By subjection to discharges from an induction coil, mixtures of xenon and fluorine yield xenon difluoride, XeF2 condensing on a cool finger (-78° C). XeF2 is colourless, has a characteristically nauseating odor, shows birefringence and is diamagnetic and sublimes without decomposition.

Durch Einwirkung elektrischer Funkenentladungen auf Gemische von Xenon und Fluor bildet sich Xenondifluorid, XeF2, das sich an einem Kühlfinger (-78° C) kristallin abscheidet. XeF2 ist farblos, riecht eigentümlich dumpf, zeigt Doppelbrechung und ist diamaguetisch. Es ist bei Zimmertemperatur recht beständig und sublimiert unzersetzt.
