Compound Formation in MO:M2O3 Systems. A New Type of BaFe2O4 with Stuffed Tridymite StructureSolid state reactions by using a flux lead to the new compound BaFe2O4-(II). Single crystal X-ray determination founds an orthorhombic unit cell with a = 17.3470(39), b = 9.3358(24), c = 10.8818(19) Å (space group D2h16-Pmcn, Z = 16). BaFe2O4-(II) is a member of the stuffed tridymites with the FeO4-tetrahedra-linkage AABBAB. The relation to the earlier form of BaFe2O4 and other tridymite compounds will be discussed.

Mit einer Feststoffreaktion in Gegenwart von Schmelzmitteln gelang die Synthese eines neuen BaFe2O4-(II). Einkristallröntgendaten ergeben orthorhombische Symmetrie mit a = 17,3470(39), b = 9,3358(24), c = 10,8818(19) Å, Raumgruppe D2h16-Pmcn, Z = 16. BaFe2O4-(II) gehört zu den aufgefüllten Tridymiten mit einer Verknüpfung der FeO4-Tetraeder AABBAB. Die Verwandtschaft dieser Verbindung zu einer anderen Form von BaFe2O4 und weiteren Tridymitvarianten wird diskutiert.
