Peroxomonoselenic acid, H2SeO5, may be prepared in equilibria with hydrogenperoxide and selenic acid from H2O2 and SeO3, H2O2 and H2SeO4 or Na2O2 and H2SeO4. The pure compound (thermally stable only below 0°) is synthesized by perhydrolysis of chloroselenic acid with 100% hydrogen peroxide. In slightly acid medium bromide and iodide are immediately oxydized by peroxomonoselenic acid.

Im Gleichgewicht mit Wasserstoffperoxid und Selensäure kann Peroxomonoselensäure H2SeO5 aus H2O2 und SeO3, H2O2 und H2SeO4 bzw. Na2O2 und H2SeO4 dargestellt werden. In Substanz (nur bis etwa 0° thermisch beständig) ist sie durch Perhydrolyse von Chloroselensäure mit 100proz. H2O2 zugänglich. Sie oxydiert in schwach saurer wäßriger Lösung im Gegensatz zu H2O2 Bromid und Jodid sofort zu den freien Halogenen.
