressure, and mass fraction of HFC-32 with a standard deviation of 1.0%.

    Notes: Abstract A Five-channel far-infrared (FIR) hydrogen cyanide (HCN) laser interferometer was developed to measure plasma electron density profile on the HT-7 superconducting tokamak. The structure of the five-channel FIR laser interferometer is described. The laser source used in the interferometer was a continuous wave glow discharge HCN laser with 3.4 m cavity length and 100 mW power output at 337 μm wavelength. The temporal resolution was 0.1 ms and the detection sensitivity was 1/12 fringe. Preliminary experimental results measured by the interferometer on HT-7 tokamak are reported.

    Notes: Abstract The liquid thermal conductivities of the CFC alternatives, HFC-125, and HCFC-141b measured by a transient hot-wire apparatus with one bare platinum wire are reported in the temperature ranges from 193 to 333 K (HFC-125, CHF2, CF3) and from 193 to 393 K (HCFC-141b,CCI2F-CF3), in the pressure ranges from 2 to 30 MPa (HFC-125) and from 0.1 to 30 MPa (HCFC-141b), respectively. The results have been estimated to have an accurancy of ±0.5%. The liquid thermal conductives obtained have been correlated by a polynomial of temperature and pressure which can represent the experimental results within the standard deviations of 0.49% for HFC-125 and 0.46% for HCFC-141b, respectively.

    Notes: Abstract Measurements of the thermal conductivity of HFC-32, HFC-125, and HFC-134a were carried out for the first time in both solid and liquid phases at the saturation pressure at room temperature and in the temperature ranges from 120 to 263, from 140 to 213, and from 130 to 295 K, respectively. A transient hot-wire instrument using one bare platinum wire was employed for measurements, with an uncertainty of less than ±2%. The experimental results demonstrated that the thermal conductivity of HFC-32, HFC-125, and HFC-134a in the solid phase showed a positive temperature dependence. For HFC-32 and HFC-125, there were big jumps between the solid and the liquid thermal conductivity at the melting point. But for HFC-134a, the solid and liquid thermal conductivity at the melting point is almost-continuous.

    Notes: Abstract A recently developed scheme, based on considerations of hard-sphere theory, is used for the simultaneous prediction of the thermal conductivity and the viscosity of binary and ternary HFC refrigerant mixtures, consisting of HFC-32, HFC-125, and HFC-134a. In this prediction scheme, the hypothetical molecular parameters of HFC refrigerant mixtures were assumed to be the molar average of the pure component values. The close agreement between the predicted values and the experimental results of thermal conductivity and viscosity demonstrate the predictive power of this scheme.

The thermal conductivity has an estimated uncertainty of ±0.7%. For engineering purposes, the thermal conductivity data were correlated using a polynomial in temperature and pressure for each mixture with a standard deviation of 0.6%.

    Notes: Abstract The ferroelectric and dielectric properties of ferroelectromagnet Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 (PFN) ceramics and thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) have been investigated systematically. PFN ceramics experienced a para-ferroelectric transition and a para-antiferromagnetic transition at 380 K and 145 K, respectively. At room temperature, it has an electrical remnant polarization of 11.5 μC/cm2 and a coercive field of 4.04 kV/cm. The dielectric behaviors show characteristics of diffusive phase transition at a wide temperature range around 380 K. Anomalies in the dielectric constant and loss tangent have been observed near the Neel temperature of 145 K, indicating a coupling between the ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic orders in PFN ceramics. At room temperature, the PFN films exhibited a remnant electric polarization of 7.4 μC/cm2, a coercive field of 10.5 kV/cm, and a dielectric constant of 486 at frequency of 10 kHz, indicating their potential applications in memory devices.

    Notes: Abstract The Weibull stress model for cleavage fracture of ferritic steels requires calibration of two micromechanics parameters $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ . Notched tensile bars, often used for such calibrations at lower-shelf temperatures, do not fracture in the transition region without extensive plasticity and prior ductile tearing. However, deep-notch bend and compact tension specimens tested in the transition region can provide toughness values under essentially small-scale yielding (SSY) conditions to support Weibull stress calibrations. We show analytically, and demonstrate numerically, that a nonuniqueness arises in the calibrated values, i.e., many pairs of $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ provide equally good correlation of critical Weibull stress values with the distribution of measured (SSY) fracture toughness values. This work proposes a new calibration scheme to find $$(m,\sigma _u ) $$ which uses toughness values measured under both low and high constraint conditions at the crack front. The new procedure reveals a strong sensitivity to m and provides the necessary micromechanical values to conduct defect assessments of flawed structural components operating at or near the calibration temperature in the transition region. Results of a parameter study illustrate the expected values of m for a typical range of material flow properties and toughness levels. A specific calibration is carried out for a mild structural steel (ASTM A36).

    Description: A data sample of events from proton-proton collisions with at least two jets, and two isolated same-sign or three or more charged leptons, is studied in a search for signatures of new physics phenomena. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of $$137{,{ext {fb}}^{-1}} $$137fb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of $$13,{ext {TeV}} $$13TeV, collected in 2016–2018 by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed using a total of 168 signal regions defined using several kinematic variables. The properties of the events are found to be consistent with the expectations from standard model processes. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are set on cross sections for the pair production of gluinos or squarks for various decay scenarios in the context of supersymmetric models conserving or violating R parity. The observed lower mass limits are as large as $$2.1,{ext {TeV}} $$2.1TeV for gluinos and $$0.9,{ext {TeV}} $$0.9TeV for top and bottom squarks. To facilitate reinterpretations, model-independent limits are provided in a set of simplified signal regions.
