The presence of Ca2+ has a marked effect on the reaction kinetics of platinum phosphonate complexes with d(GpG). Compounds studied are [cis-Pt(NH3)2(bmpaa)] and [Pt(R,S-dach)(ntmp)]. The formation of GG-N7,N7 chelates and the release of the phosphonate ligand as observed by NMR is significantly accelerated by the presence of Ca2+, which is ascribed to its interaction with the phosphato groups in the ligands.
