    Notes: Abstract Three sex pheromonal components, (Z)-11-hexadecenal (Z11–16:Ald), (Z)-11-hexadecenol (Z11–16:OH), and hexadecanal (16:Ald), in a ratio of 88.0∶7.2∶4.8, were identified from ovipositor extracts of the fulvous clover moth,Heliothis maritima Grasl. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) by gas chromatographymass spectrometry. In addition, trace amounts of (Z)-9-hexadecenal (Z9–16:Ald) were detected in the extracts by GC. A blend of Z11–16:Ald, Z11–16:OH and 16:Ald in a ratio of 100∶6∶3, as well as in combination with 0.1 or 1 part Z9–16:Ald was tested at 0.01, 0.1, 1.0 and 10.0 μg doses in a flight tunnel. In flight tunnel tests male behavioral responses elicited by 0.1 or 1.0 μg doses of the 100∶6∶3∶1 blend were similar to those elicited by an ovipositor extract at 2 female equivalents. Deletion of Z9–16:Ald from the blend at 0.1 μg dose caused a decrease in the male response. In the field test, however, presence or absence of Z9–16:Ald did not significantly influence the number of males trapped in sticky traps with rubber septa containing 100 μg of the respective blends.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé A partir de femelles d'E. zinckenella d'origines hongroise et égyptienne, nous avons isolé quatre composés par chromatographie en phase gazeuse avec ionisation de flamme et électroantennographie (EAD): l'acétate de tétradécanyl, l'acétate (Z)-11-tétradécényl, l'acétate (E)-11-tétradécényl et l'acétate (Z)-11-tétradécényl. Les acétates monoinsaturés donnent les meilleures réponses en EAG parmi une série d'acétates tétradécényls et de tétradécénols. Les quatre composés mélangés dans les mêmes proportions que dans l'extrait de la phéromone ont attiré un nombre significatif de mâles tant en Egypte qu'en Hongrie. Dans un test préliminaire de soustraction, la meilleure capture a été réalisée par le mélange ternaire d'acétates monoinsaturés.
    Notes: Abstract Four compounds, tetradecyl acetate, (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate were identified from female sex pheromone extracts of Hungarian and Egyptian lima-bean pod borers (Etiella zinckenella Tr., Lepidoptera: Phycitidae) by gas chromatography with flame ionization (FID) and electroantennographic (EAD) detection. In EAG studies these monoun-saturated acetates gave the best responses in a series of other tetradecenyl acetates and tetradecenols. The four component blend of the identified components in similar ratios as in the pheromone extract attracted significant numbers of male lima-bean pod borers in both Hungary and Egypt. In a preliminary subtraction test best capture was achieved by the ternary mixture of the monounsaturated acetates.

Die beste Lockwirkung auf Männchen des Springwurmwicklers wird erzielt, wenn man dem Gemisch der drei ungesättigten Acetate E-9-Dodecen-1-ol zufügt, welches als elektrophysiologisch hoch wirksam bekannt ist, aber in den Drüsen nicht nachgewiesen werden konnte.
    Notes: Abstract Female sex pheromone gland extracts of Sparganothis pilleriana contain E-9-dodecenyl acetate, E-11-tetradecenyl acetate, Z-11-tetradecenyl acetate and saturated acetates of 12 to 24 carbons. Addition of E-9-dodecen-1-ol to the blend of the three unsaturated acetates is necessary to obtain maximum male catch.

    Notes: Abstract  Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells were immobilized on preformed cellulose beads by adsorption. The fermentation capacity of the immobilized yeast cells was found to be practically independent of the hydrogen ion concentration between pH 3.1 and 6.25. The fermentation capacity was maximal at 30 °C. The immobilized yeast cells were used for continuous production of ethanol in a fluidized-bead reactor. The average values characteristic for the process were an ethanol concentration of 41.9±0.1 g l-1, a fermentation efficiency of 82.9±2.1% and a volumetric productivity of 3.94±0.52 g l-1 h-1.

    Notes: Abstract Cross-linked montmorillonite was prepared by reacting homoionic sodium form of bentonite (Na-M) from Istenmezeje (Hungary) with high molecular weight polyhydroxy-aluminum complex. The complex was prepared by controlled hydrolysis of alumina macrocation. The intercalated clay (Na-Al-M) was thermally treated to convert the hydroxy cations to oxide pillars. The pillared products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourie transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), (thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermal analysis-mass spectrometry (TA-MS) methods. The specific surface area as well as pore size and pore structure distribution of samples were measured by nitrogen, water and carbon tetrachloride adsorption, and the heat of immersion was also determined. The pillared products were characterized by d(001) reflections of 19 Å, which is stable even at 500°C. The interaction of polymer alumina caused several changes in the obtained FTIR spectra due to the formation of different new bonds. The rate of dehydroxylation of the pillared product is very moderate, the water release occurred in different temperature ranges according to TA-MS results. Dehydration starts at interfaces and at the wall of pores, occurring nearly with uniform rate at 250-500°C. DTA curve indicates the formation of a new phase at 950°C. The obtained surface area of the pillared product by nitrogen adsorption becomes larger (208 m2 g-1) with respect to the non pillared clay, which decreases less than 10% upto 700°C. The pillared sample has a definite pore structure, the quantity of micropores (0-40 Å) decreased with increasing of macropores (〉1000 Å). The obtained domestic pillared montmorillonite possesses a high degree of thermal stability and may be used as adsorbent.
