Abstract We report AAT observations of two southern AM Herculis variables, H0139-68 and E1405-451. H0139-68 was found to be in an unusually faint state (V≳17), and this has permitted the first measurement of the magnetic field of the white dwarf,B p∼3×107 G. Linear polarimetry of E1405-451 has revealed a substantial position angle variation with phase, corresponding to an orbital inclination of ∼60° and a colatitude of ∼20° for the magnetic pole of the white dwarf.
