Abstract The oxidation of cleavage faces of high purity tellurium crystals exposed to air under ambient conditions has been investigated by electron microscopy. The morphology of the oxidized surface is described. Oxidation is found to be inhomogeneous, and its extent has been related to the structure of the surface exposed by the cleavage.
