Notes:
It often occurs that, when dopant ions are introduced into solid matrices, the majority of ions go into a particular site (the main sties) while a small fraction go into sites with other symmetries (subsites). A new model for the decay of excited ions present in both main sites and subsites in crystal matrices is presented. Data from chromium–neodymium doped yttrium aluminum perovskite is analyzed to illustrate this model. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.
