Chemistry of Thermally and Photochemically Generated Cyclobutan- and CyclobutenylidenesEHT- and MINDO/3-calculations of endo- and exocyclic 4-membered ring carbenes with 4π (1), 6π (2 and 6), and 8π (8) electrons are presented. Flash thermolysis and photolysis of suitable precursors yield 18 intramoleculary. Intermolecular reactions afford 15, 19, and 20. Multiplicities of carbenes 1, 2, 6, and 8, are discussed.

EHT- und MINDO/3-Rechnungen an endo- und exocyclischen Vierringcarbenen mit 4π (1), 6π (2 und 6) und 8π (8) Elektronen werden vorgestellt. Blitzthermolysen und Photolysen der entsprechenden Carbenvorläufer führen zu den intramolekularen Reaktionsprodukten 18. Intermolekulare Reaktionen liefern 15, 19, 20. Entsprechende Multiplizitäten von 1, 2, 6 und 8 werden erörtert.
