Notes:
Pycnidia developed within 21 days on pieces of straw inoculated with Septoria nodorum or S. tritici when these were placed among wheat seedlings in the field in mid-November. As a result of inoculation In this manner infection of young plants readily occurred, although plants In control plots 12 m away remained healthy. S. nodorum can be transported across paths 0·92 m wide and relatively free from vegetation. The possibility of spores of S. nodorum and S. tritici being transported in water droplets for longer distances is discussed.
