Diazido Iodate(I): Preparation, I. R. Spectrum, and Crystal Structure of PPh4[I(N3)2]PPh4[I(N3)2] was prepared from PPh4N3 and IN3 in CH2Cl2. With X-ray diffraction data collected at 21°C and at -90°C the crystal structure was determined and refined. PPh4 [I(N3)2] crystallizes in the space group I2 with 2 formula units per unit cell; the lattice constants at 21°C are a = 1499, b = 800, c = 1006 pm and β = 91.7°. The structure consists of PPh4+ cations having symmetry 4 and [N3—I—N3]- anions having symmetry 2. The azido groups seem to be bent (angle N—N—N 151°), but exact details of the anion structure may be blurred due to a possible packing disorder which manifests itself by large and strongly anisotropic temperature factors of two N atoms even at low temperature. The i.r. spectra of NMe4[I(N3)2] and PPh4[I(N3)2] are reported and assigned.
Notes:
