The introduction summarizes the generalized knowledge obtained from results in the development of thermotropic liquid-crystalline main chain polymers (TLCP) in the world. Subsequently, the present state of commercialization, the compound formation, and a comparison of the TLCP with other high-performance polymer materials and some nonferrous metals are described. The second part deals with the concept of the provided developments and their proof, and with experimental results in the synthesis of poly(ethylene terephthalate)-p-hydroxy benzoic acid copolyesters (PETP/p-HBA) and fully aromatic copolyesters basing on p-HBA/isophthalic acid/hydroquinone. The goals for further investigations are discussed briefly.

Einleitend werden die aus den bisherigen internationalen Ergebnissen bei der Entwicklung thermotroper flüssigkristalliner Hauptkettenpolymere (TLCP) resultierenden und verallgemeinerten Erkenntnisse zusammengefaßt. Anschließend werden der gegenwärtige Stand der Kommerzialisierung, die Legierungsbildung und ein Vergleich der TLCP mit anderen Hochleistungspolymerwerkstoffen und einigen Buntmetallen beschrieben. Im zweiten Teil wird das Konzept der vorgesehenen Entwicklungen begründet und experimentelle Ergebnisse bei der Synthese der Poly(ethylenterephthalat)/p-Hydroxybenzoesäure-Copolyester (PETP/p-HBA) und vollaromatischer Copolyester auf der Basis von p-HBA/Resorcinol/Terephthalsäure und p-HBA/Isophthalsäure/Hydrochinon vorgestellt. Die Zielrichtungen für weiterführende Untersuchungen werden kurz diskutiert.
