Abstract Fatty acids were analyzed in the producer of monensins A and B, Streptomyces cinnamonensis C-100-5, and its regulatory mutants resistant to 2-amino-3-chlorobutyrate, 2-aminobutyrate and norleucine. All resistant strains were found to have a strongly increased content of even iso-branched fatty acids. This change was also reflected in a relative increase of monensin A production, which is affected by branched amino acids.
