    Notes: This study investigates the effects of CrAl underlayer and intermediate layer on the magnetic properties, crystallographic texture, and thermal stability of CoCrPtTa thin film media. Enhancement of coercivity and thermal stability factor of CoCrPtTa/CrAlx thin film media were observed when the Al concentration in the CrAl underlayer was varied from 0 to 14 at. %. We also observed an improvement in the in-plane crystallographic texture and a reduction in the magnetic switching volume and intergrain interaction. Results from the interdiffusion study using Auger depth profiling analysis, and ΔM measurement showed that the decrease of switching volume and intergrain interaction may be attributed to Al diffusion and/or Al-enhanced Cr diffusion into the grain boundary of the magnetic layer. Compared to CoCrPtTa/Cr media, we found that high coercivity, good in-plane crystallographic texture, and magnetic isolation for CoCrPtTa/CrAl media could be achieved at lower substrate temperature. This study has also shown that a CrAl intermediate layer could be used to further enhance the magnetic, crystallographic texture, and thermal stability properties of the CoCrPtTa thin film media. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: The effect of thermal energy (kBT), which has been found to play some important roles in the magnetic properties of recently developed antiferromagnetically coupled media, is described. It was observed that the thermal energy helps to obtain an antiparallel configuration of moments at remanence. Therefore, a reduction in the remnant moment–thickness product (Mrδ) is observed, even for smaller values of J (interface coupling constant) than those used in simulations that do not consider thermal energy. The magnetic viscosity measurement helps to distinguish the magnetization decay behavior of the top and bottom layers. The magnetic moments of top and bottom layers show maximum decay at different fields and the decay rates approximately scale with their thickness. Viscosity results also point out that the magnetization reversal of the bottom layer should occur in the first quadrant, in order to obtain a low noise and thermally stable media. Micromagnetic simulation was performed by including thermal effects. In that case, Mrδ reduction could be obtained for smaller values of J than in the case where thermal energy is not included in the simulation. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: On the basis of a micromagnetic model, magnetization reversal in two antiferromagnetically coupled ferromagnetic layers (10 nm t1/0.9 nmM/t2 nm films with t2=2, 3, 4, 5 nm, here t1 and t2 are the top and bottom layers, respectively, and M the spacer) with the same random anisotropy arrangement can be represented by a computer simulation. The calculation indicates that the appearance of a full antiferromagnetic coupling at remanence requires the antiferromagnetic coupling constant j=−3.5 erg/cm2 for the 10 nm t1/0.9 nmM/3 nm t2, films and it needs a large j value if t2 increases for the case of Ku2=Ku1=1×106 erg/cm3 and Ms1=Ms2=400 emu/cm3. Hc follows the equation Hc=−0.755j/Mst1 (j〈0). Why the calculated Hc values deviate from Hcmax=−j/Mst1 is discussed. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: In situ ordered FePt thin films with face-centered-tetragonal (fct)-(001) texture have been prepared by magnetron sputtering the FePt layer onto the Cr100−xRux underlayer at relatively low temperature. The dependence of FePt texture on the Ru content in the Cr underlayer and the substrate temperature is investigated. Addition of Ru in Cr underlayer results in the formation of the FePt ordered phase in a lower substrate temperature (350 °C) with c-axis orientation perpendicular to the film plane. Good perpendicular magnetic properties are obtained in films with Cr91Ru9 underlayer. A thin Pt intermediate layer is introduced between the FePt layer and the CrRu underlayer, which is found to effectively resist the Cr diffusion from the CrRu underlayer into the FePt layer and results in better FePt fct-(001) texture and improved magnetic properties. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Contribution of thermal energy, has been included in the micromagnetic simulation of laminated antiferromagnetically coupled (LAC) media. The antiferromagnetic coupling constant, J, required to obtain Mrt reduction in the existing simulation studies (T=0 K) of LAC media is much higher than the experimental values. In this letter, we describe some experimental results, which point out that the contribution of thermal energy in Mrt reduction is significant. Consequently, we find that the values of J and the reversal fields are comparable to the experimental results, when thermal energy (T=300 K) is included in the simulation. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Experimental methods to obtain remnant moment-thickness product (Mrδ) reduction in the laminated antiferromagnetically coupled (LAC) recording media is described. The results indicate that the reduction in Mrδ (or, indirectly, a reduction in noise) can be obtained by altering the antiferromagnetic coupling constant J, or by the parameters of the underlayer such as anisotropy constant (Ku2), thickness (t2), etc. A method to enhance J by intrinsic means is proposed by which a high exchange field of about 1900 Oe can be obtained. Thermal energy has been found to help in obtaining a Mrδ reduction in LAC media. Substrates with lower surface roughness also enhance the Mrδ reduction. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: A layered structure to improve the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling constant (J) in laminated antiferromagnetically coupled (LAC) media is proposed. This structure has a much larger thermal stability in comparison to simple LAC structures. It also improves the coercivity and decreases the remnant moment-thickness product to achieve a high resolution and a low pulse width. The recording measurements indicate that this structure has a slightly larger noise than the simple LAC structures. However, its overall signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is comparable to that of the simple LAC structures. High SNR and much higher thermal stability make this structure suitable for ultrahigh areal densities. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Abstract Purpose. The aim of the study was to prepare stealth and remoteloading proliposome (SRP-L) to carry doxorubicin (DXR) and evaluatethe pharmacokinetics, acute toxicity, and anticancer effect of DXRcarried with SRP-L. Methods. SRP-L was transparent solution. When SRP-L was injectedinto 0.9% NaCl aqueous solution containing DXR, liposomes formedand automatically loaded DXR (SRP-L-DXR). The long circulation ofSRP-L-DXR was evaluated using the pharmacokinetics ofSRP-L-DXR, cardiolipin liposomal DXR (CL-DXR) and free DXR (F-DXR).The acute toxicity and anticancer effect of SRP-L-DXR were evaluatedin C57BL/6 mice and murine hystocytoma M5076 tumor model. Results. The average diameter of SRP-L-DXR in pure water was112.9 ± 8.6 (nm) and the encapsulation efficiency of SRP-L-DXRwas 96.5 ± 0.2% in pure water, 95.5 ± 0.1% in 5% glucose and 98.01± 0.6% in 0.9% NaCl. The plasma concentration of SRP-L-DXR wasmuch higher than those of F-DXR and CL-DXR. Compared with thatof F-DXR, the SRP-L-DXR had lower acute toxicity and its anticancereffects depended upon the therapeutic treatment. Conclusions. A novel proliposome (SRP-L) was developed, whichcould automatically load DXR and form SRP-L-DXR with excellentcharacteristics. SRP-L-DXR had lower acute toxicity but was notalways more effective for the treatment of the ascitic M5076 thanF-DXR.
