    Notizen: The electron spin resonance (ESR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of as-grown and air heat treated CdTe thin films deposited by the solution growth method are studied. A single isotropic ESR absorption line at g=2.0002 attributed to Cd+ (I=0) is obtained on heating the films in air at and above 300 °C. Line intensity increases from 300 °C and reaches maximum at 500 °C beyond which it decreases. Electron diffraction studies of the as-grown CdTe films showed the presence of both the zinc blende and the wurtzite phases, whereas those of the films heated in air showed only the zinc blende phase but along with additional phases: TeO2 (observed at 300 °C) and CdTeO3 (observed at 550 °C).

    Notizen: The genotypes of Avena sativa were crossed to A. magna Murph. et Terrell, from the sterile pentapliod F1 amphiploids were successfully developed after colchicine treatment. The C1 plants were observed for their morphology, cytology and fertility. These plants were characterized by longer and broader glumes, swollen pedicel attachment, pubescent lemmas, bold seeds and persistent spikelets. Other characters, viz., final plant height, rachis length, peduncle length and spikelets per panicle were intermediate. All plants hail the chromosome number 2n = 70 or close to. 7C. Due to stickiness of chromosomes, meiosis of only two decaploid plants could be studied in detail. The average chromosome Association was 1.3 I + 28.56 II + 1.4 III + 1.77 IV + 0.07 VI and 0.13 I + 28.7 II + 0.14 III + 2.09 IV + 0.59 VI; but in some cells up to 35 bivalents were observed. Seed set as well as pollen fertility and size exhibited great variation.

    Notizen: In a backcrossing programme to transfer desirable characters from wild Avena maroccana Gdgr. to cultivated oats, A. sativa L., meiotically stable plants in BC1F3 and BC2F2 progenies were isolated. The recovery of stable genotypes with 2n = 6×= 42 chromosomes indicated that two backcrosses are enough for such a programme. The cytological observations in various backcross generations are presented and discussed.

    Notizen: Summary On the basis that unbound concentration better correlates with response than total plasma or blood concentration, the inter- and intra-subject variability in the distribution of cyclosporin within blood and to plasma components was studied in renal transplant patients. Pharmacokinetic aspects were also studied. Blood samples were analysed from patients who received the drug both by a 72-h i.v. infusion and orally (7 mg·kg−1 twice daily). Steady-state was reached within 18 h of starting the i.v. infusion; the plasma data were best fitted by a biexponential equation with half-times of 0.13–1.02 h and 4.3–13.9 h, associated with the two phases. The mean plasma clearance was 700 ml/min. Concentrations during the infusions measured by RIA and HPLC were comparable. Oral profiles showed rapid and extensive absorption. The peak plasma concentrations were 1460–1880 µg·l−1 and occurred 2–4 h after dosing, with bioavailability estimates of 41–113%. Concentrations measured by RIA were higher than by HPLC. Blood-to-plasma concentration ratio measurements of cyclosporin at 37°C decreased with increasing plasma concentration and increased with haematocrit. Fraction unbound, measured by ultracentrifugation, was in the range 0.042–0.122 with an average of 0.068, and varied little in some patients but showed systematic changes with time in others. Cyclosporin binding was found to be related not only to the triglyceride but, more particularly, to the cholesterol-related lipoproteins in plasma. Monitoring cholesterol may be helpful in identifying patients with extremes in binding or with widely varying binding.

    Notizen: Abstract By appropriate modifications of existing precipitation methods, a sample of calcium vanadate apatite, Ca10(VO4)6(OH)2 was prepared at 110°C. It was characterized through X-ray, electron microscopic, infrared and thermoanalytical analyses in addition to chemical analysis. Equilibrating the sample in buffered aqueous media at 37° C, the solubility was measured using microanalytical techniques of Ca2+ and VO4 3− present in the saturated solutions after separating the colloidal component of the solute. Duration of equilibration for the attainment of saturation of the solution of the sample was obtained from a study on its dissolution kinetics. The pK ip of calcium vanadate apatite was found to be 107.09. The investigation showed that pK ip was independent of the presence of the common ions.

    Notizen: Abstract The substituted apatites Ca10(PO4)6(1−x)(VO4)6x (OH)2 and Pb10(PO4)6(1−x)(VO4)6x (OH)2, where x is the fraction of vanadate, were prepared in the powdered microcrystalline nature. The X-ray diffraction patterns and the infrared spectra of these substituted apatites were recorded. The analysis of the measurements established that the unit cell parameters did not vary smoothly with the degree of substitution as expected by the Vegard's Law. Two different types of linear behaviour in the two regions 0 to 50% and 50 to 100% were present. Hence, this implies the inadequacy of the Vegard's Law when applied to the whole range of substitutions.

    Notizen: Abstract The forward energy flow cross section is described in terms of the projectile-nucleon abrasion probability which is calculated in the impact parameter representation within the framework of the Glauber multiple scattering formalism. Realistic nuclear densities and the nucleon-nucleon inelastic cross section have been used in the calculation. The recent WA80 data are in reasonable agreement with the calculation. A simple relationship has been obtained between the abrased nucleons from the target and projectile and the zero degree energy.
