Summary A survey on some observations concerning steam fog on rivers not covered with ice is given. Variables supposed to control the formation of such a fog are the temperature difference between warm water and cold air, the stability of surrounding air, and the wind. A narrow zone along the banks only is exposed to steam fog and its consequences such as hard rime.
Abstract:
Résumé L'auteur rapporte ici un ensemble d'observations faites sur les brouillards qui se forment, par temps froid, au-dessus de rivières régularisées et non recouvertes de glace. La formation de tels brouillards est déterminée par la différence de température entre l'eau (chaude) et l'air (froid), par la stabilité de l'air ambiant et par le vent. Seule une étroite bande de terre en bordure des rivières est affectée par de tels brouillards et en subit les conséquences comme, par example, un dépôt de givre.

Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Übersicht über Beobachtungen an Frostrauch auf eisfreien, regulierten Flüssen gegeben. Entscheidend für die Entstehung von Frostrauch scheinen zu sein: Die Temperaturdifferenz zwischen warmem Wasser und kalter Luft, die Stabilität der umgebenden Luft, sowie der Wind. Lediglich ein schmaler Ufersaum ist Frostrauch und Folgeerscheinungen wie Rauhfrost ausgesetzt.
