Abstract This study examines the relationship between involvement in the Women's Liberation Movement and voluntary childlessness. Data from two separate probability samples of university women were used to test the hypothesis that involvement in the Women's Liberation Movement is positively related to actual and expected voluntary childlessness. Analysis reveals that a pattern exists which is supportive of the hypothesis but the relationship is not a strong one. In addition, the majority of women, regardless of involvement in the Movement, have or expect to have at least one child.
