Abstract About 20 species of zooplankters (copepods, mysids, euphausiids, sergestids, and Scyphomedusae) are commercially fished and utilised as food or feed today. The annual world catch of crustacean zooplankton is probably a little less than 210,000 tons and accounts for 11% of the total crustacean catch in the world. The present status of plankton harvesting in various parts of the world is described. Problems in development of plankton fisheries are discussed.
