The paper comprises a description of new instruments, including one designed to give a continuous record during a voyage; together with an account of their trial upon S. S. Anchises and S. S. Nestor upon the Cape route between Great Britain and Australia in 1922–1923; comprising also accounts of certain problems arising from the main research, such as that of temperature regulation on board ship, the amplification of small currents, the accuracy of a mercury platinum contact, etc.
